Butyoudon’tslapthemwith afine.
There’sbeenalotof gunviolencerecently.Is Coquitlamasafeplaceto live? Yes,buttheLower MainlandandNorth Americahavefacedacomplicatedrealityofgangviolence.Ourcommunityhas seenlessofitthanothers,
butwe’renotimmune.I reallywantthecourtstosup portthepoliceeffortstodeal withgangviolence.There arecourtdecisionsthathave madeitmuchmoredifficult toprosecuteviolentcriminals.
Whenyoufirstranfor mayor,youpromised Maillardvilleyouwouldget ridoftheHellsAngelsclubhouse.Whyisitstillthere? Thelawdoesn’tsupport policeandthecommunities theyserveintacklinggangandorganized-crimeactivity.Localgovernmentshave fewtoolstotacklecrime.The actualclubhousedoesn’t havealotofexternalimpact ontheneighbourhoodother thanitsexistence,butits existenceisimportanttome. Idesperatelywishitwasn’t there,andIwishIhadthe toolstomakeitgoaway.
WhenwilltheFremont Connectorbebuilt? We nowhaveanagreementwith theCityofPortCoquitlam. Theconnectorisn’tin Coquitlam.Itwasplanned 40yearsago,butPort Coquitlamoptedforadifferentroute.Iwishthatprovinciallegislationallowed usmoreflexibilityonhow wefundit.WeneedPort Coquitlam’ssupportingettingitbuilt.About150years ago,thefoothillsofBurke Mountainweredesignated forhousingandweneed thatroutetotakeawaythe impactsonneighbourhoods inPortCoquitlam.
