Bountiful Blessings The Chinese New Year marks a new season filled with joy, prosperity and good fortune. It is a time to honour our parents, bless our children and gather our loved ones for a festive meal. The China Club is pleased to present our CNY Set Menus that are replete with delicacies specially created for this season. The Chinese culture is rich in symbolism, and our food echoes this tradition. Start the meal with the tossing of the auspicious yu sheng, a CNY staple, and choose from a variety of exquisite toppings such as lobster, abalone and sea whelk. Every ingredient in this vibrant dish carries meaning, from the shredded carrots that represent a stream of fortune coming your way (鸿运当头), to the sprinkling of ground peanuts that depicts a home overflowing with gold and silver (金银满屋). It is believed that the higher you toss the yu sheng, the greater your fortune, so roll up your sleeves and toss away!
Next, savour our CNY specials such as the Stewed Whole Abalone & Dried Oyster served with Pan-fried Rice Flour Roll with Preserved Meats, Pan-fried Fillet of Marble Goby served with Fried Five Grains Rice & Preserved Meats, and Stewed Dried Oyster & Whole Conpoy with Sea Moss. Then, end your meal on a sweet note with our pan-fried nian gao, a perennial CNY favourite. CNY is not just about prosperity but also the reunion of families. We warmly invite you to partake of this meaningful celebration at The China Club, with a panoramic view of our cityscape surrounded by our lush Oriental décor steeped in heritage. We look forward to having you and your loved ones with us.
CNY Closure: We will be closed from 5 Feb to 6 Feb 2019 for the festive season. We will resume business on 7 Feb 2019.

历 史
1819-2019: Remembering our History This year, Singapore celebrates 200 years of modern history—and we have much to be thankful for. When Sir Stamford Raffles first landed in this country, he was attracted to its natural deep harbour, fresh water supplies and timber. Our strategic location near the Straits of Malacca also meant that trade could flow easily between British India and China. He decided to establish Singapore as a free port, which attracted tremendous amounts of trade globally and brought on an influx of multiracial immigrants. Today, we are reaping the fruits of Sir Stamford Raffles’ vision. Singapore has been ranked the top maritime capital of the world since 2015. It is also the world’s second busiest port in terms of total shipping tonnage. From the 52nd floor where The China Club is at, you can view this important landmark in Singapore’s history—the vast piece of land at Tanjong Pagar Terminal where the old port used to reside.

NOW
The new port will eventually relocate to a bigger space in Tuas, equipped with better facilities to handle more complex shipments and chart new frontiers. This relentless pursuit of fresh ideas, improvements and excellence is the legacy left to us by our forefathers. It was through their hard work, perseverance and sacrifice that Singapore was able to transform from a third-world to the first-world nation that it is today. We have come a long way since 1819. But we cannot take our success for granted. In a state like ours, growth never stops. As Singapore embarks on its bicentennial year, let us remember the contributions of our pioneer generation even as we endeavour to soar our country to greater heights. Here’s to an abundance of wealth, health and wisdom in the coming year.

历 史 简 介
Did you know? The Singapore Botanic Gardens dates as far back as 1822. The idea was first conceived by Sir Stamford Raffles, who had built a garden near his home at Fort Canning to introduce the cultivation of economic crops. However, the garden languished after he departed from Singapore. It took 30 years before an agri-horticultural society founded the Singapore Botanic Gardens in Tanglin. Today, the Gardens is managed by the National Parks Board, and in 2015, it became Singapore’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site.
