Welcome Friends, It’s our 20th Birthday issue! I (Joginder) first came across Tree of Life Magazine when a friend handed me a copy in a meditation group I used to go to in Kings Heath in 1997. When Maggy restarted the magazine in 2005 I remember seeing the new issue and being really drawn by it. I told Markéta at the time that we must meet Maggy at her monthly prosperity group and so we did. We firstly advertised in the magazine and helped with distribution. When we took over Tree of Life in 2008 it was a very exciting time! Here was a channel through which we could uplift & inspire many. Our first issue did not have any Tree of Life events. They started in the second issue when we incorporated our vision of co-creating inspiring events for like-minded people to meet each other for friendship & support. And what a joy it has been – all those events have become truly wonderful gatherings! One of the highlights so far has been Lorna Byrne’s angelic evening last year which was attended by over 750 people.

It’s an absolute honour to be leading the Tree of Life. All the wonderful people we’ve met and all the amazing teachers who came and spoke in Birmingham. We love that Tree of Life makes a positive difference to many people’s lives. It’s the most satisfying and fulfilling work we have ever done. Inspired Holistic Business The joy of losing your job & finding your life!

Joginder is a Director of Tree of Life and CoEditor of Tree of Life Magazine. He gives talks and runs workshops on self-empowerment and inspired holistic business. Hear him speak at the Tree of Life Festival on 1 June (see p10). If you have recently lost your job (or know someone who has) then don’t worry – it could be the best thing to have happened! I lost three jobs before I finally got the message that I needed to change direction. It’s only because I lost my jobs that I discovered a much more fulfilling life as a self-employed person doing what I love. Losing a job can be a time of great re-birthing in your life. A time to discover who you really are outside the box. Through selfemployment your true talents and abilities can grow and blossom into the world. For us it was through the Tree of Life – for you it could be through writing a book or starting your own business doing what you love. Starting your own self-employed business is a whole adventure in itself! Learning about marketing, promoting, websites, social media etc can feel a bit scary but it can also be a tremendous time of growth. When you catch the freedom and excitement of this new life nothing will hold you back! Here is my advice to anyone in the same situation: 1. De-clutter – Whenever we start a new chapter in our lives it’s good to begin with some spring cleaning and de-cluttering. Your home represents your life. You need to firstly release the old from your life so that there is space for the new to come it. 2. Enjoy the end of your old job – It has brought you wonderful gifts such as friendships and good memories so enjoy the last few days of any job you are leaving. Honour the people you have worked with and what you’ve learnt. 3. Embrace every day & enjoy life – Life is such a gift. Use your free time to study and learn new skills. To do things you enjoy doing and spending time with the people you love. Make a commitment to yourself to do whatever brings you joy everyday. 4. The Beginning - Understand you are at the beginning. You are giving birth to a new life. It’s all about taking baby steps in this new world and being kind and gentle with yourself.

5. Don’t try to work it all out – Don’t try to work out how you will achieve your goal just take one step of the journey each day and before you know it you will look back and see how far you’ve come! 6. Vision – Get a clear vision of what you want and feel it as if its already been achieved. Use your imagination to see it happening. Write down your vision statement as if it’s already been accomplished. Enjoy your success now! 7. Support Network - Gather a team of good friends around you who will support you in your new direction. People you can turn to for advice and encouragement. With support we can go much further than we ever can alone. 8. Spend time in nature - If it’s not flowing, relax by doing things like walk in the park. Spending time in nature on a daily basis it a great way to centre and ground yourself. The fresh air and natural beauty is so uplifting and inspiring. 9. Have breaks – When starting something new it’s easy to get carried away and spend all your hours on it. But it’s important to have lots of breaks and rests too. The resting time will give you a chance to recharge and refresh yourself so that you keep loving what you do. 10. Life has a habit of working out in the end, so enjoy the ride – Remember it’s a friendly universe and life supports you! 11. Worry Less – Worry will only bring you down and be counter productive. 12. Relax - If you relax more positive change will happen faster. 13. Have lots of fun – When your having fun your intuitions will flow. 14. Listen to your intuition - Spend some quiet time meditating in silence each morning and be guided by your intuition. 15. Follow your passion – Because this will be where you will find your success and life purpose. What are you passionate about – if you could do anything, what would you do? What makes your heart sing? 16. Get Excited - You need to get excited about your new life and love what you do. If you don’t feel it, no one else will. Excitement is a sign that you are on the right track – keep following your excitement and it will lead you to the life of your dreams. 17. It’s a Gateway - Understand this journey you are setting out on is a gateway to a new you, a new beginning and celebrate that! You will discover so much about yourself along the way and find your authentic voice. 18. Hope - Last of all and most importantly, have hope! It’s natural that you will have ups and downs on this journey. Hope is what keeps us going on those days when things don’t go well and we start to doubt ourselves. Hope is the key to success in so many things in life. Never give up!

