Spotlight Adrian Jefferson Chofor
My name is Adrian Jefferson Chofor, I am a global mobility lifestyle expert helping people that want to live abroad and currently living abroad do so strategically and successfully. I am also a personal transformational strategist and speaker, helping those in my community to live their best lives. I had the privilege of co-authoring Step Forward and Shine! the third and final book in the Shine series and when I was presented the opportunity to write my story, I was inspired to do so because I thought about how when I was younger I wish I could have met a woman like myself that would have told me things were going to be alright. After prayerful consideration, I knew writing this book was something that I was called to do. I want the readers to know they can overcome obstacles, made stronger by the struggle, and love themselves for who they truly are, not what others may think of them. My book touches so many areas of my life, I would say this has broadened the range considerably. I delve into challenges I experienced as a teen that made poor choices, a twenty-something year old early in my career, a thirty something year old moving abroad and later having a difficult pregnancy. I share experiences that are universal and not age or gender specific, such as making major life changes in moving overseas or the power of forgiveness and its profound impact on my life and those of others. I would have to say, because of the subjects covered in my book, it’s difficult to narrow the audience down to only one demographic. S

Arlene Majors Dear Mom It is not often that I have to really sit and think about what to say about my mom. I don’t even know what my mother looks like right now. I know her small stature was never an obstacle. She was always a driving force in our family and got things done. My mother is who she is. One of 17 children born and raised in the bayous of Louisiana, Life schooler, Doctor of Theology, retired Lt Colonel, sister, aunt, grandmother and now great grandmother. I miss a lot of things about my mother, especially since my last conversation with her was over six years ago. Don’t feel sorry for me though. Communication may be lost but I have realized in recent months that I have learned that everything she taught me along the way still is a viable part of my life as I am now a grandmother myself and she still teaches me to this day. My mom taught me to be self-sufficient and to study hard. Both of my parents instilled in me a strong work ethic that I have passed on to my children. My mom taught me to cook and to take care of those around me. I love to hear my kids say it smells like grandmas in here! I get excited myself when I cook something that my mother or grandmother taught me and it comes out exactly like they would cook it! The kitchen was always that place to come together and my mom and I loved to cook! I see a lot of my mother in my children as well when they sleep or communicate or even laugh and joke. It is hard on all of us to be without the woman who had a smile to light a room. We grew up in church so many of the values I hold dear today are because of what my mom made sure our faith was intact and our spirits alive. I try not to get too sad when I think of my mom. I would give her a great big hug and tell her how much she has been missed these past several years. When I open up the bible that she gave me and read the words she wrote, I am reminded to be strong and know that God loves me. I pray often that my mom can hear my words and get the urge to pick up the phone and say hi. Mom, if you get the chance to read this, I love you no matter what and I am glad you are my mom!

Aldridge Louise G. Morris
When I think about my mom, I think about the words of Susan Polis Schutz. “The relationship between a mother and daughter is comprised of a very deep understanding of and support for each other. It is based on an enormous amount of emotion and love. It is no other relationship in the world where two women are so much like one.” “Mom”, as I affectionately called her, had a heart of gold. I remember her using the bus to take food to a friend who was sick. Although mom was truly an adventurer, she never learned to drive. However, that did not deter her from visiting others who needed her help if they were not feeling well or hungry. She was loyal, dependable and punctual! My mother was a nurse by profession for more than 30 years, and retired from a state psychiatric facility as well as a private Catholic hospital. She was one of those people who would encourage you to reach for the sky when setting goals for yourself. She would coach and inspire all who had the pleasure of being in her inner circle as well as fellow co-workers. My mother expected excellence from me as well as her staff. She was always on time and never absent unless there was a real emergency. I can never remember her missing a day of work. She expected her staff to show the same loyalty to their job. At her retirement dinner, doctors and nurses credited my mom for their success! My mother and I shared a kinship that was so sacred. I sat by her side while she transitioned to a heavenly place. When relatives and friends wanted me to put her in a hospice, I wouldn’t. I promised to take care of her at home. I treated her the same way she would have treated me if I was dying. That is the special relationship I had with my mother, Louse Gloria Morris. When James Brown, (The Godfather of Soul), died in 2006, my mother was visiting me for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. We were watching the news when the report came through. Later that week, they announced that the private funeral and public memorial service would be held in Augusta, Georgia, his hometown. My mother inquired as to how far Augusta was from Atlanta. She asked if we could drive there to attend the memorial for James Brown. Without hesitation, we made hotel arrangements. My husband, daughter and I drove my mother to Augusta and we joined thousands of others who came far and near to memorialize “James Brown”! Not once did she complain about standing in line for at least two hours to get a good seat at the memorial service. Thanks, mom, for suggesting that we take that trip! That weekend we created a lasting memory for all of us. That was the kind of person my mother was. She was adventurous, tenacious and kind! God bless you mom!
