pecial pets need a special team to care for them. In 2001 Dr Leah Montgomery took over the Shaughnessy Veterinary Hospital and began building such a team. She realized a dream in 2016 by opening the Tri Cities first and only veterinary clinic dedicated to the specific needs of cats. At both clinics, the staff is dedicated and compassionate and you can be confident your pet is receiving the very best care and attention. The Meadow Brook Cat Clinic is a Gold level certified Cat Friendly™ Practice and the staff at both facilities are Fear Free™ Certified.

The doctors at the Shaughnessy Veterinary Hospital offer not only traditional medicine and surgery but are also trained in acupuncture and chiropractic treatments. Chronic painful conditions such as arthritis can be managed with our therapeutic cold laser and massage. Feel free to give either clinic a call for more information, or stop by to ask for a tour. We’re proud of what we have to offer and welcome you to our family.

At the Meadow Brook Cat Clinic you and your kitty will be relaxed and comfortable knowing that everything there is designed for cats - no noisy or smelly dogs to upset anyone and the exam room is closer to a room in your house than a clinic.

elcome to Canada!” These were the first words spoken to Lynn when she moved to Vancouver in 2013. Born and raised in Belgium, Lynn always wanted to live one year abroad after finishing her Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology. That became a slightly different story when she met her future-husband in Ypres, Belgium, a Canadian soldier traveling with the British Columbia Regiment. Her plan of a one-year visa grew into permanent-residency, and will soon aim for Canadian citizenship instead. Lynn became a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in the BCACC in 2014 and started her own private practice soon after. Additionally, she was employed as a Mental Health Screener and Addictions Counsellor within the BC prison system. However, James was also an RCC, and the goal was to open their own wellness clinic, providing different health services to clients. Lynn officially opened Aster Wellness Centre on Shaughnessy Street in Port Coquitlam two years ago. Driven, passionate, excited, and adventurous are some of the words that fit Lynn the best. In two years, the Centre was able to expand services, and now consists of Registered Clinical Counsellors, a Naturopathic Doctor, Registered Massage Therapists, Registered Dietitians, and Certified Bowen Therapists. You will see Lynn and the Aster team at different events in the Tri-Cities as community-involvement & support is a priority to the Centre. Lynn’s passion focuses on those clients who are struggling with symptoms of anxiety, depression, immigration related issues, and

Laura Grist relationship-challenges. Because of her move to Canada, she has experienced firsthand how difficult immigration can be, and can fully empathize with immigrants who are stressed during their transition to the community. During her spare time, you will find Lynn in the mountains with her husband, her Havanese dog, Pippa, and friends. She loves nature and the outdoors because that is her free therapy and her self- care. On top of that, she has always loved to be involved with multiple travel-projects in Africa. She recently returned from a volunteer-program in Kampala, Uganda, and in other years, Lynn has also worked in an orphanage in Mombasa, Kenya.

urning a dream into a reality always sounds like a cliché…. But for Laura Grist, it was the only outcome that was imaginable. The dream was to be able to build a house at age 8. Now life gets in the way of achieving goals, but fortunately for her, it was a detour that only lasted 32 years. After raising her four children who grew up in Port Moody with husband Bruce, she decided at the ripe old age of 40 to go back to school. From the first moment of schooling, it was a love affair with Interior Design that is only surpassed by her 3 grandchildren. Building a business in the Tri-Cities for the last 10 years has been Laura’s greatest accomplishment. Starting out on her own and slowing growing her business, the team at Laura Grist Interior Designs has now grown to include 2 full time Interior Designers, Ashley Levett and Katelyn Thompson, and we have rounded off the team with an Interior Decorator with 15 plus years of experience, Laurie Soul. It truly makes the boutique firm of Laura Grist Interior Design a full service Interior Design firm that takes you from “Concept to Completion” ! Specializing in AutoCAD drawings, RCP, Permit Drawings, Material Lists for every aspect of the renovation or new build, we pride ourselves in NEVER repeating the same look twice so that every home is unique to the client and every commercial property is a reflection of its owner.

The team has won the GVHB design for the Best Renovation for Kitchen and Great Room 2018 and the HOUZZ award for service five years running. We look forward to new designs and more awards coming from this successful group of women. Located at 16 Shoreline Circle – 604-724-2551

homa Doehring has been the owner of your local Benjamin Moore Tri-City Paint & Design for the past 27 years. Many in the community remember her first store over in PoCo Place Mall (from 1992-2010). She then moved over to Oxford Connector from 2010-2018. Now, Tri-City Paint & Design has settled on Ottawa Street, right near Costco and Save-on-Foods. Just like many families, as Tri-City Paint & Design has moved over the years, their family has also gone through much growth and many changes. The face of retail has changed and with so much

competition, corporations and big-wigs moving into the neighbourhood, the team at Tri-City Paint is proud to see how our community sticks together, supports local and supports one another. This matters because community matters. Women in business is about more than just the one person. It’s about the community, it’s about family and it’s about the internal and external systems in place that support our rise and our vision.

There are many wonderful women on our team that have helped make Thoma’s business run smoothly and that advise their customers on ways to make their house feel more like a home. They have literally and figuratively done some heavy lifting for the Tri-Cities. We feel honoured to be able to help you make your house feel more like your own. Wishing you a day filled with love and gratitude for the women in your life, just as we are for the women in ours.

ongratulations to all mothers, daughters, sisters and friends for yet another successful year in business! I can say that as a woman in business, this year has certainly been one of change, growth and excitement. As Co-Owner and Managing Broker of one of the largest real estate brokerages in the Tri-Cities, Pitt Meadows/Maple Ridge and now Surrey areas, I understand the need for all three. We at Keller Williams Elite Realty focus on a culture where our agents can find balance in their lives by working smarter…not harder.

