Lori’s Top Tips for Staging Your Home
S
taging your home when selling can make all the difference to a potential buyer. Staging allows you to show off your home’s strengths and value. You can downplay your home’s weaknesses while appealing to the greatest possible pool of prospective buyers Getting rid of clutter, re-arranging furniture and changing your color scheme to neutral paint colors are all easy changes you can make to help stage your home. Professional stagers are a value but there are many things you can do on your own. Here are some of my favorite home staging tips:
1. Declutter – This is the probably the easiest thing you can do to prepare your home for showings. Getting rid of clutter makes the home feel bigger and more open. It allows potential buyers to really see the home and all its best features. 2. Clean your windows- This might sound like something not a lot of people notice, but it really makes a bigger statement than you think. Having your windows cleaned inside and out shows buyers that you maintain all aspects of your home, plus it looks fabulous!
3. It’s all in the details- Look around your home and touch up the paint on baseboards, doorjambs and the edges of your walls where there are nicks and dents. We all have these little areas that get some abuse from our children or pets, but if buyers notice these areas, they start looking for other problems. 4. Neutral paint- This is a tough one for a lot of people. I’m sure you love your bright purple office, but bold colors have a way of reducing offers. Unfortunately, a lot of buyers can’t see past paint colors so think warm neutral tones because those are the colors that appeal to most people. 5. Odd number décor- A little known design trick is three’s company. For eye pleasing accessories, odd numbers look best, especially three. Think of a triangle and arrange your objects at each point, for instance, on a coffee table. Vary your objects in size and width. The next time you are in a home decorating store, like Pottery Barn, take notice of their groupings. I hope this helps you prepare your home for a quick sale or even if you just want to do a little Spring cleaning and updating!

For the outdoor enthusiast, there’s no shortage of hikes including the sevenmile Cape Horn loop trail found at milepost 26.4 where perseverance is rewarded with sweeping Gorge vistas. A little farther east, just beyond milepost 53, lies Dog Mountain offering a meadow of spring flowers bursting in a fusion of color waiting for every person willing to tackle the 2800-foot elevation gain. Salmon and trout run along Wind River near Stevenson and world-class steelhead fishing is to be had through September. A perennial favorite for top wind sport destinations in the world is the Gorge and Stevenson, Washington has Bob’s Beach, East Point Kite Beach, and Sailboard Park to launch from. In fact, July 24-25, the City of Stevenson will play host to the 15th annual Bridge of the Gods Kite Festival—we’re talking heart-pounding kiteboarding and windsurfing events. What are sports without spectators and Stevenson has a handful of great spots to watch some of these colorful sails, including the dog-friendly
