PRE-SPRING 17 Experimentation is at the heart of the Pre-spring 17 collection, which draws inspiration from the creative process itself. Versatile, adaptive pieces form looks that can cross seasons, in a color palette that moves from ice cream pastel tones to bold, energetic stripes, prints and textured neutrals. Fabric itself is taken as a starting point, with particular attention paid to the fabric mills and factories of Italy that Ports 1961 works with. With a nod to the heritage of the house, the label’s “Made in Italy” and “Work in Progress” insignia are reworked to become central components of individual garments. For instance, an athletic scarf, recalling the optimism of the sports fan, features a “Made in Italy” woven jacquard blanket fabric in colourful stripes. Woven jacquards, cottons and silk fil coupé offer an evolved take on traditional shirting and outerwear. Sporty stripes pay heed to a buoyant, spirited mood. Glossy coated cotton in a rich brown features on a “cocoon coat”. Everywhere there is a sense of challenging the norm with lighthearted grace, subverting our expectations of what femininity and elegance can look like. Playful elements such as patchwork motifs, collaged pieces and cut-outs advance the inherent adaptability of the brand’s classic shapes. A shrunken raincoat features cut-outs which allows it to be worn as a cape over the shoulders. A cream jacket in light silk fil coupé is illustrated with charming dark green doodles, becoming an essential layering piece. The tape traditionally used in the construction of raincoats is repurposed into a medium for decoration, as scribbled lips appear joyfully on bonded cotton coats and Breton striped sweaters. “Our attitude is always one of positivity, of optimism,” explains Nataöa Cagalj, creative director. “It is important for us to show that. We always want that spirit of curiosity and experimentation from our design process to carry through into what we produce in our collection.”

“Each fashion show requires a certain setting, which in turn requires a big budget and because we are promoting a large number of designers, we had to be creative and that’s why we choose to use imagination, nature or local tourist spots as runways to ensure that every designer gets their money’s worth. To this end, Feeric Fashion Week brings a real contribution to regional tourism.” Mitichi, president of the event, tells Trend Privé Magazine.

Review

0004

Whether we are talking about nature, historical monuments, railway depots or airports, Feeric Fashion Week has already been consecrated with extensively impressive shows. This fashion week has a big impact in terms of tourism, when otherwise relatively underexposed areas such as Transylvania are promoted online in such a big way. People looking for information on the shows stumble upon various undiscovered towns and the appeal of the packaging of FFW translates into peaked interest in these lesser known areas of Europe.

0003

Feeric Fashion Week, the largest Eastern European fashion week, lives up to its name through spectacular shows in dreamy places. Alba-Iulia and Sibiu are the cities that host this major event where countless designers have the opportunity to present their collections in a unique way.

Whether you come and visit while the event is in full swing, or if you wait till after, the important thing is that you get a lot of very useful information from the FFW website in light of all the participants that expose online both locations and tips on restaurants or local cafes that they have tested daily. Castle Clay from Fairy Valley is among the most impressive locations. Located in Porumbacul de Sus, 40 km east of Sibiu, the castle simply makes you feel like you’re in a fairytale. Even if it’s not released to the general public yet, investors are rushing to launch this unique place on the market as a hotel. Situated on the edge of a river, the castle offers 10 rooms and a restaurant, perfect for a weekend getaway. Charles & Ron were designers who chose to unveil their collection here and they definitely did not fail. For a couple of hours, Feeric Fashion Week took place in Brukenthal Palace from Avrig, where Ana Maria Gălan and Dana Rogoz presented their clothing line. Situated just 20 km away from Sibiu, the baroque styled building offers a luxurious garden which is perfect for a midsummer day. This is, without a doubt, a most enchanting place which will surprise you with the beauty of its natural setting. If you like travelling, riding or biking, you will get all the support needed here.