One of our proudest accomplishments is RED Day when our entire company (177,000 plus agents worldwide) cease operations to focus on giving back locally. In previous years our offices have worked on restoring the gardens for patients in palliative care, completed a total yard renovation and pool installation for a group home for the developmentally disabled, cleaned up the Coquitlam River and surrounding parkland and partnered with Ruben’s Shoes to collect over 2000 pairs of gently loved shoes for shipment to third world countries for children in need.

We host education programs in our onsite training centre for agents at all stages of their careers. Keller Williams is the #1 training company in the world and we want to make sure our agents have access to the very best. If you are considering a career in real estate, want to attend one of our classes or even lend a hand for Red Day, give my office a call at (604) 468-0010. kwelitecanada Keller Williams Elite Realty

ired of your dog not listening to you? Do you want to work on building your relationship with your dog but the thought of another Obedience Class just doesn’t thrill you? Then Scent Work might be the answer. I’ve worked with dogs for almost 20 years and I understand how challenging working with a fearful, anxious or unfocused dog can be. Dogs need a job. Scent Work taps into your dog’s natural seek and searching abilities, providing incredible mental stimulation which in turn, tires your dog.

OUTDOOR KITCHENS

You know the saying, “A tired Dog is a Good Dog?”

Denise McIntosh

Our dog’s daily lives are completely directed by us. We tell them when to eat, when to go out, when to sleep, when to play, and how to behave. The focus of Scent Work classes is first and foremost, fun for the dog and fun for the handler!

D

enise established Genesis Kitchens in 2007 after being part of the design industry since 1994. Denise maintains an active presence within her community supporting local sports teams, multiple charities and the Austin Heights Business Improvement Association. Specializing in Architectural Millwork, Denise found her passion in Kitchen design. Her dream was to create a company that took the evolution of the kitchen from design concept to a finished product that clients will enjoy and appreciate for years to come. Genesis Kitchens offers a complimentary in home consultation where they combine their client’s esthetic choices, needs, and lifestyle within the function of their space. Denise is not stopping there she has now brought on two Outdoor Kitchen cabinet lines and has taken the functionality and design of the Indoor Kitchens outside.

Our dogs are the experts when it comes to Scent Work and for a change, they are in the lead, while our job is to learn to read them and ultimately, become their students. Scent Work is a great skill to harness in your dog that can build their confidence, provide physical and mental stimulation and reduce environmental sensitivity through teamwork with their handler. Little to no Obedience is required and dogs take their turns one at a time so even shy or “Reactive” dogs can play! Unlike some other Dog Sports, Scent Work is suitable for most ages and physical capabilities, (Canine and Human) as there is no running or extreme physical exertion required. Scent Work helps insecure dogs build their confidence and high energy dogs learn to focus and is a Fun and Exciting way to enhance and strengthen the wonderful bond that you already share with your dog! or years, women have been told that the construction trades are no place for them. One of Sandra’s priorities is to change that message. As a Coordinator for the BC Centre for Women in The Trades (BCCWITT), Sandra’s role is to lead, mentor and collaborate on countless initiatives. While encouraging and supporting women in the trades through her speaking engagements and political advocacy, Sandra’s main focus is on retention and advancement of women in the skilled trades. “I wanted this job so I could do more work for women.” As a Red Seal Electrician for over 20 years, a Board member at the Electrical Joint Training Committee (EJTC) and a Co- Chair of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 213 Women’s Committee, Sandra wants to see respectful workplaces and equal opportunity in the workplace.

D Women going into the trades often leave while still apprentices due to barriers such as discrimination, harassment and bullying. “I am passionate about breaking down cultural barriers — specifically, the barriers that have prevented women and other underrepresented groups from entering, excelling at, and ultimately enjoying the rewarding careers in the trades.”

hese sisters have been resurfacing sundecks together for over 6 years. Keeping it all in the family, their father, a spouse, a cousin and friends are who make up the hardworking NewPort Dry Deck Team.

The McKinney’s decided that homeowners, like them, would want a coating that would first and foremost, be waterproof and last. After resurfacing decks for friends, word started to spread. NewPort Dry Deck was born!

They were frustrated that deck recoating only lasted a short time. After a lot of research, they found a better solution.

Keri and Laura take a lot of pride knowing family homes will remain protected from the elements for well over 20 years.

They discovered polyurethane. The family was pleased that they could seal around wooden railing posts and bond to the stucco siding, without it having to be removed. They even coat stairs!

Their deck surfaces last and last. Every year they replace 100’s of worn out vinyl and fiberglass decks with their unique waterproof coating, OmegaStone.

OmegaStone is a water based, troweled on polyurethane coating. It’s seamless, easy to clean, and it doesn’t rip, tear or stain. “I love doing the estimates, booking the jobs, then having my sister and crews work their magic. Whether it’s the deck, stairs, railings, or garage floors, the transformations are beautiful! “We are passionate about what we do and it shows. Getting to work with my family is the bonus” Keri McKinney, Owner. No maintenance, seamless, durable...Decks that Last, and Last!
