With you being from the UK, how did you decide to tattoo Oriental style?

Are there any artist in specific that you wanna refer to as a source of inspiration for the kind of work that you do?

I just drew designs and tattooed in a style that felt natural to me. Is your work influenced by music? What kind of music you identify with? My work isn’t really directly influenced by music, but the music I listen to whilst I work is very important to me. Whilst I tattoo I mainly listen to instrumental music, like ‘this will destroy you’ & ‘if these trees could talk’. Is there any kind of work that you refuse to do? Why? Portraits - they stress me out! There are so many amazing portrait artists out there, I don’t need to stress myself out over it anymore. What is your ultimate goal as an artist? To do freehand large-scale work!

Before you know you would become a talented artist, did you have any idea of what would be the ideal job for you? I thought I was going to be a truck driver!! Not a dream job but that’s what I thought I’d end up doing all my life! I also liked the idea of being a brick-layer! I didn’t realise what I truly enjoyed in life until I was about 18. Do you have any advice you wanna pass on to the people who are now entering the world of tattoo? If you’re not going to be lucky, be clever! You’ve got to find your own style or you’ll never stand out from the crowd.

When and how did you first come in to contact with the world of tattooing? Well, as a kid I always loved people who dared to be different, to be themselves! I always watched them closely! It embarrassed my mom most of the time. But i stared in admiration! I loved tattoos already! Then when i was 18, on my bday i got a tattoo! I skipped school for this! Haha! Looked online for a neardy artist! I found one and also a design so i webt and i just got a tribal tattoo on my lower back, tramp stamp haha:) i got two lil’ more later to make it a bit bigger and after a while i realized it wasnt me! I prefer meaningful, color , cute tattoos! So i went online and looked for more info, my friend introduced me to Jean Harai, he became my tattoo artist! He did most of my tattoos! Love his style! What was your first tattoo? Who was the artist? As i said the ‘trampstamp’ at age 18 (seems like ages ago haha) by dragon tattoo in Bruges Belgium! I think his name was Remco! At that age i didnt really think about a tattoo design! Just looked one up online i liked, thats it! Since that i have changed! I wanted my body to be my journal, my life story! How did your taste and quality in tattoos progress? Is there a notable difference between how you started out and where your body-art is now? The tribal start... Rheb Jean Harai, he tattooed me for years! After that i decided to get stuff done by other artists as well who have similar style! Colorful ladylike cute tattoos! I also chose for a few portraits ! I love it when people ask me the funniest questions! Does your hair still grow out of ur tattoos? (Like on your arm) Do tattoos keep you warm? ( they think that tattoos warm up ur body haha i wish) what will you do when you get old ( be an awesome granny) one lady asked me if my mom cries a lot , i asked why she’s asking me this! She said ‘ you were so pretty but the tattoos ruined your beauty! Your mom must be sad and disappointed’ (what??:) when i go to a fun park i feel like one of the rides! Haha people stare, want to take pictures with me! ahha! Drives my friends crazy!

I love all hard music! Hardcore, metal , punk, classic rock, hard rock!! If it got great guitar sounds i like it:) haha! I must admit i also like other genres! Im very open minded but rock is my favourite! Im really into Bring Me The Horizon! New album is great!! Roadtrip tunes!!!

What are your musical preferences?

Are there any bands you like but you haven’t seen yet?

Rancid!! They are playing Groezrock so i am all stoked!!! Cant wait! Also Bring Me The Horizon! Seeing them with my friend Jay Raw in April! Do you have any new tattoos or tattoo projects on the horizon? If yes, what kind? Yes i want to get a portrait of Brutus, the lion i adopted in south africa! My baby;) i am lasering a part now to make space! That one isnt that important and i really wanna get Brutus tattooed on me! So yeah! Dermalaser is doing this in Kappellen! Always was afraid to get lasered but Frederic is great and his machine even better! So happy! We are touched to know that you did volunteer work for a lion and tiger refuge, we are even more moved by the fact that you adopted a lion! Please tell us how that was and how this came to be? I’ve always loved lions and tigers! Cats in general! Been brought up with cats! Im a real cat lady:) I dreamed about going to south africa for years! Had a big depression in December 2014 so i decided to go to South Africa and just get away! I didnt just want to hang out, wanted to make a difference! So decided to work with lions . It was amazing!! Best ‘holiday’ ever! I worked at Drakenstein Lion Park! Its not just a lion park,. Its a sanctuary! They rescue lions from all over the world! So proud that i worked there! The animals are rescued from abusive situations! I remember seeing Brutus in 2010! He was brutally beaten, which ended in a crooked mouth,

they declawed him etc! So sad! I saw he got rescued and brought to Drakenstein!! I was so happy to see him there ! Even cried a little! This story really hit me hard so i decided to adopt him. I cant wait to go back and work there again and see how happy Brutus is now! Safe and sound!! If i was rich i would adopt them all! I am a huge animal lover! Wish i could save all of them!! When i get old i wanna go to south africa and have my own lionpark! Just at ease in nature, while helping lions! My dream! Must make it happen. Are there any note-worthy tattooers and shops that you would like to have mentioned? Oh yeah, my friend Djoels , she works at her own shop Djoels Ink in Deinze! She does amazing portraits! She never fails to impress me! Also Danny Edwards! He works at Cult XIII Tattoo, great artist as well, also portraits/ realism! I especially love his horror ink.

