he Caribbean tourism industry will have an excellent opportunity at the World Travel Market in London, where it plans to demonstrate the restoration successes it has achieved in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.

La industria turística del Caribe tendrá una excelente oportunidad en la World Travel Market de Londres, donde planea demostrar sus éxitos en la restauración que ha logrado tras la pandemia de Covid-19.

Un buen ejemplo de los avances en ese complejo objetivo lo llevará a esa cita mundial la Junta de Turismo de Jamaica, que logró ya el año pasado que esa isla fuera declarada como «Destino de bodas líder en el mundo» por segundo año consecutivo en los World Travel Awards que entrega la cita de Londres.

También ganó el «Destino Líder del Caribe» por 16º año consecutivo y el «Mejor destino de naturaleza del Caribe», entre otros.

Jamaica, que tuvo su reapertura turística temprano, en junio de 2020, ha recibido desde entonces unos 5 millones 173 mil visitantes, que incluyen llegadas de tránsito y pasajeros de cruceros.

El ejemplo no opaca, sino que hace más brillante otros éxitos caribeños dirigidos a vencer la Covid-19 en 2022.

Expertos aseguran que las más de 7.000 islas de la región aún son en conjunto los destinos naturales más encantadores del mundo.

Todos ellos, por pequeños que puedan ser, están bien representados por sus culturas, playas y paisajes diversos.

Durante el año en curso, República Dominicana, Cuba, Bahamas, Puerto Rico y Aruba se han destacado pese a los vientos en contra, como los resurgimientos de

modalidades del coronavirus y las secuelas del conflicto bélico entre Rusia y Ucrania.

Los dominicanos ofrecieron nuevamente este 2022 lugares excelentes en La Romana y Bayahibe, a solo un centenar de kilómetros de Santo Domingo, y en Punta Cana, un destino turístico de excelencia en América Latina.

Cuba ha logrado mantener una restauración turística contra vientos y mareas.

Espera más de dos millones de turistas este año, lo que podría significar una excelente base para un 2023 impetuoso. ¿Qué puede esperarse entonces para 2023?

Pues uno de los más recientes resultados del Barómetro del Turismo Mundial de la OMT subrayó que el sector experimentó un fuerte repunte en el primer semestre de 2022, con casi 250 millones de llegadas internacionales registradas.

La cifra indica que la industria mundial del ocio ha recuperado en ese lapso casi la mitad (46%) del nivel anterior a la pandemia de 2019. Y los pronósticos muestran que ello significa que 2023 será un año próspero para esta crucial rama.

Desde Jamaica, el ministro del Turismo Edmund Bartlett vaticinó que la isla tiene grandes expectativas para el turismo en el año próximo.

«Según la trayectoria, tenemos todas las razones para creer que 2023 será un año increíble para el turismo.

Nos hemos recuperado más rápido de lo que nadie podría haber imaginado», afirmó.

En cuanto a Cuba, autoridades de ese país dijeron que el lapso anual próximo será el de una completa recuperación de la industria del ocio. Incluso, un vaticinio local va mas allá y pronostica que el turismo cubano podría llegar a atender a 5 millones de clientes en 2023.

Por su parte, República Dominicana espera acercarse o superar los 10 millones de arribos el año próximo. ¡Enhorabuena para todo el Caribe!

brilliant. Experts say that the more than 7,000 islands in the region are still as a whole the most enchanting natural destinations in the world. All of them, however small they may be, are well represented by their diverse cultures, beaches and landscapes.

During the current year, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Bahamas, Puerto Rico and Aruba have stood out despite headwinds, such as the resurgence of forms of the coronavirus and the aftermath of the Russia-Ukraine war.

The Dominicans again offered this 2022 excellent places in La Romana and Bayahibe, just a hundred kilometers from Santo Domingo, and in Punta Cana, a tourist destination of excellence in Latin America.

Cuba has managed to maintain a tourist restoration against all odds. It expects more than two million tourists this year, which could mean an excellent base for an impetuous 2023.

SO WHAT CAN BE EXPECTED FOR 2023?

Well, one of the most recent results of the UNWTO World Tourism Barometer highlighted that the sector experienced a strong rebound in the first half of 2022, with almost 250 million registered international arrivals.

The figure indicates that the global leisure industry has recovered in that period almost half (46%) the level before the 2019 pandemic. And forecasts show that this means that 2023 will be a prosperous year for this crucial sector.

