Pie Guys’ Pizza is open in Clemmons. Robert Wiley founder of Pie Guys’ Pizza and More had a lifelong love and fascination with pizza and the dream of having his own restaurant. This quest started with family Friday nights out for pizza at a small shop in Hanes Mall. The quest continued to a narrow alley in Naples, Italy, then Cheeserich deep dish of Chicago and finally Manhattan’s finest NY style Pie. Pizza conventions in Vegas and home creations have helped to grow this passion. There is history, art, science and most of all passion in our pies. Pie Guys’ Pizza is open... BARK FOR LIFE A CANINE EVENT TO FIGHT CANCER

Cancer has affected nearly all of us in some way, either personally or through the struggle of a loved one. When you and your loyal canine companion get involved with the American Cancer Society Bark For Life, you are helping save lives! Bark For Life is a dog walk event that gives dog owners (and the dogs that love them!) an opportunity to come together to raise funds to help the American Cancer Society save lives and create a world with less cancer. Every dollar you raise will help the American Cancer Society do the most for everyone in every community touched by cancer including those who are currently dealing with a cancer diagnosis, those who may face a diagnosis in the future, and those who may avoid a diagnosis altogether thanks to education and prevention. This year’s Bark For Life of Guilford County will be on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at Country Park in Greensboro, NC. Join us for an unforgettable event where we’ll come together with other canine owners to help save more lives from cancer! Event time: 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM, Shelter # 1. Pre-Registration fee for this year’s event is $20 per dog (up to two dogs), which

includes an event t-shirt for you and a bandana for your dog (along with goody bags for the first 150 canine registrations). DayOf Registration will be $25 per dog. (Please note that pre-registration is required to guarantee receipt of an event t-shirt and bandana.) Don’t have a dog? That’s okay! You are still welcome to come out and enjoy the festivities with us! We have a Human Only registration option as well (Pre-Registration is $10; Day-Of Registration will be $15) which still includes an awesome event t-shirt for you! Plus, if you come out and join us you just might find a furry, fourlegged companion to take home with you since we’ll have several local rescue organizations there along with dogs currently available for adoption. Day-of registration will begin at 9:00 AM and the event itself will kick-off at 10:00 AM. It will be a day full of fun, vendors, raffles, silent auction, contests, and most importantly, a day full of celebration for our four-legged friends that provide such amazing companionship to us! Please visit our event website to sign up and find out more about plans for this

GIVES BACK TO THE COMMUNITY by Gary Jacques

Reel Seafood Grill, located at 2002 New Garden Road, Suite 208, in Greensboro, offers a unique customer experience, specializing in fresh seafood. Reel Seafood Grill has been serving the community since 2013. Owners Steven Stern and Todd Benton are at the restaurant daily with a hands-on approach, ensuring top quality customer service and food. They credit their great staff for their success over the years in addition to the seafood selection and oyster bar they offer. Stern describes Reel Seafood Grill: “We offer a full plate, a great meal, and a quality customer experience.” The restaurant supports the community every month. On the first and second Tuesday of each month, 10% of food sales go to a local charity. Live music is featured. Previous recipients include Sanctuary House, Hospice and Palliative Care

of Greensboro, and Cone Mammography Scholarship Fund. In November proceeds will go to The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and in December Urban Ministry Potter’s House will be the beneficiary. Todd Benton has been focusing on the wine program, offering a monthly wine dinner. The next wine dinner is on Tuesday, November 21. Reservations are required. Steve Stern takes pride with their made from scratch menu and fresh seafood. Steve even goes to the local farmers markets in order to feature local vegetables and produce as much as possible. Every entrée is made to order from scratch & can meet special dietary needs, including gluten-free dishes.

Bell Tower Honey Brown

from...

By Timothy G. Beeman II

I tried the new Bell Tower Honey Brown from New Sarum at Dogwood Hops & Crops and thought it was darn good. New Sarum is no stranger to my podcasts, either. I’ve had the guys on The Less Desirables as well as Sipping NC: The Art of Drinking. The brewery gets its name from the English town of New Sarum, which you may know today as Salisbury. And, since New Sarum Brewing is in Salisbury, NC. The name fits. New Sarum brewery hit the scene in 2012 and we’ve tried their 142 Blonde Ale (with grits), Hurley Park Blood Orange Wheat, Roundhouse Robust Porter, Old Stone House IPA and High Rock Red Ale. The Bell Tower Honey Brown, though, is new and a limited edition. Don’t worry, Dogwood has plenty. To me, the Bell Tower Honey Brown was more like a porter. It was a bit thicker than usual and tasted a little more roasted than a typical brown ale. That’s okay because porters are my favorite style. It’s brewed with wood fire-toasted almonds and honey made locally in Rowan County, NC. The ABV is higher than typical brown ales, too. It sits at 8.6%. Not a bad thing, at all. Just make sure you’re where you’re going if you’re going to have more than one. Overall, it’s a good beer and another winner from our friends over at New Sarum. I’ll rate it 3.75 pints out of 5. Slàinte mhath!

Dogwood Hops & Crops Delivers! another, then you can mix and match them as you see fit. It just needs to meet the $15 minimum criteria. There will be a discount for complete six-packs, too. If you get a six-pack of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, then there will be a discount for that. The exact discount hasn’t yet been determined.

By Timothy G. Beeman II

My favorite season for beer is fall and my fOn November 1, Dogwood Hops & Crops will realize one of the major dreams its owners had when they opened earlier this year. It was the intention, all along, to offer a beer and wine delivery service, not only for downtown, but for the surrounding areas, as well. To implement this, Dogwood is launching an app for smartphones to order your libations. “It will be just like ordering a pizza,” says Adam Andrews, co-owner of Dogwood Hops & Crops.

There will be 85 different beers to choose from as well as 20 wines. These are just starting numbers, too. As demand grows so will the number of choices and so will the delivery area. When the app launches the maximum distance will be 10 miles from downtown Winston-Salem. Delivery times will be from 4pm until 10pm Sunday through Thursday and 4pm until 1am Friday and Saturday nights. There is a $15 minimum order with no reasonable maximum. Delivery fees will also be added to each delivery. The cost of the delivery fee will be dependent on distance from downtown Winston-Salem in the delivery area. Adam said that the maximum delivery fee should be around $5. You will be able to mix and match six-packs. If you want two of one brand or kind of brew, one of another, three of

“The plus,” says co-owner Austin Ridge, “other than not having to leave your house, is the beer and wine will always be cold and ready for imbibing when it arrives. Just pop it open and enjoy.” Of course, the wine is dependent on style as many reds aren’t refrigerated.

There are stipulations that must be followed, however. The orders must be prepaid via credit or debit card – all major impressions are accepted. The receiver of the goods must be 21 years of age and show a valid ID. The recipient must not be inebriated. And, the big one, only one delivery per address per day. This is important to note because if you are creating an order and have roommates, you need to make sure you all have what you want in that order. If you order yours and your roommate decides they want to place an order a few hours later, then tough luck Chuck. Why does Dogwood think this is a big business move? Adam explains, “We want people to shop local and buy their beer and wine from local folks, not from big chain grocery stores. Keep it here.”

The app will be available on iOS, Android and Windows platforms. You will be able to get your app and find out more about the program by visiting Dogwood Hops & Crops website: dogwoodhopsandcrops.com. Dogwood Hops & Crops is located, along with The Trophy Room Bourbon Bar, at 517 N. Liberty Street in downtown WinstonSalem.

Order up and drink responsibly.
