Venue: RRtheVoice at The Palladium and Wall of Sound at Cathedral Oaks Looking for the perfect DJ for your wedding or event? We talked with two leading Central Texas DJs and asked them questions that brides want to know. Below is their helpful advice on finding the DJ right for you.
What is your company known for and what do you offer to brides that sets your company apart? Carlo: Wall of Sound Productions is known for delivering first-class service not just the day of, but throughout the planning process. Jon: RRtheVoice is best known for providing music and public address announcing at numerous sporting events locally throughout the year. My work as a DJ and emcee is a natural extension of my announcing career and I enjoy bringing the same enthusiasm and passion to weddings and dances as I do to the games I work. As far as what sets my company apart, I take exceptional pride in my lighting. Couples have options to add up to 23 uplights, custom monograms and specialized nightclub-style effect lighting to their package to perfectly fit their mood and personality.
How many years have you been DJing?
Carlo: We started in 2010 and continue to grow and expand our service area and services offered. We have become one of the most recommended DJ companies by our past clients and fellow wedding professionals. Jon: RRtheVoice has four years of experience with weddings and social events and fourteen years industry experience with sporting events.
What is your top suggestion for selecting music to make guests want to dance? Carlo: Our goal is to instill confidence to our clients in our ability as an experienced wedding and event group of DJs to read a crowd

and trust us to play the right song at the right time. Jon: Get their input! Whether adding a request line to the RSVP card or allowing the DJ and guests to fully interact at the wedding, guest feedback is critical. The couple's favorite songs to listen to together may not always be what fills the dance floor.

When working with your company, how do couples submit their music selections to you?
Carlo: Submitting music selection is easy. We're as hands on or hands off as the client wants us to be. We're perfectly capable and willing to walk clients step-by-step through the music selection for the day of. Clients have open and direct communication with us from day one and can be assured that the music will reflect their tastes and accommodate their guests' tastes as well. Jon: I provide a song selection guide that takes the couple through all possible segments of the ceremony and reception. There is also room for them to input songs that they do or do not want played throughout the evening as a whole.
Is it better for couples to select a genre of music or to compile a list of songs they would like to be played?
Carlo: I prefer a general list. Aside from formal dance songs, I always tell couples that we do not guarantee that we will play all of the songs listed as we go with what the crowd is responding to the night of the wedding.
Jon: I recommend that couples compile a list of songs while allowing the DJ the flexibility to add music as he or she sees fit and accommodate guest requests. There is a balance between being too general or vague with requests and tying the DJ's hands behind his back by dictating the entire playlist.
Any helpful tips on hiring a DJ that suits a couple's style?
Carlo: Our goal when meeting potential clients is to give enough information so that whether they choose Wall of Sound Productions or not, they make a decision they are comfortable and confident in. Jon: A couple should choose a DJ that has good knowledge of their main genre of music, a sense of the overall mood they wish to set both audibly and visually, and a personality with whom they are comfortable. The music is only one part of a much bigger picture to be painted that evening, and a professional DJ will have an eye and an ear to bring the couple's style and personality to life in partnership with their other vendors.

Every couple with out-of-town guests needs a room block. Not only do room blocks guarantee that your guests will have a place to stay, they also offer better rates and a centralized location with meal and transportation options for groups. We had the pleasure of interviewing Jacquelyn from Hotel Indigo to gain a bit of insight on the do's and don'ts of hotel shopping.

Looking for a place to get ready with all of your bridesmaids? Many times you are able to book a suite at a special rate as part of your room block.
Timing is everything if you plan to share your special day with out-of-town guests. Be sure to book your room block six to eight months from your wedding date. When selecting a wedding date, it is best to be considerate of your traveling guests and their budgets. For example: If you plan to marry in Waco during Baylor football season and are expecting many guests from afar, wait to set your wedding date until the football schedule has been released as rates will skyrocket on home game weekends. Also beware of setting your wedding on holiday weekends as hotels may have higher rates then as well. The best local rates are available during summer when school is out or in December before the holidays.
Brunches are IN. Whether you're going for a traditional Bridal Brunch paired with manicures and pedicures the day prior to the wedding with your most-loved ladies or planning a Farewell Brunch for out-oftown guests leaving the day following the wedding, a nice hotel will have you covered. Both Hotel Indigo in Waco and their sister hotel the Hilton Garden Inn in Temple offer delectable options for brunch either in their main dining rooms or in a private space. How do room blocks work? Contact the sales department of your favorite hotel and ask to set up a room block. Depending on the number of rooms, a deposit may be required, but if the majority of your rooms fill, the deposit will be returned to you or applied to your own room. Be sure that once your room block is in place, guests have access to the information to book under your block within the allotted time frame. You can list your room block info on both your invite details card and on your wedding website. Guests can then easily call the hotel and give your name to book their rooms under the special rate. Go for color. When selecting a gown, consider going with a nontraditional color. Traditionally wedding gowns were white, but over the years brides have been choosing hints of color. Find the color that works for you and your wedding.

The staff at Georgio’s Bridal in Waco are friendly and knowledgeable. Begin by calling to set up an appointment. Invite your best friends and closest family members or come alone and keep it a secret. Be sure to bring the type of shoes—whether heels, flats or boots—you intend to wear at your wedding. It doesn’t have to be the exact pair, just a similar height. Other essentials include nude panties and a strapless bra. If you have any questions, call ahead. Once you’ve selected your gown, it will be ordered and you'll be notified once it comes in to set an appointment for alterations. Bridal portraits may then be scheduled. Be sure to bring your dress back to the salon to be steamed and prepped prior to the wedding date.

Who doesn't love an open bar? While booze is not
required for a good time, many couples are excited to
offer their guests a selection of their very own favorite
beverages. The first thing to consider is the actual bar
where the alcohol will be served. Does your venue have
a built-in bar and is it large enough to sustain your crowd? Is there an on-site ice machine? We recommend one bar/ bartender for every 100 guests who are drinking. If your
venue doesn't have a bar or doesn't have a large enough
bar, you're in luck! Confetti Rentals has some beautiful bar options available for any style of wedding. Ideas include:
a traditional wooden bar, a linen-topped table featuring a beer tub and drink dispensers, or for a more rustic feel, whiskey barrels topped with a vintage door.
Don't forget the glassware. Confetti Rentals offers a wide selection of cocktail glasses in-
cluding high balls, martini glasses, wine and champagne glasses, and pilsners. While keg beer is fine in clear plastic glasses, wine and champagne require glasses. Unlike most cocktail glasses,
wine drinkers will typically keep their glass throughout the evening. For other cocktails, expect to
rent one glass per serving as cocktail drinkers typically do not return glasses to the bar. If utilizing glassware, extra staff may be required for bussing tables and rinsing glasses.
What will you serve and how much?
Many couples choose to stick with beer and wine, but adding signature drinks or a full bar are options as well. To determine the number of beverages needed, start with the total guest count and subtract children then divide by 2 as half of your guests will likely be driving. Multiply this number by 5 drinks for the average four hour reception. Wine is 5 servings per bottle, so a case is 60 servings and many brides have 1-2 cases of each red and white wine. Liquors should be poured in one ounce servings with mixers such as juice or soda; standard bottles are 750ml or 25 ounces i.e. 25 servings. Kegs or bottles is always a hot debate: Both average $1 per serving, but we prefer bottles because they are much easier to serve and you won't have to worry about returning kegs or renting taps. To keep your beer cold, you can rent large ice chests if necessary.
