Keith Michael Maurer HAUBSTADT — Keith Michael Maurer, 67, of Haubstadt, passed away March 22, 2019, at 11:07 a.m. at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, from leukemia. He was born Aug. 12, 1951, to William “Bill” and Lillian Maurer in Haubstadt. He was married on June 1, 1974, to Karen Helfrich of Haubstadt. Keith worked 30 years at Old Ben Coal Mine and worked for Starnes Trucking. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus in Haubstadt. Keith loved family, friends, cold beer, long conversation, and playing Clabber. He was, and always will be, an avid fan of Notre Dame football and Los Angeles Dodgers baseball. He loved being a grandpa to Kenzi, Lexi, Maddux, Lyla, Madden, and Demi. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Karen (Helfrich) Maurer; his daughters, Laci (Chad) Potts, Bridget Maurer, Noelle (Aaron) Scott; mother, Lillian Maurer; siblings, Tom (Donna) Maurer, Terry (JoAnn) Maurer, Jane Ann (Rodger) Cox, Susan (Larry) Schmitt, Dennis Schmitt, Alice (Fred) Blankenberger, Julie Maurer, Kelly (Amy) Maurer, Kent (Erin) Maurer, Traci (Scott) Lewis, and Julie (Tim) Rexing.

Wanda (Passwater) Stewart ROCKPORT, Ind. — Wanda (Passwater) Stewart, 86, of Rockport, Indiana died March 30, 2019, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Rockport. She was born Sept. 24, 1932, in Oaktown, Indiana, the daughter of Rex and Shirley (Cox) Passwater. Wanda was a graduate of Princeton High School and attended the Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was an ordained minister through the Church of the Nazarene. Her Christian faith provided the underpinnings for everything that Wanda undertook as a wife, mother, grandmother, and active leader in her church, Holy Mount Church in Leavenworth, Indiana. She worked as a caregiver for the developmentally disabled until retirement, and earlier in her life she and her husband, Orville, also were foster parents. She enjoyed gardening, making quilts for her children and grandchildren, and bird feeding. Many family members, friends, and acquaintances benefited from her kindness when she reached out to provide assistance during illness and other difficulties. Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Stewart, who died April 20, 2007. She is survived by her children, Lois (Michael) Heady of St. Louis, Missouri; William (Kathy) Stewart of Hawesville, Kentucky;

Linda (William) Brown of Bloomington, Indiana; Scott (Annette) Stewart of Houston, Texas; Lori (Jeff) Love of Owensboro, Kentucky; and Raymond Oldham of Evansville; 16 grandchildren, 27 greatgrandchildren; and three sisters, Ruth Stewart of Monett, Missouri; Rosemary Powers of Princeton; and Jane Laster of Mount Carmel. Erma Hardiman Johnson PRINCETON — Erma H. Johnson departed this earthly life on Feb. 28, 2019. She was the youngest daughter born to Luella M. (Stanley) and James Edward Hardiman on April 24, 1917, in Gibson County. Erma was the last survivor of the family, at the age of 101. Erma spent her childhood, teenage and young adult life on the family farm located near the Lyles Station Community in Gibson County. It was there she learned the value of work, self-reliance, how to steer a straight course in life, and many of her positive qualities were enhanced by her parents and grade school teachers whom she dearly loved, respected, listened to, obeyed and never, never let them down. Erma attended the Lyles Consolidated Grade School and graduated from Lincoln High School in Princeton (1933) at age 16. During the Great Depression and as a Depression-era teenager growing up in tight circumstances, Erma never gave up dreaming of going to college. She enrolled and continued her academic career at Indiana State Teachers College (currently known as Indiana State University) Terre Haute, Indiana, where she earned BS and MS Degrees of Science in Education. At an early childhood age, she joined and grew up building a good Christian foundation in the Wayman Chapel AME Church Lyles Station. As a young adult, she worked with the children in Sunday school, church and community activities. Serving her country during the Korean War (1950-53), Erma packed bullets for one year at the Chrysler Plant in Evansville for our American troops engaged in helping the South Koreans. Her first teaching assignments were Inman, South Carolina for one year and Elkhart, Indiana for one year. The highlight of her teaching

