ANNUAL REPORT 2020/2021
“Inspiring Active Lifestyles”
Welcome Northampton Leisure Trust (NLT), branded Trilogy Leisure is pleased to publish its Annual Report April 2020 – March 2021. Trilogy provides value for money activities Trilogy is a dedicated Social Enterprise committed to making a difference and influencing change for the better in our Community. As a not-for-profit Charity and Social Enterprise, Trilogy reinvests its combined surpluses to deliver positive social change. Like many organisations, with the impact of COVID-19 this year proved particularly challenging for everyone involved in Trilogy Leisure. The national lockdown in March 2020 resulted in all facilities closing and Trilogy customer’s being denied access to the activities they enjoy week in, week out. As a self-funded organisation, the closure of Trilogy facilities resulted in financial vulnerability for the organisation. With zero income and the continued operational expenditure of keeping the buildings maintained, employees supported and related ongoing costs, managing cashflow became a priority. Trilogy adopted a diligent approach to keeping the business afloat April 2020 to March 2021. With a positive approach and constructive plan, the team minimised all expenditure, chased all available funding and financial support packages during this period. The key aims for Trilogy during this year was to remain financially viable, support its team, the Community and to engage with its customers. Although the organisation couldn’t open its doors to the public as usual, it launched a ‘Trilogy at Home’ webpage, delivering online physical activity programmes for Adults and Young Children to take advantage of.
2
The ‘Trilogy at Home’ webpage offered a comprehensive programme of fun online activities suitable for all levels, to get involved and keep active. This webpage was designed to not only engage with Trilogy customers, but anyone who wanted to get active, keep active and support their physical and mental health during lockdown. Trilogy responded well to the COVID pandemic. Through the diligent management of the business, it did not rely on any direct loss of income funding from the local authority and using its own financial reserves, Trilogy ensured it was not a financial burden to the local authority or the taxpayer. Although in a difficult position, Trilogy continued to focus on the positive work it could do to support the local Community. • In partnership with NCC and to support the current local situation NLT delivered Mass COVID Testing to the Public seven days per week. • During Covid-19 NLT has donated thousands of pounds worth of food stocks to the Hope Centre, Weston Favell Food Bank, and the staff at NGH. • All NLT facilities were certified as UK Active Covid-19 Response Approved, demonstrating that all facilities were nationally approved within a set of standards, developed in line with Government Covid-19 guidance.

The aim during this year was to get all Trilogy facilities reopen and all activities up and running, maintaining a safe environment for all employees, customers, and clubs. We did this at every opportunity in-between lockdown’s and once the final lockdown ended. Trilogy worked closely with UK Active, Sport England and Public Health to ensure that it delivered a COVID secure environment keeping both its customers and team safe when re-open. Once open the primary focus overall for the organisation was the business recovery plan, ensuring the company remained financially stable and could continue to provide the Wellbeing opportunities for the Community as always. Although COVID absorbed much of the organisations time, finances, and resources we still managed to retain over 50% of our Junior and Adult members, worked with partners to attract funding and maintained our company values and objectives.
We distributed donations of vending stock from across all our sites to Northampton Hope Centre, Weston Favell Centre Foodbank and for staff at Northampton General Hospital
DA N E S C A M P – C OV I D - 1 9 S U P P O R T • Working with Public Health Northamptonshire, converted the Sports Hall at Danes Camp and used as a COVID Mass Testing Centre • Trilogy staff were trained by Public Health and delivered the mass testing • Visited by Andrea Leadsom, MP
THRIVING COMMUNITES FUND Along with partners including Delapre Abbey Preservation Trust, Northamptonshire Sport, University of Northampton and Northamptonshire Public Health, we successfully applied for national funding to deliver a Green Wellbeing Programme to be delivered in 2021/22
After a challenging year it is important to recognise and thank the excellent support from our strategic partners and Company Members, including Northampton BC (now West Northants Council), Duston Parish Council, Northampton General Hospital, Northamptonshire Sport, University of Northampton, and Northampton GP Alliance. Thank you also to the Trilogy Team and the Board of Trustee’s for their hard work and commitment throughout 2020 / 2021, working closely together to keep Trilogy afloat during this interesting year. We are now focussed on a positive, bright future working with our partners to continue to support the Wellbeing and Social Value within our Communities.

2020/21 was a tough year for Trilogy with three lockdowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic and being unable to be open for months at a time. We adapted well during the closures, setting up Live Online Classes and Activities for all age groups, accessible to all, to enable our customers to remain active. Our Instructors and Coaches during lockdown were outstanding, delivering the classes and activities from their own homes.

We have 12 Company Members and 11 Trustees. Our Board of Trustees are volunteers who support the strategic direction and governance of the Company, which is led by John Fletcher – Managing Director.
During the times we were able to be open we followed all government guidelines and were accredited as UKActive COVID-19 Response Approved. We ensured our facilities were as COVID safe as they could be with a hyped-up cleaning regime and regular deep cleans. We ensured all pieces of equipment in the gyms were socially distanced, moving some of the equipment into the sports halls and dance studios to ensure our customers had the space to work out safely. We reconfigured our booking system to take into account that all gym and swim sessions had to be booked in advance. We adapted our Studio Programme, making it more flexible and showcasing our most popular and sought-after classes. Classes moved into the Sports Halls to allow for more space. We also maintained the Live Online classes for those who were yet to feel comfortable about returning to our facilities. Over 50% of our members stayed with us during this difficult year. We thank them for that and really appreciate their support.

