For your colleagues, we recommend a Thank You lunch or dinner, which can also spur them on for the next lap. Turn to page 5 and see how our event planners can help you organise the perfect feast of gratitude. With family and friends, celebrate Christmas or New Year’s Eve with a get-together, where our chef will be preparing specialties fit for the festivities. Turn to pages 9 and 10 to find out more about our special set menus for these occasions.

Aspiring Together Look out from the 52nd storey where The China Club is, and you will see that the once-busy Tanjong Pagar Terminal is now making way for a slate of new waterfront developments. This is representative of Singapore’s DNA: we have always been a city of change and progress. Apart from the country’s infrastructure, Singapore’s leadership changes are also on everyone’s mind. The fourth generation of political leaders will soon pick up the baton. They will inherit a Singapore that is more globalised and diverse than ever. The people – that is us – will also be savvier in using technologies and forming communities across borders. In other words, we have all evolved one way or another. So, even as the leadership style will have to change, so too will our role as citizens. We have witnessed how the city can be well developed in 50 years through our collective efforts – this should give us the self-belief that we can do better in the decades ahead.

Armed with the lessons and expertise that we have picked up over the years and from experiences overseas, we can be more involved citizens. We can contribute in areas needing solutions and imagination, where our impact can expand to benefit the entire nation. For example, Jack Ma’s e-commerce platform, Alibaba, began as an idea. It evolved into an ecosystem that paved the way for cashless payments in China, allowing the country to be a leader in digital transactions today. Jack Ma did not wait for his government to imagine the future. Instead, he went ahead and created it. Yet, to do this alone would be impossible. Great impact can only be created with great teams. We will need to aspire together. Change is only meaningful when it has the human element, where people help one another and grow together. As we come to the end of 2018, we want to celebrate teamwork and collective effort. And as we enter another year of change, it is assuring to know that some things are everlasting, such as the value of unity.
