EDITOR’S NOTE
Futuristic is a trend that explores the impact that technology will have on our lives as the different ways that man and machine will continue to fusion. Innovations in textiles, the creation of new materials and creative color palettes will impact design. With the increasing use of social networks and their influence on our lives we can’t ignore the fact that many of these projects are being financed and exploited by various social networking or search engine companies. In an increasingly interconnected world, social networks have played a key role in changing tastes and disseminating trends. Social presence is becoming a construct of our personal identities. Beyond likes, followers and heart-imprinted comments, we will see a rise in concerns with the openness and the consequences of our personal information being shared can bring. This will in the future lead us to a turning point where people will begin to realize that this may not be the best option and they will want to go incognito. Human Nature show man’s need to return to a more sustainable way of life, and the Intuition trend the need to detach himself from the opinion of others and look inward for ways of self-improvement. In the coming years we will also continue to see a crescendo in the movements of female empowerment and inclusion of all races. In a period when political turmoils are scaring people, access to the internet allows everyone to become political activists and use their broader reaching to increase moral conscience. Cultural Fusion translates in the mix of different cultures in our way of living. Designed for those who wish to comprehend the origins of coming trends, our trend forecast include exhaustive research, stunning moodboards and abundant design, color and material suggestions. Keep yourself one step ahead, and take a peek with us into the future.

FUTURISTIC When you think about the future, how do you envision it?
The consumer of today is living in a past-present future where surreal technology, like Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence, exist within a world where the past is still important and prevalent. Futuristic is further supported by the rise of 3D-printed clothing, footwear, and accessories that are being influenced by tech-driven design and a new generation of technical materials that are ultra light, highly breathable, protective, and thermo regulated. As gender roles become more flexible, terms like “gender-neutral” or genderless masculinity get more predominant with a generation of forward-looking persons emerging. These are audacious people who call themselves “without gender”, challenging preconceived ideas of gender, race, ethnicity and sexuality. Metallic textures undoubtedly make a statement but futuristic fashion is also defined by other aspects like embossed textures, bespoke fabrics and liquid or metallic finishes. Futuristic is also slowly influencing our lifestyle as much as services are upscaling, introducing premium and luxury options. Jobs are being displaced by technology, most of the times with the use of robots or drones. As robotics expand into a wider range of consumer-facing industries, the objective will be to develop technologies with humanizing details to replicate the textures, expressions and warmth of a human. The now world-famous robot Sophia is a perfect example of this. Anti-aging mechanisms and the perfection of the human body is also a near goal with Google’s associated company, Verily, being on a quest to find the cure to live forever. The world is changing at an extraordinary rate and the question is to know how humans are going to evolve with it.

COLOR MAP Futuristic brings in concepts like textured colors and dark, eccentric tones. Vivid reds, vibrant blues and iridescent colors that evoke images of technology are counteracted by neutrals like grey or old pink that serve as reminders of the past. This tones blend seamlessly the past and the future to create a contemporary and intemporal palette that is inspired by the future of fashion.

New technologies and innovations in fabrics will shift from runway to ready-to-wear. The combination of synthetic and natural fabrics or ecofriendly fibres with performance materials will improve and make way for the creation of Intelligent Fabrics. This fabrics will give enhanced levels of performance and functionality like UV protection, water repellency and quick drying. In fashion the use of velvet, latex and plastic inspired materials, like neoprene, will give an innovative feel to any look.

CONTEMPORARY STREET STYLE
CONTEMPORARY STREET STYLE Contemporary Streetstyle is a movement for creatives, artists, art shakers and social activists. Its a macro trend used for political messaging and bold statements. With this tense political climate and our collective feelings of uncertainty, comes an explosion of creative expression. This new maker’s movement is galvanized to make a difference in the world by reusing waste and transforming the mundane into expressive art for the people. Virtual communities also encourage the use of style with political and personal messages, so fashion must rekindle its power of communication to express ideas, beliefs and traditions of particular subcultures. In the future we will see more of the Female Empowerment. Women are expressing socioeconomic and cultural power, breaking out of stereotypes. We will see innovative creations in fashion approached with a new way of thinking. Intelligent and smart attitudes towards everyday dressing become ever more important, along with the continued idea of individuality. Fashion will be proeminent in the expression of the individuality of each person because the contemporary consumer will dress to suit hisher own needs and personalities.

Color is an integral element of our world, not just in the natural environment but also in the man-made architectural environment. The goal of color design in an architectural space isn’t relegated to only decoration anymore. Color evokes emotions and with a correct use can inject brightness, energy, dominance and positivity in a room and in consequence in the people that inhabit it.

The application of a mixture of bold colors - pairing a few solid hues to create a single bold look - may have started on the fashion runways, but it’s also a great decor tactic. A graphic mix of bright paint, upholstery, and flooring injects a room with playful personality and dimension. Pixelated shapes and over-lapping layers give illusory depth to flat surfaces. Manipulations and errors are encouraged in the making process, adding character and individuality.

