Toronto currently has the highest percentage of homes in low and highrise condominiums (nearly 30 percent), the 2016 Statistics Canada findings show. Next on the list is London, Ontario, at 16.8 percent, and Vancouver, British Colombia, at 16.7 percent. Soaring prices of detached homes are the main reasons for the growth in condo ownership. While in the past it was first-time buyers venturing into the condo market, now many families are raising two and three kids in a twobedroom condo. For many young families who wish to live in urban areas, condo living is the only affordable option. The Greater Toronto Area (GTA) in particular is seeing this shift to the condo market. Millennials, who currently represent 32% of homebuyers, are the latest up-and-coming market trendsetters, and many young couples are forgoing the extra bedroom and making sacrifices to stay in the city. They are willing to raise their families in smaller quarters, with children sharing a bedroom and with less living