B Y A N G IE CAR P Another touristic attraction, found in the main square of the city of Sibiu, is the Brukenthal Museum where you can find not only widely European but also more specifically Romanian art. From consecrated pieces to contemporary ones as well as temporary expositions, the museum must be on your to-visit list in Sibiu. Mihaela Cirlugea was the one who presented her collection in this historical setting on the 4th day. Many other places in Sibiu were featured, such as the Astra Library for Natalia Vasiliev’s wedding dress collection, and the Old Town streets, for designers like Cylia Dora, Vali Ciobanu, Mona Predescu, Roxana Pîrvu, Catch Michelle and many more. Although you cannot visit this, I would like to mention the CFR railway depot, where Emma Viedma had a unique presentation. The small square of the city was the chosen place for the Feeric Fashion Week closing gala. It’s another part of the city which must be visited for its special charm and endless restaurants and terraces which thrive in summer months. This was Feeric Fashion Week’s 9th edition. If your interest has been captivated by these events and for these 2 wonderful cities, you will find more information on the FFW website. Sibiu is open 24/7, 365 days per year. I N TER V IEW WIT H SU P ER M ODE L & a c t r e s s CATRI N E L M AR L O N by Myr a Pos tol ache

i t a ll s ta r t e d . . . Myra: How old were you when you started your modeling career? Catrinel: I was scouted on the streets of Iasi in Romania when I was about 16 years old. My parents agreed on letting me be part of a local fashion show where a big agency saw me and handed me a contract. Soon after, I was booking job after job all over Europe. It was crazy, everything happened so fast. Myra: When did you do your first fashion editorial? Who was the photographer? Catrinel: My first fashion editorial was for a teen fashion magazine and I remember being so excited to work with ……… one of the best photographers in Romania. I was so nervous, but everything went very smoothly. I was like “What’s this fashion stuff? I’m a track star”, because I was doing track & field at that time. I kind of started to like it afterwards because everything felt like a game of pretending to be someone else in front of the camera. Everything involves a bit of acting too. I’m actually pretty shy in my private life. The camera reveals my alter ego. Myra: I know that you worked with so many photographers. Who were some of your favorites and why? Catrinel: I can’t say I like one particular photographer. Throughout my career I have worked with a lot of talented photographers, more or less famous. They all have a unique

style. I guess in time I got more attached to the ones who I’ve worked with frequently as we tied great friendships. Myra: Which were the most memorable modeling and acting jobs so far? Catrinel: Being the official image and ambassador of Fiat Worldwide was a truly amazing and unique experience for me. As an actress it’s hard to say, because I always have so much fun on the set and I like to goof around with my colleagues. Those little clowny moments are priceless :) Myra: Do you ever get nervous before going on an acting set? Catrinel: Every time. I expect perfection from myself and I work hard to achieve it. Myra: How has your notion of what being an actress changed from when you first started? Catrinel: Oh wow, I think I’ve learnt so much in the past 5 years and there is so much more information to absorb from this industry. Right now, I regularly take speech and language classes and spend more time on analyzing and researching a profile/role I have to play. Also, the acting technique is paramount to one who is serious about acting. Great acting is when instinct and technique are both in perfect balance transforming feeling into thought and words, and leaves the spectator reeling. I can say that I’m more confident on set now because of the knowledge I’ve gained through practice, so I look forward to delivering great

performances in the future.

inspiration to me.

Myra: Name an unforgettable set that you’ve been on. Worst or best…

Myra: Do you think the cinema work is a luxury?

Catrinel: “The Tale of Tales” … the scenography was just amazing .. a fairytale .. and the worst.. Hmm.. I am not sure I had one .. Myra: If you weren’t an actress, which other role or job would you have taken? Catrinel: I think I would dedicate more time to Catherinelle, my handbag brand or maybe to my artwork…or photography. I love to express myself through my work, that’s for sure, whether that’s through fashion design, painting or photography. Myra: What`s the city that`s closest to your heart? Catrinel: Rome. Rome has been my home for the past 5 years and it’s the place where I find my tranquility, my equilibrium, my inner self, my family, my love. Myra: Has anyone in particular encouraged, or inspired you? Maybe a photographer, a film director, or even another actress? Catrinel: I found my inspiration in all people I have worked with along the way in my career as a model and as an actress. When people come up with something extraordinary, it inspires me to come up with something more extraordinary. There are also people I look up to like Sophia Lauren, for example, who I got to know well as a friend. She has always been a good source of

Catrinel: Cinema is not a luxury anymore. Times have changed. Now it’s all a struggle to make yourself stand out in the pool of aspiring actors and actresses. It’s a lot of hard work behind this shimmering image that Hollywood is portraying to the world. Myra: Name a place you traveled to and would love to go back. Catrinel: it’s hard to decide. Let’s say Vietnam because it is a place I would like to visit again and also to get to explore more. Myra: What advice would you like to give our aspiring models? Catrinel: I think no other models could equal the success that the well-known supermodels of the 90’s reached. I mean if you want to make it in this industry you have to be out of this world. I see all these young models who can easily win a popularity prize thanks to the entire social media craze, but that doesn’t mean much, and that doesn’t make them supermodels. Be bold and have a vibrant personality. There are no standards anymore. Myra: I know that you are the official image of Feeric Fashion Days. What does this mean for you? Catrinel: It means a lot to me, because it gave me the opportunity to reconnect to my home country.