PRINCETON — David Matthew Phares, 37, passed away March 15, 2019, in Downers Grove, Illinois after a short battle with cancer. David was born Oct. 15, 1981, in Terre Haute, Indiana. Donna Marlene Finney (DeJarnett) Mason EVANSVILLE — Donna Marlene Finney (DeJarnett) Mason, 82, of Evansville passed away peacefully Monday, March 4 at the Deaconess Linda E. White Hospice Center. She had suffered a massive ischemic stroke on Wednesday, Feb. 27. Donna was born in Princeton in 1936 and after being named Princeton High School’s Homecoming Queen in her senior year, graduated in 1954. She married and is preceded in death by Donald R. DeJarnett, Sr. She is also preceded by her eldest son, Donald (D.J.) De Jarnett, Jr., and her mother Beulah Pearl Finney. Donna married James H. Mason of Princeton, in 1974 and resided on Top Hat Rd. until relocation to Northern Vanderburgh County in 2014. Jim only recently preceded her, passing in July of 2018. She worked for 20 years and was branch manager for the Old National Bank (formerly Gibson County Bank) of Princeton. Donna worshipped at the Hillside Methodist Church of Princeton, was active with friends, travel (she loved the Florida Gulf Coast) and her family. An inveterate shopper, Donna loved to look for style and bargains everywhere she went. QVC will miss her. Nonna, as she was affectionately called by the nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, was a loving, doting grandmother, mother, and wife. Easy to laugh, but always having an insight and a solution to an issue, she was the person her family turned to in need of advice and direction. Mrs. Mason is survived

by her brother, Thomas, of Dumfries, Virginia; his two daughters Kerry and Laurel; her son, Kent DeJarnett of Monroe, North Carolina; his wife, Leslie and grandchildren Mason, Graham and Cale; grandchildren K.J. (great-grandchildren Savannah and Braelyn), Bradley (spouse Jaclyn) and Danielle Clark (spouse Chris, greatgrandchildren Lilliana and Chris III); grandson Trey (Donald R. DeJarnett III), his wife Emily of Fenton, Michigan; and his mother Shawn DeJarnett of Alpharetta, Georgia; step-daughter Jenifer Heidi Mason Gruelle of O’ Fallon, Missouri (spouse Russell, grandchildren Rachel and Joseph). Mary Frances Moore EVANSVILLE — Mary Frances Moore, 86, of Evansville, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Owensville on March 13, 2019. Mary was born on July 30, 1932, in Lewisburg, Tennessee to Dewey Bell and Nellie Vernon (Dixon) Jett. She was a loving wife of 38 years to Howard Moore and a caring mother of four daughters, Donna Weightman, Wanda Ivie, Virginia Bright, and Linda Oliver. She loved spending time with her 15 grandchildren and her 29 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Erica Christine Richey PRINCETON — Our loving daughter Erica Christine Richey went to her heavenly home early Saturday, March 16, 2019, at the age of 30 years old, surrounded by our family in Bowling Green, Kentucky. She is the daughter of Kimberly and Joseph Richey formerly of Princeton. She is the oldest of three daughters. Erica is sur vived by her parents; her two younger sisters, Mikayela and Alexis; her grandparents, Steve and Tina Riley and Ellen Richey; many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandfather Gerald Richey Sr.; grandmother Sandra Riley; great-grandparents Marguerite and Alvie Stewart; great-grandparents Edsel and Jean Riley; and her ser vice dog Ella. Erica was born in Princeton on May 3, 1988, and accomplished so many great and amazing things in her short life. She graduated from the University of Phoenix with her associate’s degree in Finance and she was four classes away from gaining her bachelor’s degree with a 4.0 GPA, all while battling continuous health problems. Dorothy Anne (Guller) Kelley OWENSVILLE — Dorothy Anne (Guller) Kelley of Owensville, passed away on her 88th birthday on March 23, 2019, at 4:24 a.m. She was born at home in Gibson County on March 23, 1931, to Alma Compton and Jewel (Tootie) Guller. She graduated from Griffin High School in 1949. Dorothy was a working woman and loved all of her jobs. She worked in the Owensville Cafe and Doc’s Place for 24 years and was the custodian of the Owensville Community Center. She is well remembered and loved for driving bus number 8 for the South Gibson School Corporation for 45 years. She was also the chairman of the Owensville Watermelon Festival for eight years. She finished out the last 19 years of her working career at the Walmart in Princeton. Dorothy was also a member of Maumee General Baptist Church. James Edward Hutchinson LEESBURG, Fl. — James Edward Hutchinson “Hutch”, 79, of Leesburg, Florida, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019, at Tavares Hospice House in Tavares, Florida. Jim was born in Spurgeon, Indiana on July 28, 1939, to Edgar Hutchinson and Lillie Davis Nixon. Jim graduated from Oakland City High School in 1957. He graduated from Evansville College in Evansville (presently known as University of Evansville) in 1961 with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing & Business. Jim was employed by General Motors in Louisville, Kentucky after graduation, owned an auto dealership in Sebree, Kentucky, then ostriches and emus after early retirement.
