INSURANCE MATTERS
Health Insurance The University requires students to maintain health insurance coverage. All students are eligible for care in Health Services regardless of their health insurance. To comply with the mandatory health insurance requirement, all students will be billed for annual coverage of the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) on the fall semester E-Bill statement each year. Declining Student Health Insurance Plan
AU G U S T
30
If students have health WEDNESDAY insurance coverage Student Health through another source Insurance Plan and want to decline the waiver due SHIP offered through Trinity, they must submit an online insurance waiver annually. The online health insurance waiver will be available beginning July 10 through Aug. 30 in the Applicant Status Page, through email, and at trinity.myahpcare.com/waiver.
A completed waiver allows students to decline coverage and have the charge reversed from the student account. If the waiver is not completed by the deadline, students will be enrolled in the SHIP and the corresponding charge cannot be removed.
Enrolling in Student Health Insurance Plan Students who plan to be covered by the SHIP with United Healthcare should enroll through the online waiver. Once students log in, they may select the green button for “Yes, I want the insurance.” By selecting this option, students can access benefits immediately when the term begins on Aug. 10. Students will receive login and waive or enroll instructions by Trinity email. Call Health Services at 210-999-8111 for questions. Online waivers must be completed annually. View more at trinity.myahpcare.com.

MOVE-IN
Move-in Day Advice
Move-in Day is Aug. 18, which kicks off New Student Orientation and Parent and Family Orientation. If you’re staying at a hotel the night before Move-in Day, please consider taking any priceless items (photos and keepsakes), electronics, jewelry, and other valuables into your hotel room rather than leaving them in a fully loaded vehicle. It’s best to play it safe. Label all of your boxes with your student’s full name and room number clearly visible. You’ll have volunteers helping unpack your car, so make sure they know where to take your student’s belongings.
Read about Trinity’s Move-in Day from a parent’s perspective at gotu.us/zicu4. Want the inside scoop on where to stay and what to eat while you’re visiting San Antonio? Visit gotu.us/sanantonio.

DINING
Meal Plans, Bonus Bucks, and Tiger Bucks - oh my! The 2017-18 meal plans include a combination of board meal points and discretionary declining balance dollars (aka Bonus Bucks), giving students the flexibility to eat at any of the Dining Services/Aramark locations on campus.
Meal Options Semester Meal Allowances provide a certain amount of full-access meals at the RFoC (Real Food on Campus) Mabee Dining Hall using board points that expire at the end of each semester. Board points are like vouchers used for an all-you-can-eat buffet style breakfast, lunch or dinner. One board point = one voucher.
board points, expire at the end of the academic year in May. Bonus Bucks are a set amount of funds included in most student meal plans and cannot be added to throughout the year.
Bonus Bucks are the second type of tender associated with a student’s meal plan. They are declining balance dollars that can be spent at any Aramark location on campus, retail campus cafes, convenience stores, the RFoC Mabee Dining Hall, and at the Skyline Room. Leftover Bonus Bucks balances carry over from the fall to the spring semester and, unlike any unused
Tiger Bucks is Trinity’s popular declining balance debit card program that is separate from meal plan funds, completely optional, and refundable at the end of the year. Students and parents can deposit funds into a Tiger Bucks account, which can be used at all on-campus point-ofsale devices and at several off-campus local restaurants. To manage their Tiger Bucks debit
account, parents and students can access GetFunds at gotu.us/tzi2a or on the TU Life app. Funds may be deposited online using a major credit card. Tiger Cards hold students’ semester meal plan, Bonus Bucks, and Tiger Bucks balances. HEALTH AND WELLNESS
Health Record Form and Bacterial Meningitis Vaccine Matriculating students J U LY are required to provide a Health Record including a recent physical exam, SATURDAY immunization records, and a tuberculosis Health Record form due screening. The Health Record form is available online at gotu.us/i74xx as well as on the Applicant Status Page. Please help ensure that your student has a physical exam this summer and returns the completed forms to Health Services by July 1. Texas law requires all new students to have the meningitis vaccination administered at least 10 days before and within the 5 years prior to the first day of class. The date of the meningitis vaccine must be included in the Health Record with either an official copy of the vaccine record or the signature of the health care provider verifying immunizations. The bacterial meningitis

