Cheer jokes, no more Ready? Okay! This is what you might think of when you think of cheerleaders. You may also think of cheerleaders at pep rallies and football games. But cheerleaders are not always at football games cheering on their home team, they also go to cheer competitions. The Granger cheerleaders recently went to a state cheer competition on Monday, December 8. The state cheer competition was held at the South Town Expo Center in Sandy. Kimmy Nguyen (12) said, “The competition was long and intense, she also says they took 4th place,” Kylee Cottermen (11) said, “There were many schools competing. Some that I remembered were Orem, Roy, Davis and Bountiful.” Overall the squad thought they did pretty well on their routine. Rannie Sinn (12) says, “I personally think I messed up, I don’t think the crowd noticed, but I feel I did pretty well.” To prepare for the competition Rannie says they have to practice at 6 a.m. every morning on A days, but in order to prepare for the competition, they came on both A and B days. They warm up by stretching and running about a mile, and after they practice their routine many times. Since the squad took 4th place in the competition, they were invited to compete in the Nationals. Kimmy said, “We might go to the Nationals in Las Vegas,- but the team has to decide if we want to go.” She is sure the team will want to go. Attending the National Cheer Competition is a big step for the cheerleaders. Based on last year Rannie feels they started off much better and are moving up a level higher.
