TheEditor: Re: Booze in Port Moody parkshitsa hiccup (Tri-City News, Aug. 11,2022) I have just readthearticle in your Aug. 11paper about theproblemsshared by a resident withallowing alcohol consumptionin Port Moodyparks. Iwholeheartedly agree withthat residentthat allow ingdrinking ofalcohol in any Tri-Cities parksis going to causemore problems thanit is worth. IliveinCoquitlamand I wroteto mayorand council sayingI stronglydisagreed withallowing thispractice in ourparks. It will certainly cause more litterinthe parksand possibly causedisruptive behaviour by thosedrinking that couldaffectothers in the parksthat arethere to justenjoy the outdoors. Thecomment by the Port Moodyparks managerthat the Port Moody Policedid not objecttothenew bylaw doesn’tmeanthey were even awareoftheupcoming changebecause if they were awareIam sure they would have found valid reasonsto object toit. And saying that other municipalities have adopted allowing drinking alcohol in someoftheirparksisnot a valid reasonfor just going along withwhat theyare doing. Inmy opinion, drinking inparksisa recipe fortrouble andshouldnot be allowedinanyTri-Citiesparks if you wantthemto be safe and enjoyable for allthose whousethem. Thank goodness,in Port Moodyandin Coquitlam, theyare justtesting outthis new bylawuntil next spring andhopefully both municipalities will reconsider Jeannine Silvestrone Coquitlam Aletterwritersaysallowingalcoholinlocalparks isn’tworththeproblemsit mightcauselikemorelitter.