GRINKO FW17 Belief+ Doubt =Sanity The new GRINKO collection for next Fall/Winter 2016-17, almost, indeed, was a slogan to be recited and screamed in a procession, where, by reason of the purely experimental freedom, the designer praises with these three terms the equation of full consciousness, all the times in which in front of dogmas there arises reasonable doubts. Once again the work of GRINKO is going back to the typical neo-romantic themes, experimental and trend toward an introspective journey that mixes different levels and times, in a clash of eras and styles to their strident and in some respects conflicting aspects, such as the Victorian Time, with the Eighties punk, always, however, corroborated by a Japanese cultural heritage that has influenced the designer since his childhood. Certainly the iconic garment is the oversize bomber which draws inspiration from the London punk street styles, but it is revisited and elaborated through unique brocades inspired by nature from the ultramarine blue tones.

Yanina

Couture

Yanina Couture B Y M YRA P OSTO L AC H E

The heroin of Yanina Couture of SS16 Collection was a young girl — a romantic dreamer, inspired by passion for ballet. Ballet runs through every detail of the collection: weightless dresses with piles of ballet tutus, and hats, like those worn by Anna Pavlova and Ida Rubinstein in 1910’s, embroidery, taffeta, veil, tulle and velvet. In the contemporary cultural context the newly refined and gentle image of a Russian girl is actual again. That is not outspoken beauty, but restraint, intelligent, aristocratism and dreaminess. The collection has a strong cultural base: literature, painting and ballet. From painting, we took diffuse, smoky gamut with smooth passages, from ballet – weightless dresses and movements of semitransparent layers, from literature – intelligent dreaminess and clarity of images. Our dresses are like flowers fallen from the stem… That`s the way fashion illustrator Georges Barbier characterized the great ballerina Anna Pavlova in the 20’s. Love for Russia and France is joined together: our heroine is brought up on Russian classics and the French novels simultaneously, loves impressionist paintings and Diaghilev’s “Russian seasons”. The collection has become a kind of dedication to these historical and aesthetic links between Russia and France with a declination of colors from pearl grey to powdery pink. Perhaps the image that mostly inspired me while I was creating the collection was “The Swan Princess” by Mikhail Vrubel. Especially it affected the final “wedding” image: elegant pearl- grey fabric and a silver veil, a cloud of shades and reminiscent of wings embroidery – all that was inspired by the mysterious, mesmerizing image of The Swan Princess. The bird image has always been a landmark for Yanina Couture fashion house, and as this collection is largely devoted to the ballet, this bird is surely a Swan. It`s the fragile princess, “the dying Swan” Anna Pavlova or Maya Plisetskaya, pastel silhouette from Serov’s sketch for the ballet “Les Sylphides.” By the way, the first image of the collection will become that of a swan: a friend of the brand, beautiful Deborah Hung will appear in a gown of white feathers with a red ruby at her heart. The story told in this collection turned out to be very personal. It is in some way autobiographical: love for ballet, and the fascination with Russian art and French Impressionists, and romantic reverie… on the other hand, these are things that are very recognizable, understandable and loved by many people. I think this language is clear to everyone. I am pleased that the ideals of beauty of the past are actual again. The collection contains many references to the past: classical 19th century that is the century of aristocratic culture, and the 1910’s and 20’s, when the Russian emigration flooded Europe. At the same time, we stripped our dresses of excessive historicism and adapted the aesthetics pleasing to us under the modern requirements.