From Jamaica, Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett predicted that the island has great expectations for tourism in the coming year. “Based on the track record, we have reasons to believe that 2023 will be an amazing year for tourism. We have recovered faster than anyone could have imagined,” he said.

As for Cuba, authorities from that country said that the next annual period will see a complete recovery of the leisure industry. Even a local prediction goes further and predicts that Cuban tourism could serve 5 million customers in 2023.

For its part, the Dominican Republic hopes to approach or exceed 10 million arrivals next year.

Steps towards a responsible tourism

PASOS HACIA UN TURISMO RESPONSABLE LOS DESPLAZAMIENTOS de millones de personas alrededor del mundo, y la inconsciencia de muchas de ellas, dejando desperdicios allá donde van, está repercutiendo negativamente en esa actividad tan antigua como la propia humanidad: viajar. Sin embargo, en los últimos años el turismo sostenible ha ganado terreno y ha propiciado una mayor conciencia colectiva sobre la necesidad de preservar el ecosistema. De hecho, cada vez los viajeros reparan más en la huella ecológica que dejan sus vacaciones.

En este sentido, contemplar un medio de transporte limpio para desplazarse a un destino y para moverse durante la estancia, con reducidas o nulas emisiones contaminantes, es una práctica que gana seguidores.

Por otra parte, preferir locaciones verdes al momento de seleccionar el hospedaje está tomando auge; así como la indagación previa sobre las características y esfuerzos en temas ambientales de dicho alojamiento: si apoya la eliminación de envases plásticos de un solo uso, si se abastece de energía limpia o si colabora en la protección de especies nativas.

Apoyar a productores locales se ha convertido también en otra forma apoyar el turismo responsable. Comprar bienes y servicios de negocios locales beneficia el desarrollo económico de la comunidad, permite al viajero deleitarse con alimentos frescos y también es una ventaja para el entorno, pues las distancias cortas en la entrega de los productos generan un impacto medioambiental mucho menor.

Pero otra forma de honrar un destino es evitar la extracción de sus especies. Un turista responsable y amigable con el ambiente prefiere recordar un sitio por la experiencia disfrutada o a través de una artesanía local; sin necesidad de adquirir conchas, plantas o animales. Enseñar a recordar a través de lo vivido es también una de las claves del éxito en ese tránsito hacia un turismo responsable global.

However, in recent years sustainable tourism has gained ground and has led to greater collective awareness of the need to preserve the ecosystem. In fact, travelers are increasingly aware of the ecological footprint left by their vacations.

In this sense, contemplating a clean means of transport to travel to a destination and to move around during the stay, with reduced or zero polluting emissions, is a practice that is gaining followers.

On the other hand, preferring green locations when selecting lodging is enjoying a boom; as well as the prior investigation on the characteristics and efforts in environmental issues of said accommodation: if it supports the elimination of single-use plastic containers, if it is supplied with clean energy or if it collaborates in the protection of native species.

Supporting local producers has also become another way to support responsible tourism. Buying goods and services from local businesses benefits the economic development of the community, allows the traveler to enjoy fresh food and is also an advantage for the environment, since the short distances in the delivery of products generate a much smaller environmental impact.

But another way to honor a destination is to avoid the extraction of its species. A responsible and environmentally friendly tourist prefers to remember a place for the experience enjoyed or through a local craft, without the need to acquire shells, plants or animals. Teaching to remember through what has been lived is also one of the keys to success in this transition towards global responsible tourism.

Space tourism, for the first T

he opportunities surrounding space travel will be analyzed as part of the 43rd edition of the World Travel Market (WTM) London in the new Future Stage. Will Whitehorn, chairman of UKspace, the space trade association, will explore whether widespread space tourism is really feasible, what it might look like in the coming decades, and the opportunities for the travel and tourism industry.

“We are honored to have a pioneer like Will join us,” said WTM London Exhibitions Director Juliette Losardo, and she added that “for a long time, space tourism has been a futuristic dream and now it is becoming a reality, although only for a handful of travelers; but of course, air travel was once viewed in a similar light.”

The UBS financial services company has estimated that

the space travel market will be worth $4 billion by 2030, despite setbacks like the pandemic.

In August 2022, Blue Origin successfully completed its sixth manned spaceflight, featuring a YouTube star, a businessman, a mountaineer, a technology leader, an engineer and a telecommunications executive.