HUMAN N AT U R E Turmoil in the world — from terrorism to climate change — is resulting in growing disaster areas and temporary habitation, such as refugee camps. Droughts and floods will continue to cause havoc with food crops affecting millions of people in the years to come. With such pressuring social problems it’s increasing a common social conscience with people feeling connected with one another and raising the need to go back to the roots and live a more sustainable life. In this form of architecture the use of decoration is unreasonable, its value depends only on the raw material. Futuristic architecture promotes the use of steel, glass, and cement, free of painting and ornaments, only rich in the beauty of its shape and lines. These buildings naturally possess a power of motion that is by far stronger compared to horizontals and perpendiculars. The appreciation of flawed art, buildings, products, experiences and people will have and impact in our lives. Our tastes in beauty standards are evolving from a perfect to an imperfect aesthetic. The desire for flawless skin will be replaced by the desire to look cutely unique. Makeup will be used to mimic the appearance of natural beauty, such as highlighting blemishes and freckles. Human Nature is also about handmade crafts, the farm-to-fabric movement, biotextiles and the maker’s movement. It blurs the boundaries of the natural and the synthetic. It examines the moments where our organic world collides with the digital realm.

Maersk Tower by CF Møller Architects
We live in a visually stimulated era. Never before has screen-based media dominated so much of our lives. In the home, this digital overload is inspiring a trend for “raw” materials. Raw in this context describes materials that are irregular and rough, handworked and weathered, rather than highly finished. It is an aesthetic designed to engage the senses beyond the visual: textured stone demands to be touched, raw wood has a soft lingering scent and patinated brass has a warmth that comes from age. By combining them with building products you can achieve more warm interiors that still maintain this raw aesthetics, but without appearing nude or uncomfortable.

C U LT U R A L FUSION Globalization is bringing people of the East and West closer. Cultural references are also influenced by trade, digital connection, migration and media, mechanisms that challenge and reinforce one culture over another. People get inspired from what and who they see online and this goes beyond whatever culture they are living in. There will always be local style and cultural niches but people will be influencing others like never before. The evolution of connectivity, both real and virtual, are driving this trend – which focuses on a growing sense of community, cultural sharing and breaking boundaries. Just like a painting, a movie, or a song, fashion will play a main role in the fusion of different cultures and influences. Culture Fusion brings together a diverse mix of cultural references. A colourful mix of influences ignites our sense of community and togetherness. Red-based earthy tones and spicy yellows are at the heart of this trend. Blending of cultural references drives a vibrant and rebellious direction that takes combinations from various cultures intro a fresh, unexpected remix. Patterns, artefacts and even elements of cultural identity are combined to define a new sense of shared visual identity.

Today we travel more, read more, surf the Internet and this capacity to be influenced by foreign ideias and concepts is reshaping the way we create our buildings. INTUITION
INTUITION In a world where social media and instant gratification are becoming a norm, people are getting more and more stressed and anxiety is the most prominent disease of the century. Our need to disconnect, feel human emotions, and engage in activities that increase our sense of self-confidence and improve self-growth will only increase in the future. Mind management and meditation exercises are becoming common therapies to help counter a constant flow of information. From unstable politics to terrorism and climate change threats, people are seeking ways to train their minds and emotions, whether with meditation apps or breath work guides. Beauty-care routines are being blended with rituals and items of religious or spiritual importance, such as holy water toner, soap infused with-ritual flower or incense charcoal scrub. In this way, holistic and meditative experiences become part of the daily routine. At the same time people are rejecting organized religion and incorporating alternative beliefs. The pursuit of a clean lifestyle — free from additives, toxic ingredients, excess sugar or anything deemed “bad” — will spur the creation of more premium products and foods, such as clean meat, pollution-free makeup and organic labeled food. Products, spaces and experiences will be tailored with focus on the physical or mental wellbeing and health. Key influences are sensory textiles, experiential spaces, a focus on mindful living and inclusion design that makes us connect to one another.

NEO MINT
NEO MINT There are several ways to include Neo Mint in commercial and residential projects. The combinations are endless, but it is important to seek harmonization between tones and materials. Neo Mint is associated with feelings of calm, security and tranquility, so it’s a great color to use in spaces that bring those same feelings like kitchens or offices. Considered a pastel tone, one way to include this color in an environment is to apply it as an accent color on fabrics of synthetic or natural fibers. The more daring can use Neo Mint on their walls, in this case, it is interesting to keep the rest of the surfaces neutral, in order to avoid excessive information and highlight the tone of 2020. Another option is to play with different palettes, you can use items with variations of green (monochromatic) and have the union of tones like moss, olive or emerald. The first appearance of this soft color was with Sies Marjan that showcased Neo Mint in its Fall 2017 collection. From there, mint has appeared on the Versus Versace Spring 2018 runway and on the Chanel Fall 2018 Haute Couture runway in the form of a sequin-trimmed jacket and maxi skirt. The Moschino Fall 2018 runway gave the color a Jackie Kennedy vibe. The Annakiki Fall 2018 collection was one of the biggest promoters of the trend with a number of models wearing monochromatic mint outfits complete with coordinating lipstick. On the street style front, Gigi Hadid dressed in a monochromatic outfit of the same shade. The lines of gender fashion aren’t as clear as they once were. Gender fluid fashion isn’t just a phase in fashion, but a compelling movement and a step toward the evolution. The concepts of masculinity and femininity no longer define the clothing people wear and color can be a way of getting rid o f delimitations.

