Thesebarriersareeven higherwhenpovertyisalso afactor.

Povertyisarealityfor almostonemillionpersons withdisabilities.

Andpovertyisnotanaccident.Itislegislated.

TodayinCanada,there isnonationalframeworkto protectthebasicneedsof peoplelivinginpoverty.

Thatneedstochange,and thatiswhereBillC-22comes in:TheCanadaDisability BenefitAct.

Currently, theHouseof Commonsisconsidering thisBillthat“aspires”tolift personswithdisabilitiesout ofpovertybuthasnodetails onhowitwilldothat.