However, Virgin Galactic announced that the launch of its commercial passenger service would be delayed again, this time until the second quarter of 2023. The company signed an agreement in July to allow members of the Virtuoso luxury agent network to sell Virgin Galactic’s spaceflights, though with seats selling at the standard price of $450,000, the astronomical costs are out of reach for most tourists.

In the nascent space tourism launched by the United States and other countries there is a coincidence: it is a millionaire venture not only because of the distances to be traveled, but also because of the cost of a seat. Such millionaire proportions somewhat hide something fundamental: are these pleasure trips really safe?

All the answers are now put to the test, as these voyages already begin for the time being with a trajectory like throwing a stone into the sky. They go and come back in no time.

But an aspiring space tourist will have to check his bank account first. And it’s no exaggeration to say that many will be grounded if they’re not

That reality does not change that this magical form of leisure is for recreational purposes in most cases. In fact, it has already been divided into several types: orbital, suborbital and lunar space tourism. So far, they are spectacular jumps out of the Earth’s atmosphere.

Space tourists book their tickets if there are enough spaceship funds to give them the chance to experience space for themselves, on trips of varying lengths. In suborbital spacecraft, for example, a space tourist might only have a few minutes in space with enough time to experience weightlessness and get a taste of space. Yet other travelers have booked tickets on orbital flights almost since the turn of the current century, to travel into space for hours or days at a time. And they are still waiting, because safety

is basic for this modality.

You don’t have to be a specialist to know that the risks are numerous. It will take decades for a space tourism trip to be equal in safety to a trip around the world through the world’s most turbulent seas.

Los turistas espaciales reservan sus boletos si hay fondos suficientes en naves espaciales para tener la oportunidad de experimentar el espacio por sí mismos, en viajes de diferentes duraciones. En las naves espaciales suborbitales, por ejemplo, un turista espacial podría tener solo unos minutos en el espacio con tiempo suficiente para experimentar la ingravidez y probar el espacio. Sin embargo, otros viajeros han reservado casi desde el inicio del siglo actual boletos en vuelos orbitales, para viajar al espacio durante horas o días en un momento. Y aún siguen esperando; pues la seguridad es básica para esta modalidad.

No es necesario ser un especialista para saber que los riesgos son numerosos. Aún pasarán décadas para que un viaje de turismo espacial se equipare en seguridad con una vuelta al mundo por los mares más turbulentos del mundo.

Adventure tourism, a modality that resurfaces

hen the world was about to stop due to the Covid-19 pandemic, adventure tourism was in fashion worldwide, a success of the international leisure industry that is resurfacing.

If the coronavirus and its closures, which seemed eternal, caused something it was nostalgia for the outdoors, without masks as limits.

In this regard, the Caribbean islands have much to offer in the current quest to restore the tourism industry against all odds.

The truth is that the adventurous entertainments are in the same place. That means, where was the fun when Covid-19 took over our time? Much of it in the Caribbean islands.

Specifically about adventure tourism, regional experts recommend walking. Nothing like walking tours of very exotic places that have two nondisposable peculiarities: they are always low cost and sometimes they don’t cost anything.

But there will be more pleasure if it is done with a skillful guide who knows not only the way but also the cultural and ancestral secrets of the place, including the traditional food that sometimes surprises us at the end of a river, near the sea, or right in the middle of a jungle Wild routes or not, they are already open and all of them also have their long-awaited oases.

Nothing offers more pleasure than a bath in a natural spring after a long and tiring hike.

By the way, in the Caribbean,

without stopping to walk or even swim, with a wave of the hand a tourist can order a cold and exuberant cocktail. Countries like Cuba have a great variety with lime juice such as the socalled daiquiris, with the best rum, sugar and powdered ice.

Another Caribbean queen are aquatic adventures. The boats, from the most modest to the most luxurious, already have their engines running. In that environment, underwater fishing, snorkeling, kayaking, diving and many more are offered, as well as natural aquatic grounds that can be explored and fabulous fishing spots.

By 2023, forecasts point to North America dominating the global adventure travel market. And this is great news for the Caribbean.

TURISMO DE AVENTURAS, UNA MODALIDAD QUE RESURGE Cuando el mundo estaba a punto de pararse por la pandemia del Covid-19, el turismo de aventura estaba de moda a nivel mundial, todo un éxito de la industria del ocio internacional que está resurgiendo; pues, si algo provocó el coronavirus y sus cierres, que parecieron eternos, fue la nostalgia por el aire libre, sin mascarillas como límites.