Color trends are always changing. In fashion, runway color trends reflect what consumers are buying and how society at large wants to look at a particular moment. The bright green that promises to impact 2020 was elected by WGSN. From a fashion perspective, Mint embodies the drive towards tones that have gender-neutral appeal. The color Mint could also easily represent our push for good health. Similar to frozen yellow, which at the same time suggested both feelings of happiness and alarm, Mint will strike a balance between our desire for wellness but also for new and exciting technology.

HONEY YELLOW
HONEY YELLOW Honey Yellow is a sun soaked retro hue. Inspired in earth baked tones, this color brings a nostalgic vibe to decorative accents, furnishings, and paints. There isn’t a compromise when using this color, its vibrancy and allure allows a variety of combinations with other colors. Despite the fact that many interior designers pass yellow as a difficult color to work it, yellow is easy to use as an complementary to other colors. It brings out the brightness of blues, greens, grey and even black – which is why many interior designers choose statement pieces to bring out the quality of the room. Soft hues of yellow can often make your room look even bigger than it is, and it’s even possible to make the yellow stylish with stripes, patterns and more. Pantone’s color choice for 2019 might be living coral, but Honey Yellow it’s the consumer’s favorite. The hue popped up on the spring ‘19 runways of Brandon Maxwell’s, Carolina Herrera’s and Oscar de la Renta’s collection meaning the soft shade will be everywhere next season. The move towards all things yellow has been largely driven by the younger generation and been dubbed the next Millennial Pink. The color is a bold one. Whereas shades of deep blue or washed-out green function as near-neutrals, seamlessly folding into any wardrobe, yellow demands attention. It’s an eyecatcher and a statement-maker. For this reason it was first picked up by many style influencers. Think Beyonce’s infamous ‘Hold Up’ dress or photographer Petra Collins shoot with Selena Gomez. Not restricted to one shade, varying nuances are being explored from light buttercup to imperial mustard, to our grounded honey yellow hue.

C A N TA L O U P E Natural hues amaze and delight providing fabulous inspirations for modern interior design color schemes. Cantaloupe is a color we associate with spring, thanks to its bright and witty feel. It’s a great way to bring that warm and sunny feeling to a home all year round. Cantaloupe is a great option for a kitchen. For a more retro vibe, pair a brighter peach with another pastel like mint green. This relaxed, comfy, and cozy color combination also works well for nurseries and is a great alternative to baby pink. It’s more sophisticated than typical pinks, so works well for kids of all ages. Cantaloupe may seem like an ultra feminine color, but if you balance it with cooler tones it becomes more like a neutral. This method works well for bedrooms. It creates a romantic vibe without being too intense.

Quiet and energizing at the same time, the tone has already appeared strongly on some summer runway’s 2019. Give your closet a boost with a bright-orange statement piece. You can do trousers or a statement dress. Alternatively, find a floral or other pattern that weaves in the color with other. Darker orange shades also had a spring 2019 runway moment, courtesy of brands like Richard Malone and Valentino. It’s a great color to have in your wardrobe as you transition your coldweather pieces into sunnier weather—it works just as well with the warmer, darker hues of fall as it is does with the brighter, cheerier ones of spring.

DUSK BLUE
DUSK BLUE A light and pastel color Dusk Blue combines well in the ambiance of any home. This shade gives off a soft and innocent vibe, but can also easily be translated into a flirtier look as well. Among all colors, blue is the most immaterial one, and although it is a cool color, it doesn’t look cold. In Tibetan Buddhism, blue is the color of wisdom. It can be combined with other colors and materials to make your space calmer. It’s a rich color that not only feels really stylish but also has qualities that may have a positive psychological effect for calming the mind. For example, you can try out in a kitchen, bathroom, living room or can be in a detail like a sofa. It might just be that blue is the new shade that will create a sanctuary for you and your home.

COLOR MAP Most of the pastels in the spring/summer 2019 color trends were variations on pink and purple, but dusk blue was also extremely prominent. Blue is already a soothing shade, but its pastel iteration evokes a sense of cheerful calm. This spring 2019 runway color was especially prominent on the monochrome, pastelheavy Emilia Wickstead runway, where it showed up in flowy dresses and long jackets. Other runways to showcase elegantly this color included Tibi, Hugo Boss, Erdem, and Roland Mouret. A pleated clearwater blue dress at Givenchy really made waves, and achieved a nearly iconic status.
