Inspiring Lives. Themed Inspiring Lives, the latest annual report for Esplanade – Theatres On The Bay presented a once-a-year opportunity to showcase a full calendar’s worth of events at one of Asia’s finest arts venues. The five senses were employed to bring the theme to life, along with the bold use of the centre’s corporate colours and a well-balanced selection of pictography and typography. Having been awarded the project on the basis of the concept – “I close my eyes yet I still see” – key visuals featured a kaleidoscope of scenes throughout the year projected onto people’s faces. These unique encounters with the Esplanade serve as inspirations kept alive through memory.

Year of the snake “Ang Bao” A N TA L IS SI N GA P OR E
Shedding the old, welcoming the new. Finding inspiration from the patterns & textures of the snake, the year of the snake “Ang Bao” commissioned by Antalis was designed with no gluing involved to form. Not forgetting the importance of showcasing Antalis papers, patterns were formed using diecut, fold lines, hit stamping and single but multiple percentages printing. Using 2 different papers, we wanted to symbolize the “shedding the old, welcoming the new.” Details include having the Red Packets packed together in a casing that opens up like a snake mouth. May the year of the snake reveal great opportunities in abundance.

Gastronomical excellence. Another new work recently completed for the three F&B outlets at Four Seasons Singapore. The tired look of their current menus were spruced up while retaining the essence of the brand. The menus were updated in luxuriant gold to dark bronzed hues and featured the logos of each restaurant debossed in metallic ink. Sensuous details add to the sumptuous yet unified look and feel across the different F&B establishments.

The re-launch campaign garnered tremendous success and positive response from both media and customers.

Lotus Tealight Holder T R I N E D E SIGN A S S O CI AT E S
A beautiful experiment. Created using intricate laser-cutting on paper, the Lotus Tealight Candle Holder is the result of an experiment to explore form, material and construction techniques. Inspired by the beauty and resilience of a lotus flower blossom, the structure of the candle holder comprises of three rings of petals. Each ring of petal can be removed individually to use as a standalone tealight candle holder; or can be stacked together to form a single tealight candle holder - which resembles a delicate blossoming lotus flower. The floral motif on each ring features traditional Chinese, Indian and Muslim art respectively. These three cultures form the majority of Singapore’s melting pot of culture and heritage. Symbolically, the lotus flower represents a wish for peace and hope for Singapore.

Own the Original. Chinese New Year is a season of giving and receiving. Many businesses take the opportunity to send gifts to their clients and business associates as a form of well wishes. For SC Global, a luxury property developer, an opulent silk covered hand-made box was created to contain customized red packets made of special suede flock material. The bold modern palette consisting of bright magenta and cyan lends a surprising touch of unconventionality to the brand whilst use of traditional Chinese floral motif throughout the packaging design conveys a sense of Chinese heritage to complement the season. Delivering absolute piece of mind. UltraVault is a dedicated safe depository facility based in Singapore with branches in Geneva, Hong Kong, London, New York and Zurich. Every aspect of its operations is designed to ensure the utmost peace of mind and the ultimate customer experience in storage and handling of their valuables. UltraVault branding was inspired by the composite structre of graphene, which is the thinnest yet strongest metal known to man. Each brochure is crafted with a cover letter that is addressed to the specific customer, giving a personal touch which reinforces the bespoke touch of UltraVault.

Postwar and Contemporary Masters from Ai Weiwei to Andy Warhol. The exhibition presents some of the major names among Western postwar and contemporary artists. From Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Frank Stella to Damien Hirst, Joel Shapiro as well as to the internationally recognized generation of Asian artists such as Ai Weiwei, On Kawara, Yayoi Kusama, Yasumasa Morimura, and Takashi Murakami. A great American master, Jasper Johns, is represented with twenty-one original prints including four new editions, exhibited for the first time. The exhibition provides the art community of Singapore and a general audience with a rare glimpse of the range and diversity of postwar and contemporary masterpieces.

The craft of dessert making. Singapore’s artisanal dessert cafe brand - Sunday Folks opened a pop-up experience in partnership with Kerry On at Jing An Kerry Centre from August to October 2018. Planning started 8 months earlier with location scouting and space planning. One of the main citeria was to recreate a similar experiece as the Singapore outlet and given the pop up was only going to last for 2 months, a lot of considerations had to be considered given the constrains of not just the location within the mall but also the equipment and furniture needed. To prepare the audience for this pop up, we came up with the liner: “Sunday Folks, The Shanghai Experience.” A throwback to the concept & philosophy of Sunday Folk.

