usiness gets bad press, and often justifiably. But like all things in life, business is simply a canvass onto which we paint our consciousness, and is of itself neither good or bad. So business can be a vehicle for greed, exploitation and damage. It can also be a vehicle for upliftment, growth and contribution. Work can be the way we share our gifts with the world, remember who we are and discover our own untapped potential. As Kahlil Gibran said, “Your work is your love made visible.” I am in service to the growing number of people who I call Inspired Entrepreneurs. I serve people who are themselves serving a higher purpose. These are people who have heard their calling, found work that is personally meaningful to them and want the autonomy to do that work through the vehicle of their own business. I have come to call this The Business You Were Born To Create. But many of us starting and running businesses today have not been bought up as entrepreneurs; indeed, we have probably spent most of our lives being employed. What made us good employees can make us bad entrepreneurs. Being entrepreneurial is a whole different way of looking at and being in the world. Most inspired entrepreneurs are purpose inspired rather than money driven.

here is a Tantra scripture from India, which is at least 5000 years old called the Vigyan Bhairav Tantra, (meaning methods for raising consciousness) which describes 112 meditations. These are offered in the form of a conversation between Lord Shiva and his consort, Paravati. She asks: “Oh Shiva, What is your reality? What is this wonder-filled Universe? What constitutes seed? Who centres the universal wheel? What is this life beyond form pervading forms? How may we enter it fully, above space and time, names and descriptions? Let my doubts be cleared!” Shiva answers in the form of Sutras, which are short condensed spiritual teachings, covering each and every facet of human experience. When we immerse ourselves in these sutras by practicing them as meditations, we learn that each aspect of the human being can become a door into expanded consciousness.

A selection of a few sutras are as follows: “Look lovingly at some object. Do not go to another object. Here in the middle of the object - the blessing.” “Bathe in the centre of sound, as in the continuous sound of a waterfall. Or, by putting the fingers in the ears, hear the sound of sounds.” “When eating or drinking, become the taste of food or drink, and be filled.” “When in such embrace your senses are shaken as leaves, enter this shaking.” Tantra is both an art and a science, which transforms our mundane reality into it’s exalted potential, through the union of love and awareness. I call this, ‘tasting the nectar of the meditation’. It may be necessary to practice a certain meditation several times or even for months, in order to discover the nectar hidden within it. Once this has happened, you will remain open in regards to this particular life principle. By practicing these methods, people open up and transform their life very rapidly. Tantra has been much misunderstood, as people tend to believe that it is only associated with sexuality. In fact, it is the art and the science of living life to it’s fullest potential in all aspects, including sexuality, love and spirituality. Just as we polish a diamond to see the shine, through Tantra methods, we learn to polish our own being till each facet of our life is revealed in it’s divine radiance. hough what I am is essentially a holy man in modern form and what I do, is provide as many types of ladders to the transcendent realm as possible to be pertinent to the greatest number of people in a lifelong bid to promote collective evolution of human consciousness, this necessarily involves packaging it into distinct products – books, online courses, video material, music, events and so on – and bringing these effectively to market. And though Barefoot Doctor is essentially a job descriptor, meaning ‘humble healer’, based on the ancient Taoist tradition for wandering mendicants who travelled about the countryside helping people be well and happy, it necessarily became a brand – the ship in which all the products sail along. However because what I’m bringing to market is all based on the Taoist template and because what I share I share as the tried and tested fruits of my personal practice in the Taoist way, I naturally market my goods and run my brand according to Taoist principles. Now I’m in no way advocating that you should do similar, as it’s not necessarily the fastest way to material success, however if what I tell you here does inspire you and you find yourself following similar lines, you’ll no doubt find, as have I, that it brings you the most unimaginable measure of satisfaction and joy all round. The whole point of doing anything on the material plane, according to this system, is to enjoy dancing with the invisible yet ubiquitous background presence (or Tao) informing this whole show. The actual achievements themselves are merely the baubles and bangles, not the substance of the prize itself. Reframing in this way, each day becomes a joy rather than a struggle, because no matter what you achieve or don’t you’ve felt the presence of the Tao. Ironically by identifying yourself thus, it seems to trigger a hugely benign flow of events and opportunities in your direction that take your business where you wanted it to go all the while anyway.