physician, by appointment, for a nominal fee four days a week. When necessary, the nursing staff may assist in locating an off-campus physician who participates with students’ insurance. Students are responsible for fees associated with treatment obtained away from campus and prescription drugs. Services available on campus include exam and treatment for illness or injury, most vaccinations, laboratory testing, routine gynecology, and administration of allergy injections. Fees associated with these services will be at or near cost and payable by check, Tiger Bucks or billing of the student accounts. Health Services does not file insurance claims. More information about Trinity Health Services is available at gotu.us/healthservices.
Counseling Services Trinity has three mental health counselors who provide free, confidential, short-term counseling to more than 15 percent of students each year.
If students need longer term or more specialized care, Trinity will provide referrals to off-campus counseling professionals. If your student has a history of treatment for mental health issues, please call and consult with one of Trinity’s counselors to coordinate the student’s continuity of care. View more about Counseling Services at gotu.us/counseling.
Wellness Services Wellness Services develops and implements holistic educational outreach projects related to health and success to support students in all aspects of their maturation, growth, and development. Some of the issues Wellness Services assists with include mental health promotion and nutrition and fitness. Aside from group outreach, Wellness Services also offers one-on-one consultations as well as connects students to wellness resources, such as a registered dietitian and the Body Project (body image and self esteem program). For more information, visit gotu.us/wellness.
Student Fitness Students receive complimentary access to athletic amenities at Trinity’s Bell Athletic Center, including an aerobic fitness center, weight room, and dance studio. The Bell Athletic Center is currently undergoing a $15.3 million renovation that will, among other expansions and upgrades, double the size of the current cardio and weight facilities. Some students choose to also utilize the YMCA, which is within walking distance from campus. Student rates for twelve months (mid-August to mid-August) are less than $20 per month, for a rate of $234 per year. The YMCA will have a table at the Bell Athletic Center on Move-in Day for students interested in registering.
Student Accessibility Services Trinity University is committed to providing students with disabilities equal access to University courses, programs, services, activities, and facilities by providing or arranging accommodations, services, training, consultation, and technical assistance. If students have a
disability and will need accommodations while attending Trinity, they will need to register with Student Accessibility Services (SAS) by completing the SAS application and submitting appropriate documentation. Once these materials have been submitted, students need to meet with the SAS coordinator to discuss services available at Trinity. If students require accommodations which will require advanced planning, such as housing accommodations or extended time on placement exams administered during New Student Orientation, they are especially encouraged to contact the coordinator as soon as possible to assist SAS in providing these accommodations. For questions, contact Catherine Morell-Nickle, coordinator of Student Accessibility Services, at 210-999-7411.

Sexual Assault
AU G U S T
18
During New Student Orientation, students will attend a session FRIDAY on sexual assault and “Campus Clarity: bystander action. The Think About It” sexual assault program course due is supplemented with an online course titled “Campus Clarity: Think About It” that students must complete before they move onto campus.
PARENT GUIDE
This course will be emailed to students and will provide links to Trinity’s sexual assault policy and web page.
Bystander Action Trinity offers a bystander action program to teach students how to safely speak up and/or take action when they encounter problematic situations on campus, such as sexual assault situations and alcohol poisoning. Incoming students will be trained in bystander action during their first semester on campus.
Read about Trinity’s approach to safety, straight from a veteran with the Trinity University Police Department at gotu.us/zs4gc.
GETTING AROUND
Transportation About half of Trinity students bring vehicles to campus. If students are bringing their own vehicles, they may register their vehicles beginning July 5 by filling out the online vehicle registration form and selecting an annual ($75) or semester ($40) pass. Visit gotu.us/pxsb9 for more information. For students who don’t bring vehicles, there are plenty of options to get around the city: TU SHOPPING SHUTTLE: This free shuttle service is offered on select Saturday afternoons throughout each semester and provides rides to North Star Mall and Target. This service is sponsored by the International Student and Scholar Services Office. See more information at gotu.us/ftdn9. B-CYCLE: San Antonio B-cycle is a bike sharing program that spans more than 55 stations across downtown San Antonio. Trinity just added its own