En este sentido, las islas del Caribe tienen mucho que ofrecer en la búsqueda actual para restaurar la industria del turismo contra viento y marea.

Específicamente sobre el turismo de aventura, los expertos regionales recomiendan caminar.

Nada como recorridos a pie por lugares muy exóticos que tienen dos peculiaridades no descartables: siempre son low cost y a veces no cuestan nada.

Pero habrá más placer si se hace con un guía hábil que conozca no solo el camino sino también los secretos culturales y ancestrales del lugar, incluida la comida tradicional que a veces nos sorprende al final de un río, cerca del mar, o justo en medio de una jungla.

In search of Canadian pandemic: flights and

C

anadians have been the main issuing market for tourists to Cuba for years.

In each of the years of the last decade, more than one million visitors from Canada arrived on the Caribbean island, for a total of more than 10 million.

The recovery of Cuba’s travel and tourism sector first passes through a recovery of those historical figures and continuing to increase their numbers; attacking the segments that can generate the most income and improving the occupancy of the newly built hotels.

This is endorsed by Canada’s position of rejecting the U.S. embargo, and its vote in favor of the Caribbean country at the UN and nothing indicates that it will be different soon. And most importantly, as our colleagues point out: “Canadian tourists like Cuba, they feel safer”1 and they enjoy an exceptional climate of sun and beach, a rich culture of great diversity, the unique expressiveness and hospitality of Cubans, residents and hotel workers.

LOS CANADIENSES son desde hace años el principal mercado emisor de turistas a Cuba. En cada uno de los años de la última década arribó más de un millón de visitantes de Canadá a la Isla caribeña, para un total superior a los 10 millones.

La recuperación del sector de viajes y turismo de la Mayor de las Antillas pasa primero por una recuperación de esas cifras históricas, y seguir aumentando sus números; atacando los segmentos que más ingresos puedan generar y mejorando la ocupación de los nuevos hoteles construidos.

Lo avala la postura de Canadá de rechazo al embargo de los EE.UU. que siempre ha votado en la ONU a favor del país caribeño y nada indica sea diferente próximamente. sol y playa, de una gran diversidad y rica cultura, con una expresividad y hospitalidad única de los cubanos, pobladores y trabajadores de los hoteles.

Tras el fin de las restricciones por la pandemia, los canadienses han vuelto a viajar a sus tres tradicionales grandes destinos: Estados Unidos, Caribe y Europa. De enero a agosto, más de un millón de turistas canadienses han visitado México y otro medio millón a República Dominicana.

Aunque desde la reapertura las autoridades y los empresarios cubanos se han esforzado con las habituales acciones, negociaciones y promociones en los diferentes mercados canadienses, aún los resultados son insuficientes.

Aunque Canadá retomó el liderazgo habitual, perdido frente a Rusia en 2021, las cifras hasta agosto no muestran se alcancen las metas de 1,2 millones de canadienses, ni los 2,5 millones de turistas en 2022.

Signos de mejora: Crece el transporte aéreo desde Canadá y otros mercados No obstante, hay signos de optimismo. La demanda aérea hacia Cuba —de acuerdo con los datos de búsqueda de Google— se ha duplicado en lo que va de 20222 , con Canadá en segundo orden de los interesados.

After the end of the restrictions due to the pandemic, Canadians are again traveling to their three traditional major destinations: the United States, the Caribbean and Europe. From January to August, more than a million Canadian tourists have visited Mexico and another half million the Dominican Republic.

Although since the reopening the Cuban authorities and businesspeople have made an effort with the usual actions, negotiations and promotions in the different Canadian markets, the results are still insufficient.

Although Canada resumed the usual leadership, lost to Russia in 2021, the figures up to August do not show that the goals of 1.2 million Canadians have been met, nor the 2.5 million tourists in 2022.

SIGNS OF IMPROVEMENT: GROWING AIR TRAVEL FROM CANADA AND OTHER MARKETS However, there are signs for optimism. The demand for air travel to Cuba —according to Google search data— has doubled so far in 2022,2 with Canada ranking second among interested parties.

CONTINUE PROMOTING THE DIGITAL OFFER OF SERVICES AND PRODUCTS Ninety-nine percent of the Canadian population has access to the Internet and the use of mobile devices in Canada is extremely popular. An eMarketer survey3 found that 90 percent of young Canadians are smartphone users, and it is estimated that about 90 percent of the population use social media at least once a month.