Feeling hopeless? Here are six ways the angels can help by Lorna Byrne

A light in the darkness Sometimes when someone is feeling down I will see an angel with them holding a ball of light in front of them at heart level. No matter how tough a day, there are always bright moments in them if we can only see them. These days I see a lot of angels holding lights in

front of people, helping to encourage them. I see angels helping to kindle hope in us all the time – hope at an individual, a community, a national or a global level. Give you a sign of hope Angels are very good at giving signs. If you are only starting to develop your communication then ask for a small sign. Keep asking too. Perhaps you might ask for a particular friend who you haven’t been in contact with for a while to ring you, or you might ask for the lights in your room to flicker when you are thinking of, or talking to your guardian angel. I believe that each and every one of us are given signs in our own lives but so often we fail to see them, or dismiss them as insignificant. A sign from the angels, no matter how trivial it may seem at the time, is a symbol of hope that reminds us that we are not alone, no matter what may be happening in our lives. Sending a teacher angel Facing a challenging new situation? Ask a teacher angel to come and help you to pass your driving test, be confident in that meeting, lose that weight. I see teacher angels all the time; they come in and are around you while you are working on a particular task. I am always sad though that so few people call on their help – in the University near where I live I see a teacher angel with about one in ten students. Angels won’t overstep our free will we have to ask. There is nowhere, and no issue, that a teacher angel cannot help and no issue is too trivial for them to help with. I know judges and surgeons who have called on a teacher angel to help them to do their job better. The angels tell me that there is an unlimited number of teacher angels, and we should never hesitate to ask for help. Your asking for a teacher angel does not take an angel away from someone else. There is an abundance of teacher angels. Never feel that you are not deserving of help. We are all deserving of help and the angels love to help us. Remember though the teacher angel can’t do the work for you – it will teach and support you and give you the help and hope you need, but ultimately it’s up to you. Use the grace of healing to help yourself feel better I see the grace of healing at work every day. It’s a still energy that comes in waves from all parts of the human body. It’s beautiful when I see a mother or father’s holding a child in their arms and comforting them, pouring out the grace of healing. I see people using the grace of healing all the time but 99 per cent of the time I know that the person is not aware that they are sending healing - most parents are not aware of it when they instinctively comfort their child. When the person is conscious of using the grace of healing

it appears to me to be intensified. Of course one of the reasons God has given us the gift of the grace of healing is so as we can heal ourselves – so as we can make our own lives better. We are all in continuous need of healing emotionally and physically. Too often we lack compassion for ourselves and are very judgmental. Be aware that you have this healing energy and consciously use the gift – both to help yourself, and others. You are asked to be a messenger of hope The angels can’t do it all on their own, they need our help to bring hope into another’s life. Sometimes all you are asked to do is give a smile or a kind word. Watch out for a thought that you should do something for someone else. Don’t ask “what’s in it for me?” When you give hope to someone else you are giving hope to yourself at the same time.

In the beginning, Tree of Life magazine was more of a newspaper with articles by local people explaining what particular therapies were and how they worked. It ran to a whole eight pages in black and white. My now ex-husband, Jonathon Clark, and I started it together while he was running a bookshop in Woodbridge Road, Moseley, Birmingham. Moseley of course was (and still is) a hotbed of bohemians and there were therapists and health centres springing up all over the place.

I’m a born writer so it was a very short step to think ‘how about a magazine to draw these people together?’ It took three months from conception to first issue. Luckily our local network of therapists was very enthusiastic and took out ads to pay for the printing costs of no 1. Then we drove around the Midlands for a week finding outlets who were happy to stock copies. Sometimes it was hard to drive 15 miles for one shop that would only take five copies – and go back three months later to find that only one had been taken - but we did it! However, in Birmingham Tree of Life was an immediate success. It had its challenges as spiritual people can be a little disorganized and chasing them for articles and advertisements was a full-time job. But we knew that it was a service that was appreciated. We even ran some Tree of Life holidays – a prosperity week in the Algarve and Swimming with Dolphins in Eilat. Then Jonathon and I realized our dream and emigrated to Montana, USA. The magazine passed to Bernadette Rae and ran for a further two years. Subscribers included marketing folk from Boots and Holland & Barrett and other local shops who then started putting out their own magazines. Health magazines started to appear in newsagents too. We were really pleased to realize that we had been pioneers in a whole new movement. The magazine stopped when Bernadette moved to London... and the world changed in many ways for Jonathon and me. After I returned to the UK a dear friend reminded me that there was a whole magazine and a community of people still waiting in the Midlands. As my new love, Peter just happened to be a former assistant editor of Prediction magazine, it was a suggestion that couldn’t be ignored. We restarted Tree of Life and even with all the modern competition it thrived again. It was just a delight to hand it over to Markéta and Joginder because we knew that it needed to be developed into a real community – and that wasn’t where Peter’s and my joy lay. Now the Tree of Life Inspiration Network and all the other events are known all

over the UK. Well done to everyone who has built that community and may it grow and thrive in the future.

The benefits of wheatgrass in this form are endless: a general ‘feel good’ factor, helps digestion, detoxification and healing. I have been drinking wheatgrass juice everyday for over two weeks now: my skin is more elastic, glowing, my body feels clean, more receptive and my mind is clearer and focused. Wheatgrass provides chlorophyll, amino acids, minerals, vitamins, and enzymes. Fresh wheatgrass juice is sweet and gluten free. Wheatgrass juice has over twenty
