Words from the General Manager
The Chinese New Year is a highly anticipated annual event. The China Club is proud to present our CNY Set Menus that will immerse you, your loved ones and your guests in a memorable festive feast. Our range gives you a choice from the bountiful to the lavish – and every set menu has been crafted to remind us of the rich symbolisms in a Chinese meal. For example, fish or 鱼 (yú) is a must-have dish because of the saying, 年年有鱼 (nián nián you yú), meaning “yearly, we will have fish” – portraying the abundance of food for a family. This is also a homophone for 年年有 余 or “yearly, we will have money”, signifying a prosperous new year. 年糕 (nián gāo) is another important dish. The rice cakes symbolise 年 (nián), which means “year”, and 糕 (gāo), which sounds like “high” in Chinese. So the idea behind eating this dessert is to have a lucky year, where one can scale great heights.
Noodles represent longevity, which is why it remains a staple of Chinese New Year dinners. The longer the noodles, the better! The wine is 100% from Wilyabrup sub-region. The Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc are sourced solely from our home block on Caves Road. The wine has a beautiful combination of pear and passion fruit on the nose. The palate is clean and crisp with lime, citrus and melon. The wine shows the beautiful dark red colour. The nose is reserved, but already has good depth and complexity. The wood is well integrated under the characteristic notes of fresh red fruit, dominated by blackcurrants. On the palate, the attack is robust and dense, with the wine developing lots of volume. The fruit maintains a good presence. The overall impression is already very well balanced. The wine confirms its elegant, fresh style. The tannins, although still young, are silky.

This wine is made with fruit from the Frankland River Region of Western Australia, which produces wine with great richness of flavour. A lovely perfumed bouquet of blackberry and spicy cherry. The palate is luscious with mulberry, plum and hints of black pepper, supported by soft subtle tannins. Aged in French oak for twelve months, this wine will benefit from cellaring.
