Newton Abbott is a quaint and picturesque historic railway town in the county of Devon. It is close enough to the sea to be a perfect water destination, while also being enough inland to find shelter for the sea winds. The city is home to gardens and lush greenery that are the backdrop to the town’s beautiful historical buildings and rich railway history. As a visitor, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the extensive history that comes together within the town . Hotels in Newton Abbot are known to be crisp and innovative modern designs, or conversely, housed inside a restored historical building.

For a day of adventure and fun, spend some time at the Newton Abbot Racecourse. This nationally revered racecourse has been home to some of the sport’s most popular jockeys and trainers. A day at the races is a great way to celebrate the local culture. Walk through Decoy Country Park to experience the lush green characteristics that surround Newton Abbot. Pack a picnic lunch and settle under the shady trees for a perfect afternoon.

One of the most popular and recognisable buildings in Newton Abbot is the Buckfast Abbey (Pictured at top). This stunning historical abbey was in first built in 1018. Since then, a rich and fascinating history has unfolded there. The abbey is now a wonderful culture of vegetables are grown and bees kept. Animals also make up its unique farm-like community. Product of the farming is sold in the gift shop that also sells items from communities all over the world.
