DESIGN INTENT After the first two assignments, we finalise our ramp design with circular landings. This is intended to create a better flow of movement and better transition from one ramp to another. Our ramps have different portion of cutting into the landscape and filling to create a dynamic experience for the users. From going into the ground and emerging out of the landscape. We try to direct the ramp in different directions thus allowing the journey to be more interesting with the changing landscape. The highlight of the ramp is the black handrail which protects and also guides the users.

SUN-SHADOW STUDY

In general, there is not much difference between the physical model sun study and the 3Ds MAX sun study model as we did some research on Melbourne’s solar system while doing the physical model. However, there could be a minor human error in terms of the sun shading angles. Therefore, we believe that the 3Ds MAX sun study is more accurate.

From looking at the calculation, it can be seen that the proposed site volume has not been altered drastically with roughly 1000m3 decreased soil mass. This means that the ramp we designed has been effective in reusing the existing soil while accommodating our design intent, in which we have portion that cuts into the landscape and also protrudes out. However, with the excessive soil, we suggest to store it for other construction purposes.
