We head downtown and explore the center of Lima and its impressive sights. As we wander through the Plaza de Armas and Plaza San Martin,itishardnottobeintriguedbyitsdiverse architecture.Ourguidewillintroduceyoutothe city's architectural heritage before heading to SantoDomingoMonasterythatboaststheoldest carvedchoirstallsinLima.Itwasherethatfirst university in South America, San Marcos University,wasfoundedin1551.Headto‘Casa Aliaga’, the oldest colonial house in Latin America,whichisownedbytheAliagafamilyand theirdescendants.FranciscoPizarrograntedthis ancienttempletooneofhisfollowersJeronimode Aliagain1535.Itfeaturesaseriesofsalonsthat representlifeinLimainthe16th,17th,and18th centuries.

The Incas created huge circular agricultural terraces at Moray, built inside sink holes on a limestone plateau overlooking the UrubambaValley.Ithasbeensuggestedthatthey haveacosmologicalmeaning,buttheirfunction otherthanasanexperimentinagricultureremains a mystery. We visit the famed cathedralwithitsmagnificentlycarvedwoodwork, ornatealtarandmanyhundredsofcanvasesfrom the 17th century Cusco Painting School. We continuetoSacsayhuaman,aspectacularhilltop fortress that overlooks the city of Cusco. The largeststonesusedinitsconstructionarenearly 8.5mhighandweigh360tons,fittingsoperfectly togetherthatasinglepieceofpaperwouldnotfit betweenthetwostones.