The craft of dessert making. Sunday Folks also created 10 exclusive ice cream flavors for Shanghai. Ranging from Singapore’s favorite breakfast Kaya Toast, Thailand’s famous Mango Steamed Glutinous Rice to heritage ingredients such as Malaysia’s Gula Melaka to Japan’s Akai Miso, we hope to create an unforgettable ice cream experience for the audience and let them discover new flavors from around the region. There will also be a very special flavor for Shanghai inspired by an iconic sweet that almost every local child grows up with. Though the duration of the pop-up may be limited to only 2 months, Sunday Folks & Kerry On team worked together to recreate the complete experience. From sourcing of quality ingredients locally, creation of exclusive new recipes to the on-site kitchen for the Shanghai audience to savour our signature offerings of small-batch produced, freshly churned premium ice creams & freshly baked Belgian waffles.

The craft of dessert making. In a market where competition is intense, perhaps the most important consideration for the pop up to succeed was to navigate the complex social media outlet in China. Creating brand awareness of our prescence during the 2 months pop up. Invitations to the relevant media outlets and writers to come by and have their first hand experience of watching, tasting and understanding what Sunday Folks brand is about. Sessions were specially conducted to allow them to experience the hand crafted process from the making of cones, waffles to the toppings and ice cream that are made fresh daily in our onsite kitchen. To complete the brand experience, we partnered with a local Singapore furniture brand, Commune to showcase their furniture as part of the setup, added local creative books and design publications to complete the Sunday Folks experience.

Intergritas, Fiducia et Intima Brand identity for a private art & Investment company that specialize in personal and intimate investment services. The coat of arms design was based on the family history & tradition with the unicorns symbolizes strenght, intergrity and trust.

Done for Blueprint 2011 campaign, and made from a single diecut on a uncut sheet of paper (91 blades to be exact), we managed to create more than 30 variations for our photoshoot key visual. Trisha Lamp (aptly named after my little girl) was the result from this lovely experiment. Sometimes the simpliest idea could be bourne out from a blank sheet of papaer.

Brave new world. Blueprint 2011 sees the inaugural collaboration between the international fashion event and Trine Design Associates for the creation of its campaign. We conceptualised the theme - ‘Brave New World’ to mark the start of a brave new world for the emerging fashion designers handpicked from around the world to be showcased at Blueprint, new in the sense that are new challenges to be faced and opportunities to be seized for the freshly minted future stars of the fashion world.

Brave new world. A three-dimensional paper installation was also built for thes et of the photoshoot and the campaign visual features a model delicately emerging from the sculptural forest and dressed in an avant-garde clothing. The campaign visual evokes a sense of timeless beauty and yet conveys a bold character of progressiveness – a reflection of Blueprint’s 2011 fashion collection. The sculpture consists of arrangements of cut paper in its purest form – the intentional lack of finish and improvisatory nature create an interesting interaction between the subject (model), the clothes and the texture, plane and volume of the paper during the set. Trine’s use of threedimensional space and paper sculpture is an experimental exploration of fashion photography through the marriage of art, design and fashion. The paper sculpture installation was also exhibited at Blueprint 2011, Marina Bay Sands Convention Hall on the 19th to 22nd May 2011.

Handcrafted desserts & freshly churned ice cream. Sunday Folks is an independent dessert café based in Singapore and nestled in a quiet corner of the neighbourhood of Chip Bee Gardens. Its name takes inspiration that one could enjoy a moment of laid-back Sunday vibe - to savour a tête-à-tête over handcrafted desserts such as fresh churned ice creams, Belgian waffles, cakes, and specialty coffees. From the selection of premium ingredients to the making of homemade toppings, a lot of pride is taken in concocting their own original recipes while paying homage to the freshness and tastefulness in the making of desserts.

Handcrafted desserts & freshly churned ice cream. Using machines specially imported from Italy, churning freshly made ice cream out at a lower speed and toppings all made from their in house kitchen, Sunday Folks challenge the conventional methods of producing and selling ice cream setting the benchmark for the dessert scence in Singapore. Copper walls, Natural Stone Cippoloni from Italy and Ash wood were chosen as the main materials used in the interior of the cafe for their natural look and feel.

Handcrafted desserts & freshly churned ice cream. A lot of thought went into the design of the space, one of the main thing was to ensure as much natural light flows into the cafe by having as much glass windows as possible. And even though they surrounded by lots of greenery, we added additional green spots like the herb garden mainly because we strongly believe that plants not just breaks the hardness of a space, but they improves the scent in the cafe and also creates a sense of calmness.

The handcrafted look of the brand is reflected in the use of original hand calligraphy lettering, subtle details from descriptions tags visible upon opening, to wrapping the products with craft paper and sealing them with a 3D copper sticker of the mascot. The retail packaging was launched with the objective of reinforcing the handcrafted signature identity and brand positioning.
