Meet Expectations with Improved Service Structured cabling acts as the nervous system for your network delivering data from the brain of the network to all of the ancillary locations and back. Fast and efficient data collection, storage, transmission, and evaluation make it possible to deliver effective patient care in an industry where time is money and can also mean a matter of life and death. Healthcare providers are being pressured to improve the quality of healthcare while drastically reducing their costs. In response, we see a higher adoption of electronic medical records, wireless wearable medical devices, and telemedicine. With this increased adoption of technology, the number of users requiring network access to manage patient records, monitor clinical applications and communicate with patients and colleagues around the world is increasing, stressing current networks and challenging future network design.

CHALLENGE 1
Demand for More Ports in Limited Space Hospitals often find their space for communication cables and ICT rooms too limited to accommodate for the increasing number of information ports that are necessary for their “going digital”. This leads to high port density and, in turn, difficult maintainability that besets IT personnel of these hospitals.
This difficulty is addressed by Panduit’s innovative physical infrastructure solutions. • Standard Compliant 28 AWG Small Diameter Patch Cord • Horizontal/Vertical Cable Manager • Colour Variety for Patch Cords and Modular Jacks • Angled Patch Panels • Labelling Solution
Such a high-density system may be four times as dense as a traditional cabling system, and addresses MAC (Move, Add, Change) in high-density environments. Refer to Chapter “Telecom Room” for details.

Safety and security Patients must be safeguarded in medical institutions where much people stay. In case of a fire, they must never be choked or poisoned by any combustion fume of cables and their route of evacuation must be unblocked. Panduit’s IEC-compliant LSZH (Low Smoke and Zero Halogen) cable series, which are halogen-free and low toxic and generates little gas, are recommended for hospitals. Panduit also provide a full range of UL-listed fire-resistant cables, including general use (CM), riser (CMR) and plenum (CMP) cables. Each IT professional has to find a way to secure information on the physical layer of networks in outpatient halls and other venues with many pedestrians. Panduit provides tamper resistant faceplates, water resistant faceplates, jack blockout devices, plug lock-in devices and irregular outlets and patch cords to physically prevent unauthorized access to ports or unauthorized removal of patch cords. This not only avoids human-inflicted network failure or downtime, but also network intrusion and computer viruses.

Angular patch panels are most advantageous in eliminating horizontal cable managers. Traditional cable management requires a horizontal cable manager for each horizontal patch panel. In normal applications, one 1RU or 2RU cable manager has to be mounted for each 1RU patch panel, wasting 50%66% of the horizontal mounting space in cabinets. Using angular patch panels working with vertical cable managers for cabinets/ racks, horizontal cable managers are no longer necessary. 1U 48-port angular patch panels for copper cables or 1U 144-fibre
Angular Patch Panels
Angular patch panels are the most typical solution to increase patching density in cabinets of 2m rating in telecom rooms where the space is relatively limited.
angular patch panels for fibre cables even provide four times greater patching density than traditional solutions. Thanks to the angular design, patch cords naturally bend to both sides and those on a same elevation are aesthetically arranged into a fan. Eliminating the constraint of horizontal cable managers, all patch cords are presented to the manage personnel, enabling more direct and convenient MAC.
14
High-density cable management With angular patch panels
considerably increasing patching density in cabinet space, it becomes challenging to manage cables in such a limited space in an orderly manner. MAC is difficult in cabinets at many data centres where cables are densely packed because customers have intentionally used angular cable managers to increase patching density. Depending on cable density, we provide vertical cable manager options of 6”, 8”, 10”, and 12” in width for rack systems. Vertical cable managers of 10” or 12” are recommended for side-by-side mounting, and those of 6” or 8” are recommended for the sides of rack rows. Panduit’s vertical cable managers/fingers come with unique technologies as below to house, protect, and manage cables more easily and effectively. ●
The vertical cable managers are equipped with fingers of
a semi-circular cross-section so that cables can enter the managers along arc routes to maintain their bend radius and protect their electric performance. The fingers are spaced with one another in line with the mounting spacing between cabinets/racks, providing cables in and out of each RU with supports and clearances to enter vertical space.
●
Patch cords are usually selected at a longer than necessary length to provide allowance, installation and future
maintenance are prevented by cord slack packed in
vertical cable managers. In fact, normal management and
maintenance are often disabled by the cords tangled in
the managers. PEV Series of Vertical Cable Managers
may be equipped with spools which wrap up cord slack
in “8” patterns to provide aesthetics in compliance with
international standards for coiled cords.
PED Series of Doors working with PEV Cable Managers
can be opened to the right or left, providing installation and
maintenance personnel with easy and unlimited access in
two work faces.
●
In addition to vertical cable
management, Panduit also
develops patch cord troughs
for routing in or between
cabinets. 2U, 4U, and 2U
patch cord troughs are
recommended for the top,
waist, and foot of cabinets/
racks. To lead patch cords
from the top left part of a
cabinet to its lower right part,
the route should begin at the
vertical cable manager on the
left, through the patch cord
trough at waist, end at the
vertical cable manager on the right. This easy and orderly
routing eliminates cords out of way.
All patch cord troughs may be combined into an intra-cabinet routing system for inter-cabinet routing. Inter-cabinet patch cords are routed along intra-cabinet patch cord troughs instead of running along floors or ceilings, streamlining the work face and providing considerably convenient routing.

Consolidation Points (CP)
A consolidation point is an enclosure in an open work area. Usually consisting of one or more patch panels, it receives horizontal cables from telecomm rooms and connect them to work area outlets. Its cross-connection from the telecomm rooms should be at least 15m (50 ft.). A CP can be connected to up to 12 work areas (24 outlets). Once work areas are changed, all you need to change are the cables from the work areas to their CP without changing those from telecom rooms. This design is ideal for applications where terminal info points are prone to frequent changes.
