The weather is beginning to cool down. The holiday spirit is starting to set in. While that’s happening, bikes are being tucked away for the winter. We appreciate each and every one of you for taking us with you this past year. It’s been a joy to see you all in the community and at various events. A special thanks goes to all of the businesses that support Leather N Chrome and all of us that live life on two wheels. Next year looks to be even bigger and better. My First Bike‌ WINTER 2019
I bought my first bike, a Harley Road King Shriner edition in 2009 after recovering from a heart attack in 2008. I made a deal with the dealer and then thought about informing the wife‌. Wow. After a lot of discussion and apologies, I was forgiven. Four new bikes later and over 100,000 miles, we are enjoying riding even more. Moral of the story is, forgiveness is easier than permission. Grime from the road can cause wear & tear on your wheel bearings over time. Here’s how to check and/or replace them. Each wheel on your motorcycle has 2 bearings – 1 on each side. To check for damage or worn wheel bearings on the front: 1. Jack the wheel up off the ground 2. Grasp the wheel at the top and bottom and pull, then rotate the wheel. If the wheel wobbles or there is an unusual noise, the wheel bearings probably need replaced.
TO REMOVE THE BEARINGS: 1. Remove the 2 bolts on the forks on the front that hold the brake calipers on. 2. Loosen the axle on the front wheel and pull it out. 3. Lay the wheel off the floor using blocks of wood under the rim. This will allow room for the bearing to come out. 4. Use a long narrow punch or steel rod to drive the bearing out. There is a spacer between the two bearings. You will need to force the spacer away from the bearing you are working on in order to get your punch on that bearing. Once that bearing is out, flip the wheel over and drive the 2nd bearing out.
TO REPLACE THE BEARINGS: 1. Use a bearing drive or a socket that is the same size as the diameter of the bearing. 2. Place the new bearing in the hole of the wheel 3. Tap around the outside of the bearing with a hammer so it lines up straight in the hole. 4. Use your driver or socket to drive the bearing into place. 5. Flip the wheel over 6. Reinstall the spacer that you moved aside initially (because it fell out when you took the old bearings out) 7. Drive in the 2nd bearing 8. Replace the axle 9. Reinstall the brake caliper by replacing the 2 bolts on the fork 10. Use a torque wrench and tighten the axle and brake caliper to factory torque specifications You are now ready to ride!

BIKES N BITES Winter 2019
Bi k e r C hili Nothing better on a cold winter day than something warm. Try this quick and easy recipe for Biker Chili!
INGREDIENTS 1 lb Boneless Top Steak (Cubed) ● 1 tsp Garlic (Chopped) ● 1 tsp Chili Powder ● 1 can diced tomatoes ● 1 can tomato paste ● 1 tbl vegetable oil ●
1 can diced tomatoes & green peppers 1 can ranch style beans ● ½ tsp salt, black pepper, red pepper ● 1 tsp sugar ● 1 cup water ● ●
DIRECTIONS:
1. Cover steak cubes with salt and pepper. 2. Using a saucepan, cook steaks while adding chili powder, and garlic. 3. When steak is browned, add diced tomatoes, peppers, paste, water, sugar, and red pepper. 4. Cover and bring to a boil. Let it sit for 10 minutes uncovered while occasionally stirring. 5. BIKER LAWS “PROFILING: the recording and analysis of a person's psychological and behavioral characteristics, so as to assess or predict their capabilities in a certain sphere or to assist in identifying a particular subgroup of people.” You’ve probably seen it on Facebook, or the news. Bikers in certain parts of the country are being profiled because they ride on two wheels. The most noteworthy instance has been around the DFW area in Texas after a deadly shootout between clubs in Waco. Bikers in that area have caught the watchful eye of law enforcement. Some may even say they are being unlawfully profiled. There is no federal law that prohibits motorcycle profiling. It is however, unlawful to only stop a rider because they have a specific membership to a club. Unlawful stops for the sole reason of what someone looks like or chooses to wear is a violation of multiple constitutional amendments. If this is something you feel should be addressed in your state, you can contact a legislator to propose legislation that could end this unlawful profiling. Be safe out there.