Although the country has not stopped and in particular has carried out actions to improve digitization and Internet access, it is necessary to increase the digital offer of accommodations and other attractions.

Facilitating payments for Canadian visitors, roaming for the use of their smartphones on the island, and interaction on websites and social media in English and French are actions that would increase revenue per tourist, which is still lower than in other Caribbean destinations.

Cuba has all the conditions to recover lost Canadian tourism and even grow in the next two years, thanks to its historic relations, its safe environment and proverbial hospitality and familiarity with visitors.

Una encuesta de eMarketer3 descubrió que el 90 por ciento de los jóvenes canadienses son usuarios de teléfonos inteligentes y se estima que alrededor del 90 por ciento de la población utiliza las redes sociales al menos una vez al mes.

Aunque el país no se ha detenido y en especial ha realizado acciones mejorando la digitalización y el acceso a Internet, hay que aumentar la oferta digital de alojamiento y demás atracciones.

Cuba tiene todas las condiciones para recuperar el turismo canadiense perdido e incluso crecer en los próximos dos años, gracias a su histórica relación, su ambiente de seguridad y proverbial hospitalidad y familiaridad con los visitantes.

Se prevé un gran impulso al crecimiento de operaciones en Cayo Largo del Sur, que estará a partir de noviembre operado enteramente por la cadena canadiense Blue Diamond, la cual se convertirá en la segunda cadena administradora en el país, con crecimiento importante también en La Habana. Es de esperar que Cayo Largo recupere el tradicional interés de los canadienses, cuyos aviones de gran porte podrán aterrizar en el aeropuerto internacional, que ha tenido una gran reparación tanto en la pista como la modernización de la terminal.

Sería positivo promover los destinos del oriente del país (Marea del Portillo, Covarrubias, Santa Lucía, etc.) de arraigo histórico entre los canadienses, incluso para estancias largas.

Se requiere reactivar el transporte por ómnibus para las excursiones y “overnights” a La Habana y Varadero, principales intereses de los visitantes canadienses. La renovación del parque de renta de autos realizada también es un factor positivo, así como el funcionamiento estable del Bus Tour en los destinos, y que sea efectivo el anuncio de los ómnibus de traslado (shuttles) hacia los hoteles en principales terminales aéreas.

Havana opens 2022-2023 tourist season with new hotel capacities

uring the recently concluded 4th Gaviota Destinations Tourist Exchange 2022, which had Havana as its venue, the next openings that will take place in the Cuban capital were announced; as well as the work carried out in order to improve the conditions and attractions of the Caribbean island’s most important cultural destination.

A tour of the Habaguanex Hotels facilities made it possible to obtain details of the capacities available in the historic center of the city and the renovation process carried out during the closure period caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. fter analyzing aspects such as Natural Wonders, Experience and Environment and Amenities, the British newspaper The Telegraph distinguished Cuba as the best destination to visit in the Caribbean, after making a comparison between the main nations in the area.

In the first category, each country was scored based on its number of bird species, national parks, World Heritage sites, award-winning beaches and world-leading dive sites; as well as the percentage of forests in each site, its highest point and its biodiversity. Regarding Experience and Environment, the destinations were evaluated according to their annual rainfall, hurricane threats, population density, sustainability efforts, homicide rate, among

other indicators. Lastly, the Amenities category awarded points for three criteria: number of five-star hotels per square mile, top-rated restaurants, and golf courses.

In addition, the popularity of each island on Instagram and its position in the last Telegraph Travel Awards, held in 2019, offered bonus points.

Thus, Cuba was crowned the winning Caribbean destination in the survey, with a total score of 651 points, which placed it in third place in the Natural Wonders category, in first place in Experience and Environment, and in 24th place in Amenities.

The review published in The Telegraph highlighted that the largest of the Caribbean islands has nine World Heritage sites, in ad-

«Esa baja ha sido recuperada con los mercados turísticos de los Estados Unidos, de Centro y Sudamérica, de manera que el flujo de visitantes sigue siendo extraordinario en este momento», puntualizó el líder turístico.

