ASR [First Year] Election Guide First years will have the chance to vote for first year Association of Student Representatives candidates on Oct. 22 and 23 (Monday and Tuesday) from 11a.m. until 2 p.m. in Coates and from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. in Mabee Dining Hall. Most of ASR is elected in the spring, but four spots are reserved for first years. Each first year student can vote for four candidates and the candidates with the most votes will win. Each candidate was asked to explain their qualifications for being elected, their goals if they are elected, what they think the role of an ASR representative is, and to describe themself in three words.

Qualifications: I will always be there for the students and dedicate my time and efforts into the changes that need to be made.
Qualifications: I was the vice president of my high school band. I was also a member of the band leadership council for four years and section leader for two. Henna Jalal Qualifications: In high school, I was a Senior Leader of the Varsity swim team, active member of NHS, Officer Liaison of Diversity in Action,Senior Graphic Designer for the yearbook, a member of Students of Service and I was on the MHPD, which is a healthcare organization. Goals: I’d like to fix the laundry situation on campus. The washers, where I live, break down quite frequently and smell...In terms of food, I think there should be healthier options, as well as to-go boxes for Mabee...I also think that there should be clubs that would engage first-years. What responsibilities would you have as an ASR senator? Since I would be a first year, I probably wouldn’t have that much input. But, I would help give my opinion on the various funding that ASR does for different clubs and organizations. I’d also help address issues concerning housing, or dining, or whatever problems Trinity students face or would like to see fixed. Three words that describe you: Diligent. Visionary. Compassionate.
Sabina Lalani Qualifications: I’ve held a lot of leadership roles. I’ve been a Student Council member since the third grade; I was Student Council President in middle school, a choir officer, the basketball team Captain, Co-President of my high school’s Religious Student Council, a Youth Assistant Facilitator for a volunteer court, a camp counselor, and camp coordinator. Goals: I would like to be a go-to person for fellow freshmen and a liaison between administrators and students...One thing I’m particularly interested in is designing fun activities to help our freshmen class to get to know one another better. What responsibilities would you have as an ASR senator? I would vote on changes for campus and community involvement, allocate money to different clubs and organization, organize the budget for certain events, make decisions from feedback I get from students, and vote on what I think will be the most fun, while at the same time working with a budget. Three words that describe you: Compassionate. Responsible. Outgoing.
Kristy Hamilton Qualifications: In high school, I was on my school newspaper for two years, was a board member for a charity club, and was captain of the tennis team. These leadership positions were all very different from each other, so I have a good feel on how to work with different types of people. Goals: I’d like to work on bridging the social gap between people of different backgrounds and interests, as well as help people who live in different dorms get to know each other. But most importantly, I’d like to focus on making small changes that will directly and noticeably affect students. What responsibilities would you have as an ASR senator? An ASR senator should be a middle-man... [and know] that student’s needs come first and you should always do what it takes to make that happen. Three words that describe you: “Vote Kristy Hamilton,” because that’s what you should do!
Samuel Lee Qualifications: I was a member of student council for three years in high school. During my senior year, I was the Public Relations Officer … I was also a Varsity Cross Country and a track runner and utilized my leadership skills to lead workouts and practices…Lastly, I was a staff member of the Nebraska Association of Student Councils (NASC), a volunteer organization in Nebraska [that] promotes youth leadership for students all across the state. Goals: Even though Trinity is a university with a plethora of diverse groups and one that is very welcoming to students from various backgrounds, I feel as though there are still “cliques” on campus...there should be more activities/events that could help bring students together. What responsibilities would you have as an ASR senator? I would have to make sure I attend meetings on time and come prepared. Additionally, I would have to make sure that I carry out my assigned jobs in an effective, professional, and timely manner. Three words that describe you: Driven, Visionary. Creative.
