Arange of hotels will open their doors to travellers to South Australia in the next four years, from luxury global brands such as Sofitel and Sheraton, to mid-range brands like Holiday Inn Express. Later this year, Holiday Inn Express will open in Adelaide, and 2018 will see a new Sofitel Hotel and Atura Adelaide Airport Hotel. In 2019, a Sheraton and Langham Place are due to open, and Adelaide’s first sixstar luxury hotel at SkyCity Adelaide Casino will open in 2020.

NEW RESORT FOR KANGAROO ISLAND
A multimillion-dollar luxury tourist resort on Kangaroo Island has been granted planning approval by the South Australian Government. The resort will be built at the north-coast township of American River overlooking the ocean. It will have 323 rooms spread across a four-storey hotel, 10 seven-storey accommodation lodges, 20 cottages and 20 cabins. Facilities include a conference room for 400 people, restaurant and bar, a cooking school and kitchen garden, and a 2km (1.2mi) pedestrian loop.
NEW FIVE-STAR LANGHAM PLACE AT GLENELG
A new $110 million luxury hotel will be built in Glenelg. The new 12-storey, five-star waterfront development, called Langham Place is expected to be completed by mid-2019 and will be the first hotel managed by the international Langham Hotel Group in South Australia.

China Southern Airlines
This last year has been a big year for South Australia in the aviation industry. China Southern began direct flights into Adelaide from Guangzhou in December 2016, code sharing with Qantas for easy domestic connections within Australia. They are operating three direct flights a week on an A330 aircraft. The airline has connected Adelaide to Europe, North America as well as Japan and India, and is the third largest airline in the world by passenger numbers. On 30 June 2017, Fiji Airways will commence direct flights between Nadi and Adelaide. This twice-weekly service further opens up the options for North American visitors wishing to extend their southern hemisphere holiday. From 6 July 2017, Cathay Pacific will also increase the number of its flights on the Hong Kong to Adelaide route. The fifth weekly service increases Cathay Pacific’s capacity on the route by 25 per cent.
ADELAIDE AIRPORT EXPANSION
Adelaide Airport has the go-ahead to begin work on a major terminal expansion, an office complex and a 250-room hotel. The expansion of the current terminal, which is operating at capacity with the increase in direct airline access and increased domestic flights is in advanced stages of design.
KANGAROO ISLAND AIRPORT EXPANSION
Design work has commenced on the $18m upgrade to the Kangaroo Island Airport expansion project. The work has been broken up into five main elements to ensure best efficiency and minimal disruption to travellers. The airport runway and terminal are on track to be completed by December 2017.
MOUNT GAMBIER AIRPORT UPGRADE
The Mount Gambier Airport in the state’s south will receive a major upgrade to allow larger aircraft to land in the regional area, opening up the Limestone Coast region. The airport has received $4m funding towards the project which will enable the region to welcome more visitors flying in from the east coast states.