Understanding the inevitable cycling of yin and yang (contractive phases followed by expansive phases, back again and so on), you stop grasping at the excitement of the easy times, or at the anxieties of the difficult times – both phases are merely wonderful opportunities to witness the Tao in different shades and hues. This helps you relax and flow more freely, which in turn causes you to make more original, creative decisions in your planning and conception of new ideas for products. Then understanding how the energy you transmit returns to you multiplied, you naturally gravitate towards generosity and fairness when dealing with employees, partners, suppliers or customers, and though occasionally you’ll get rolled by unscrupulous bounders, mostly this enlightened, ethical, loving approach will cause the world to be generous with you in return. Above all however, you offer quality rather than going for sensationalism, you offer originality rather than going for copying others, and you imbue every offering with all the love in your heart, because ultimately your purpose is to be of service by contributing great things to the world, as this rather than egocentrically serving yourself, is what gives your own life the degree of meaning, direction and value required to make it all feel worthwhile – and paradoxically causes far more wealth and success to flow your way over the long run anyway. But as I say, I’m not suggesting this is a path you can adapt for your own purposes – it requires a huge level of derring do, let-go, surrender and courage, inevitably takes you on a proper rollercoaster, and often leaves you wondering if you aren’t plain touched in the head, but if you do choose to follow it, the rewards are so huge and incredible, enjoyable and magnificent, you ultimately won’t regret a single moment of it. In fact, what a ride – I love it and hope perhaps I’ve inspired you with it too.

I’ve been blessed enough to follow my heart’s desire as a career for the last 20 years, writing and teaching on the Spiritual Laws of Prosperity, Kabbalah and Soul Wisdom. However, along the way I’ve fallen flat on my face many times mostly because I didn’t have companions in the Work to help and advise me where I was going offcourse. The advice I got was from people in conventional businesses who didn’t ‘get’ my purpose. As the poet Rumi says: “When setting out on a journey do not consult someone who has never left home.”

ometimes I was too proud to ask for help or was too busy trying to help other people to give myself time to receive. I’ve been too arrogant to go to workshops which could have helped me; I’ve been resentful when things didn’t work out instead of being grateful for the guidance that I was going in the wrong direction. And I see others doing just the same as I used to do while covering it over with a layer of pretty pink fluff, and saying ‘I’m going with the flow’ or ‘it wasn’t meant to be’ and pretending that all is well when what should be a thriving holistic business is failing. So often the issue is just about being half-an-inch out of line with your true path - but that halfan-inch makes all the difference. If we simply go with the flow we are subject to the vagaries of the river and can get smashed into rocks. My spiritual teacher Z’ev ben Shimon Halevi taught me that it is vital to row one mile an hour faster than the current. That way, you can see the rocks coming and navigate round them. All this means is to stay awake and see the patterns forming in your business so that you can make the appropriate changes that will enable you to thrive. Among the many things I have learnt is that you need commitment to prosper in your own work. Commitment involves discipline and it’s likely that many of us desired to start our own business or work in complementary therapy because we wanted to getaway from the

traditional ‘You must do this or that in the way the company dictates’ idea. It can be hard to discipline ourselves to do daily meditation; to continue to grow so that we can serve our clients better; to understand what our own blocks to abundance may be. But the problem with saying, “I’ll do that one of these days” is that one of these days never comes. Another big source of resistance is about receiving. We give and do without realising that by constantly taking charge and pushing, we block off the Universe’s ability to give to us. To transform this, we need companions on the journey who will hold us accountable. That’s why the Mastermind group idea is so useful. This was made popular by Napoleon Hill in his classic Think and Grow Rich back in the early 1900s. In a Mastermind group, participants support and challenge each other to create and carry out goals, brainstorm ideas, treating each other with honesty, respect and compassion. If we work together to create and thrive in our spiritual business then we draw the Universal Mind in to help us as well. Your peers give you feedback, help you brainstorm new possibilities, and set up accountability structures that keep you focused and on track. What you can put into your green smoothie?

Any leafy green vegetables like spinach, kale, lettuces, watercress, rocket, collard, swiss chard, sunflower greens, sprouts and blossoms. They are all a wonderful rich source of enzymes, chlorophyll and nutrients. By adding Goji berries, blueberries, apple or banana you’ll get a surprisingly delicious and smooth drink!