MANISH ARORA HELL’S BELLES Fall-Winter 2017 _

Fresh from being appointed Chevalier de l’Ordre national de la Legion d’Honneur, Manish Arora is in celebratory mood for Autumn Winter 2016, and wanted to show the collection in his local neighbourhood to celebrate his love for Paris. On a lost highway through the dark heart of America, the scene opens on our heroine for Manish Arora AW16-17 – a prairie pioneer with pop overtones. Dressed in a dusty palette of earthy, sandy tones and motel room beiges shot through with signature Arora pink in fuschia and fluoro, coats are embroidered with swirling studded horsemanship details. Our cast comprises an eclectic and mysterious assembly of characters straight out of a David Lynch film, from bar-room belles in mesh neoprene ruffles to wranglers in rodeo embroidered denim, emblazoned with wagons, cacti, horseshoes and hearts:- Twin peaks on haribo. The Autumn Winter collection’s list of players includes cameo roles by famous Paris faces and friends of Arora such as Ellen Von Unwerth, Chantal Thomas and Debra Shaw. Denim features heavily throughout, reworked in multiple versions:- enzyme wash stencil-printed denim, laser-cut leopard print hand-brushed denim, studded denim cowboy shirts and jackets embroidered with guns and roses, topped off with bandanas, cashmere scarves and trompe l’oeil guitar handbags. Classic Americana from cowboy dressing to mid-west mall style is subverted with African underpinnings – patch-worked African wax-print fabrics and tribal embroidery adorn draped capes and billowing prairie skirts. Things are not what they seem – surreal prints of fantasy mountain landscapes disguise hidden illusions:- heart lakes, horse clouds, cat mountains and faces hidden in embroidered flowers. Leopard print is re-imagined using laser-cut tweed patch-worked and embroidered to re-create the classic animal print, or hand-stitched in black and pink sequins for a femme fatale version. For the final scenes of our day-glo western, our cast gathers in the intimate back rooms of smoky bars and smoldering saloons filled with melancholy jazz where dark secrets are forged for the season ahead.

S c e n a r i Sp o s a M i l a n o Scenari Sposa stems from its founder Francesca’s desire to establish an up-to-date room, in which her conception of glamour and temperance is performed by the brightness of a happy lady. Francesca juxtaposed the most famous national brands with those of very fine stylists, capable of reformulating the bridal conception in the nowadays overall context of quick and deep evolution.

5 B r i d a l B e a u t y R u l e s Ev e r y B r i d e Sh o u l d Kn o w Want to look like the most gorgeous version of yourself on your wedding day? Of course you do! Commit to these 5 wedding day beauty rules for a more polished, put together you. 1. I Will Play Up My Best Feature! You know your best feature. Maximize it! Accentuate radiant skin with fresh, dewy makeup; open up gorgeous eyes with a few loose false lashes instead of a whole set; or find the perfect lip stain to enhance your smile. Even if you never ever wear makeup, consider your wedding day the exception. A bit of mascara, blush, and lip gloss goes a long way in making your features stand out in wedding photos. 2. I Will Rock A Gorgeous Smile! This will most likely be impossible not to do—but we had to put it in here because, honestly, there’s no easier way to look more beautiful. For a mega-watt smile, consider whitening your teeth a month or so before your wedding. Dentists remain the source for the most dramatic whitening results. In-office bleaching treatments can help remove stains to make teeth that are five to seven shades whiter. Depending on where you live, costs begin around $400 for in-office bleaching. But overthe-counter teeth-whitening systems are very effective, too. Most whiten teeth by a few shades. 3. I Will Stick To A Skincare Routine! A solid skin care regimen is important in everyday life, but the months leading up to your wedding are a great time to start pampering your skin. (After all, photos last forever!) Not sure where to start? Make an appointment with a dermatologist six months before your wedding to help iron out a solid skincare plan. At the very least, make a promise to yourself to cleanse your face before bed, and invest in a good moisturizer with SPF. 4. I Will Have Kissable Lips On My Wedding Day! Take care of your lips ahead of time and not only will you not have to worry about dry or chapped skin, your lipstick will glide on easier. Start prepping at least week before the wedding day by exfoliating (look for a lip exfoliator or lip scrub). Also, if you aren’t already, make sure you’re using a chapstick or lipstick with sunscreen to avoid sun damage! 5. I Will Find a Veil That Works With the Shape of My Face! Figuring out the right veil and hairstyle combo can be tricky. Here’s the bottom line: With hair and veils, width adds width and length adds length. If your face is round, pick a narrow veil or hairstyle; if your face is long, choose one with more volume.
