The Inklings was an informal literary discussion group that met to read aloud unfinished manuscripts for peer review. The group met in Oxford between the early 1930s and the early 1960s. Among the group’s most prominent participants were C. S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien and Charles Williams. The Inklings supported the value of the narrative and encouraged fantasy in writing.

The Hughes Main Library will host a special exhibit that includes original artifacts, first editions and letters of C.S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien and the other Inklings. Highlights of the exhibit include first editions of Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia seven volume series (including the book that inspired the upcoming movie, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader) and Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Christmas Ornaments
Join Dr. Hal Poe for an in-depth look into the life and literary progression of C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien and the other Inklings. Dr. Poe will share highlights from his two books, The Inklings of Oxford and C. S. Lewis Remembered. The lecture will be followed by a tour of the exhibit, including a question and answer session.