El propio secretario general de la Organización Mundial del Turismo, Zurab Pololikashvili, ha reconocido el buen abordaje de la República Dominicana en materia turística tras la pandemia, fruto de los esfuerzos del Gobierno y del trabajo de conjunto con el sector privado, lo que convirtió al destino en un referente a nivel global. Tras el mayor impacto en la historia de la aviación, considera la IATA, la industria del transporte aéreo emerge rápidamente de la pandemia y las restricciones de viaje impuestas en los últimos dos años.

IATA advises the Caribbean to lower air taxes to maintain tourism

he International Air Transport Association (IATA) has advised Caribbean destinations that “they run the risk of losing the world market for travel and tourism” due to the high air taxes applied, which makes plane tickets more expensive.

The region “needs to continue being an attractive tourist destination,” stressed IATA Vice President for the Americas Peter Cerdá during a conference on the occasion of Caribbean Aviation Day held in the Cayman Islands.

“We understand that there is a cost to providing adequate infrastructure for aviation, but very often it is difficult to see the correlation between the level of costs and taxes and the actual service provided,” he added.

The IATA vice president criticized that in some Caribbean destinations, if passengers do not arrive during “regular” local business hours, airlines are charged

significant fees for each passenger to enter through immigration and customs.

“This process is simply unacceptable and does not make sense, since those same passengers are the ones who stay in local hotels, eat in local restaurants and feed the local economies, regardless of what time they arrive,” Cerdá said.

In this context, he explained that taxes and fees added to airline tickets substantially increase the cost of air travel to and from the region.

“By way of comparison, worldwide taxes and fees account for approximately 15% of the price of the ticket and in the Caribbean the average is double, approximately 30% of the price of the ticket,” Cerdá remarked, adding that in some markets, taxes, fees and charges account for half of the total price of the ticket.

“Today’s passengers can choose (tourist destination) and, as the total cost of a holiday becomes more and more of a

decision factor, governments must be prudent and not put a price on the market,” he said.

In this sense, Cerdá recalled that the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) foresees a possible annual increase of 6.7% of the GDP of travel and tourism between 2022 and 2023 if the appropriate policies are applied.

IATA ACONSEJA AL CARIBE BAJAR TASAS AÉREAS PARA MANTENER TURISMO La Asociación Internacional de Transporte Aéreo (IATA) ha aconsejado a los destinos caribeños que «corren el riesgo de perder el mercado mundial de los viajes y el turismo» por las altas tasas aéreas aplicadas, lo que encarece los billetes de avión.

«Entendemos que la provisión de infraestructuras adecuadas para la aviación tiene un coste, pero muy a menudo es difícil ver la correlación entre el nivel de costes y tasas y el servicio real prestado», añadió.

El vicepresidente de la IATA criticó que en algunos destinos del Caribe, si los pasajeros no llegan durante el horario comercial local «regular», se les cobra a las aerolíneas importantes tasas para que cada pasajero entre por inmigración y aduanas.

«Este proceso es sencillamente inaceptable y no tiene sentido, ya que esos mismos pasajeros son los que se alojan en hoteles locales, comen en restaurantes locales y alimentan las economías locales, independientemente de la hora a la que lleguen», manifestó Cerdá.

En este contexto, explicó que los impuestos y tasas añadidos a los billetes de avión aumentan sustancialmente el coste de los viajes aéreos hacia y desde la región.

«A modo de comparación, a nivel mundial los impuestos y tasas suponen aproximadamente el 15 % del precio del billete y en el Caribe la media es el doble, aproximadamente el 30 % del precio del pasaje», remarcó Cerdá, añadiendo que en algunos mercados, los impuestos, tasas y cargos suponen la mitad del precio total del billete.

Como ejemplo, señaló que en los vuelos de Barbados a Barbuda, los impuestos y tasas representan el 56 % del precio del billete, y el 42 % de Bahamas a Jamaica, lo mismo que de Santa Lucía a Trinidad y Tobago.

«En comparación, de Lima a Cancún, otro destino turístico de costa, los impuestos y tasas sólo representan el 23 %», dijo Cerdá.

«Los pasajeros de hoy en día pueden elegir (destino turístico) y, a medida que el coste total de las vacaciones se convierte cada vez más en un factor de decisión, los gobiernos deben ser prudentes y no poner precio al mercado», sentenció.

En este sentido, Cerdá recordó que el Consejo Mundial de Viajes y Turismo (WTTC, por sus siglas en inglés) prevé un posible aumento anual del 6,7 % del PIB de viajes y turismo entre 2022 y 2023 si se aplican las políticas adecuadas.