Painter / illustrator When did you discovered your artistic talent?

At a very young age, I can say! Not that i knew that I was an artist, (even don’t think about it that way now) but I understood that people appreciate my talent and I noticed that I was very good at drawing. I used to copy artwork that I saw in illustrated “kinderbücher” when I was about 4/5 years old, later I tried to accomplish the same using movie covers from my VHS tapes. When I was about 8 (I think) I began to paint with cheap watercolors. I always had a good feedback from my mother that motivated me to go on.

Is there anyone in your family who also share their talent or who also have artistic talent? My mother always says that my uncle (her brother) had some drawing skills, but he didn’t pursuit any artistic career, so I can’t think about anybody else. Tells us a little about your work and your greatest source of inspiration. My style goes mostly between Pop Surrealism and a little mix of renaissance realism. I change physical features like the size of the head and sometimes the eyes of my characters, even if I use some photographic reference, giving them a kind of dollish look. Introducing some elements of pop culture (like UFO’s) takes the viewer to a strange atmosphere and reveals part of the story I’m creating. There’s always a melancholic, sad feeling on my paintings, even if the figure has a strange enigmatic smile. Having Salvador Dalí as a great influence in my young age, it would be obvious that I go trying some surrealism in my development. Most of my inspiration comes from Pop Culture. The movies and TVshows from the 80’s, like Star Trek and The Twilight Zone are always part of my work (even if they’re not easy to spot, they are). My inspiration comes from many things, sometimes as “simple” as nature or science, but mostly from human relation, feelings, thoughts and fears. Are there any artists that you want to refer as an influence? There’re many, some of them I even don’t remember well, but in some way, they left an idea that I transform in my own way. But to mention some of them: Salvador Dalí, Bosh, TravellInk Mag | 1º Edition

Mark Ryden, Jeff Soto are just a few. I Also feel that writers like Franz Kafka, Dostoevsky and Stephen King, or Illustration Artists and graphic Designers like Dave Mckean and Vaughan Oliver have a crucial influence in my Art work. Do you remember the work that gave you more pleasure to do? That’s a hard question… Because I don’t feel much pleasure while I’m painting, especially my best pieces are a little storm of feelings. I think that pleasure comes after it, when I see my painting again, some days after I finished it. To get back to the question, I can’t really tell… Are you aware of any work of yours that has been transformed into a tattoo? Not, till now! At least that I’m aware of it!

Best experience you had as an artist? In one of the shows, there was a guy that told me, that he was a really big fan and that he would love to buy a painting, but he had to earn some money for it, but that he would sooner or later. That was great and made my day! Do you have some musical inspiration in the creation process? Sometimes yes, other times not really! What I mean is that I like to hear music when I’m painting, it inspires me, gives me some rhythm that I work whit. I like a lot of different styles of music. There’re times when I need something really classic, like Mozart or Beethoven, others that I prefer some Rock, Metal… I usually listen to Tori Amos, Pixies, 80’s music. Some other moments I just prefer Silence (especially in those parts where I need some concentration)

Hoya Roc Please tell us a little bit about how your introduction to music went?

What was your first tattoo? And how was that experience for you?

I grew up in New York City, so we had a lot of different kinds of music, first it was hip-hop music and my brother was into hard-core and metal so eventually I did to.

My first tattoo was when I was 17 . Tattoos were still illegal in New York City, so i went to a guys house who would do all our boys .

At what age did you find out Hardcore? I always heard it in my house from the age of 10 or so, but didn’t get into it till about 14. How was it for you to grow up in the underground scene?

Do you feel as if there is a special and/or strong bond between (hardcore) music and tattoos? There’s always been a strong connection with hard-core and tattoos. It was always rebels, misfits and just crazy people, so it was a perfect match.

What do you think of the current state of tattooing in your area? Do you feel like there are many mentionable artists and shops in your area? If yes, please tell us! Can you relate to what seems to be the current trend in tattooing? Tourtattoos. Yes, or no? There’s tattoos everywhere! Artists got really good years ago, they were a handful, but now I see masterpieces.. The one trend I don’t understand is kids getting their hands and face tattoos as their first tattoos. As we know, you are a person with lots of tattoos, you have any plans for any future tattoos? Would you care to share your upcoming ideas with us? I hate getting tattooed it hurts! ahahah Eventually this stuff I want to get, but not sure what mainly filling stuff, I like blackand-grey. Do you have any advice for young people wanting to get into tattooing? Any new people wanting to be artists, keep drawing, keep tattooing, keep it extra clean and never stop learning. Last but not least, do you have any tips or tricks for people just getting into hardcore and wanting to start a band? Theres no secret! Just love and live what you do. Practice a lot and never quit.

he convention consisted of three days entirely devoted to the Artform in its most ancient representation, but with a modern twist. The goal was to show that the tattoo world is not a taboo anymore, but a cross phenomenon suitable for everyone. Thanks to the evolution of techniques, styles and instruments many artists have transformed into tattooers, and many tattooers have transformed in true artists. And this convention showcased just that. The event was a meeting of art, culture and show in honor of the art of tattooing.