HEALTH & WELLBEING DEVELOPMENT The Wellbeing Development team deliver activities to support the Trusts facility-based provision, as well as out working with the different communities across Northampton. The outreach work sees the team delivering activities to a wide spectrum of ages in the deprived wards of Northampton. The team is continually recognised on a national scale and was regarded as an ‘Excellent’ team using the Quest Assessment process between The team faced many challenges during 2020/21. Despite the challenges, regular communication was maintained with all of the team including coaches and volunteers as well as with partner organisations. During lockdown, the team turned to our social media platforms to deliver a wide-ranging engagement programme with all customers from the very young through to older adults. The team have regularly communicated awareness messages in respect to personal health and wellbeing including support for people suffering with their mental health, with several members of the team completing a Mental Health First Aid course in order to become ‘mental health aware’. In between lockdowns the team successfully relaunched a number of impactful programmes including: 50 plus activity days, Activity on Referral, Trilogy Gymnastics and Football Academies and our Ofsted registered holiday playschemes. The team also carried out the preparation work for the return of the health walk programme, falls prevention and the Northampton Street Sports Programme in April 2021. Furthermore, they worked hard with partner organisations to attract important external funding to ensure that work could continue post lockdowns. The team continues to believe in continuous improvement and will be using the experiences of the past twelve months to help shape the service of the future. 8

2020/21 witnessed a big switch to more social media marketing campaigns, advertising and for keeping our customers informed. During lockdown we focussed on ensuring our customers remained fit and healthy. Via Trilogy Facebook we streamed live classes and activities for all age groups, including P90X, Insanity, Healthy Hearts, Body Combat, Dryside Aqua, Sh1ft Family Fitness. Anyone could access these classes. At the peak of lockdown our Facebook LIVE workouts attracted more than 1,000 views. In addition, we also set up a Members Only Facebook page and delivered more classes such as Yoga, Pilates, Piyo Fusion, exclusive to our members and giving them more options to work out at home. We posted information on: how to stay fit & healthy, mental & physical wellbeing, how to relax, recipes for different meal options; to name just a few.

SOCIAL MEDIA/MARKETING We launched Trilogy at Home, on our website. A free resource developed during lockdown open to everyone, with access to online workouts, family activities and links to mental health resources https://www.trilogyleisure.co. uk/trilogy-at-home/ When we were able to open our doors again and welcome back our customers, we posted our COVID Safe information on our website and via all our social media platforms. We produced and posted Welcome Back to Trilogy videos. Feedback from our customers was phenomenal. Obviously due to only able to be open for 4 months of 2020/21 our carbon footprint decreased dramatically due to less energy usage throughout the year.

However, it is also due to being far more vigilant on energy usage and recycling whilst we are open. Across all sites we are being far more energy efficient and using more and more recyclable materials. During 2021/22, with funding provided by West Northamptonshire Council, we will be replacing old plant and machinery with that which is far more energy efficient and sustainable.

THE TRILOGY TEAM During the pandemic and the multiple lockdowns and periods of furlough during 2020/21, ensuring our team were fully informed and trained at all times was paramount.
Communication We set up the Trilogy Team Web Site to enable clear and up to date communication with the team while we were in lockdown. All members of the Trilogy Team were emailed with the latest Team information prior to the site being updated. The site provided all with up to date information relating to: • The workplace and actions the business took to overcome the effects of the pandemic, keeping them informed at all times on how and when we could re-open and they could return to work • Support Services such as; Counselling, NHS Information Wellbeing Advice including Mental Health • Keeping Active at Home • Help to Manage Finances • FAQs • Free Online Training and Return to Work Training
THE TRILOGY TEAM Training All members of the team received specific Return to Work training, a mix of online and socially distanced face-to-face training prior to their return to work. Some of the training was refresher, e.g. Safeguarding, and some was COVID safe specific training. Our priority was to ensure all our team felt safe, informed and prepared to return to work. During lockdown we were also able to deliver NPLQ Team Training online, with additional pool assessment and competency sessions in place when we were able to be open. This was to ensure any member of the team on Lifeguard duties were 100% ready to resume normal duties.
Thank You to Our Team, Our Customer and Our Partners Our team members had a rollercoaster year, in and out of furlough on 3 occasions. We are proud of the way our committed team members adapted to the constant changes, how they dealt with the new working procedures and how they adjusted and worked with passion to ensure we were able to deliver a fantastic customer journey. We also thank the small, core team who worked tirelessly throughout the year keeping the business afloat; ensuring staff were paid, bills were paid, staff and customers were communicated with, ensuring our facilities were maintained when closed, planning for reopening on more than one occasion, applying for and obtaining funding.
Team Trilogy – Thank You A massive thank you to all our Customers who stood by us during this difficult time. A sincere thank you to our strategic partners for their support and who worked with us to ensure we obtained the crucial funding needed during a difficult trading year.
Trilogy Team Members were able to use the site to provide feedback, ask any questions, and to stay in touch.