Among the guest stars of the 21st edition there were many people that are most certainly not unknown to the general tattoo enthusiast. Tattoo Model Monami Frost, rappers such as Emis Killa and Gue Pequeno, chef Alessandro Borghese were all present to ensure a great time. But these were not the only well-known people to attend the festivities as the gorgeous Italian Suicide Girls Riae, Eden Von Hell and Ultima Suicide presented the “Mister Tattoo Milan” pageant: the first competition for tattooed boys next to the widely-known Miss Milan Tattoo pageant. Killer Kiccen Production which is a factory on the Navigli with the artistic direction of Beppe Treccia Iavicoli, presented a show with 8 artists of international fame recognized for their techniques and performance that have characterized them for years. The artists that were present were Mr. Wany, Mario Leuci, Max Petrone, Angelo Barile, Agiuseppe Gep Caserta, Korvo, Eva Di Martino with Particular attention to NoCurve. The artists who uses scotch tape to create extraordinary artworks, giving birth to an futuristic imaginary made of broken lines and corners who inspired the futuristic graphics and digital world. He had been chosen by the English rock band Skunk Anansie in order to realize the cover for their new album “Anarchytecture” which is coming out in 2016. Not only tattoos and tattoo-related artwork were given full attention, but also famous streetwear manufacturer Vans presented VANS INK ART: the first Slip-On show in TravellInk Mag | 1º Edition

the whole world. This show exposed the Vans Slip-On model tattooed by 10 different artists of international fame â&#x20AC;&#x201C; Roman Abrego, Andres Acosta, Michele Agostini, Joe Capobianco, Myke Chambers, Victor Chil, Yomico Moreno, Fabio Onorini, Sasha Unisex, Norm Will Rise. The Milano Tattoo Convention proved once more to be the ultimate event for any one seeking great art, inspiration and exciting shows in the world of (modern) tattooing.

We made a few questions to the four responsible for Glory Bound Tattoo Parlor and ... Well, this is the result.

How did you decide to become tattoo artists? Marc: I started tattooing back in 2006, till then i was an industrial designer and i had a side project in which i was drawing some shirt prints. At certain point in my life i got really disappointed cause i was not being artistically fulfill, so i’ve quitted all, and i was lucky to find an apprenticeship, with Mitzu (helsink), my good friend and excellent artist. Almeida: Since i can recall i always drew. At 26/27years old i met marcos that shared what he knew about tattooing with me, and we ended up opening Glorybound. Luis: I didn’t decided to become a tattooer actually, I always liked to draw and i saw on tattooing a way of expressing myself using the body and other peoples ideas. Just after getting 2 tattoos I started feeling the will of getting into tattooing. Sweet:I always loved to piss my parents off, so working in a place where i ruin Gods perfect work, seemed the logical next step.

How did you guys met? M: I met Almeida while i was graffitiing a shop for a mutual friend, and got along pretty good after the first few beers. L: He was a customer that kinda never got out of the shop...so he is like furniture i guess. S: He’s a local dead beat that i know for years and years, he is kind of my lil’ brother, more my “mini me” but when the experience goes terribly wrong.....We are just keeping him off the streets. What work you guys had before you open your shop? M: I did a bit of everything, but before e start tattooing i was an industrial designer at a sports company A: I was listening to angry people at a call center L: I was studying and helping out my parents at their restaurant S: I was making some bucks posing naked in a crackhouse in Detroit (Ahah) TravellInk Mag | 1º Edition

What do you guys have in common that led you to join toguether?

What is your goal with regard to personal fulfillment and for the studio?

M: I should say that what joined us was the love for tattooing, and it is also, but honestly, what we have in common its an uncommon thirst for alcoholic beverages and a gigantic will to party hard

M: The goal is the same since day one, Do our work the best we can, in a way we can grow artistically and the person who gets the tattoo goes out happy and remains happy years from now with a solid, crisp bright long lasting tattoo

Who is the most frisky of the crew? M: I would have to point Andrew faking sweet, its the only thing he outcome his master... ME The biggest difficulty that you guys found in your path? M: I think we all share the same difficulties. The need overcome ourselves, the “fight” against artistically close minded people with all the tumblr/pintrest crappy references.

There are some curious or funny story that has happene with any customer or fellow tattoo artists?

M: Well our radio it’s very eclectic, we go from country to skinhead reagee, from northern soul to hardcore, from 70’s rock n roll to folk, from rockabilly to stoner, from ska to the hits from the 80/90s, just depends on the mood. We just dont listen to techno and all that electronic stuff... Must of us were raised on punk rock and thats what goes on our veins. So that’s obviously what goes on the everyday playlist.