TECHNOLOGY
Does your Tiger need to bring a computer to Trinity? Most students choose to bring their own computer for the sake of convenience and mobility. However, Trinity does provide many student computer labs around campus, so it is not an absolute necessity. The University does not sell computers, but there are discounts available for students that will help lower the cost.
What technology is available in the residence halls? Each room comes equipped with a cable outlet, as well as basic cable, HBO, and Cinemax. Students will need a TV monitor with a QAM 256 digital tuner and standard 75 ohm coaxial cable. Dish Network provides digital cable in HD and SD, and Philo IPTV gives students the ability to watch and record shows using mobile devices or computers.
14
Each residence hall’s phone and emergency broadcasting setup is different. Visit gotu.us/ rbz33 for more information. Make sure your student brings wireless capable devices or wireless cards because there are no ethernet drops in residence hall rooms. There is high-speed WiFi available in every dorm room - in fact, 95 percent of campus is Wifi covered!
Can students use campus printers to print wirelessly?
When visiting, parents can use the TUGuest wireless network, available to campus visitors without a Trinity network ID. Students will use the TUSecure wireless network, a secure connection available to anyone with a Trinity network login. Students will receive their Trinity login credentials over the summer, which will give them access to Trinity email (Tmail) and other applications like TigerPAWS and TLEARN. Tmail is a Google mail account, which includes Google Drive cloud file storage.
Tiger Bucks on your student’s Tiger Card are used to pay for print services at the University’s Ricoh Digital Print Center. Tiger Bucks are also the only option for payment at the Wepa print kiosks located in campus computer labs.
PARENT GUIDE
Trinity provides the Wepa printer system, which allows students to print remotely from their own devices anywhere on campus and pick up the printouts at a kiosk. Students cannot use personal wireless printers, so they should plan to bring a USB cable to connect their printer directly to a computer.
Where can a student turn for technology help? Residential Computer Consultants (RCCs) are available for consultation about viruses,
A Note on Student Records and Privacy The federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) dictates that Trinity University cannot release grades, advising information, or financial aid, student accounts or billing records to anyone other than the student unless he or she files a Student Consent to operating system issues, network connectivity, and more every weekday when classes are in session. They are located in the Student Computer Service Center inside the Witt-Winn Residence Hall, Room 042. For phone support, students can call the ITS Help Desk at 210-999-7409.
What are the system requirements for a student computer? Read through Trinity’s Information Technology Services recommendations at gotu.us/5r7pb.
Does a typical student need any other software or equipment? Some majors, such as computer science or engineering, might require the use of resourceintensive software, so students considering those majors should research the software (e.g. Matlab, Creo, Adobe Creative Cloud) and consider purchasing a machine with an upgraded
CPU, more memory, and the most compatible operating system. Keep in mind that this specialized software is available in the Academic Technology lab located on the first floor of the Coates Library and through a virtual desktop, so students can use Information Technology Services spaces to complete coursework. Trinity also offers select software and discounts. For more information, see gotu.us/ep475.
Who can I contact at Trinity with questions related to technology needs before classes begin? Reach out to the ITS Help Desk at 210-999-7409 or helpdesk@trinity.edu. Also make sure to visit technology.trinity.edu and view an easily searchable database with answers to the most common technology questions and learning resources.
Release Educational Records form. A copy of this form can be found online at gotu.us/h17kg. Additionally, requests must be submitted for all grade reports. If parents would like to request information directly from the University, the Registrar’s Office must have this form on file.
Please note that the University is also not permitted to disclose information contained in medical records or counseling records, so student visits to Health Services and Counseling Services will remain confidential.

Trinity enrolls students into a section based on their preferences from the Housing and Academic Interest forms. NEW INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ORIENTATION AND PARENT AND FAMILY ORIENTATION: Following International Student Move-in on the same day, international students and their parents will participate in sessions and events that address their immediate needs and assist them with adjusting to new campus culture in the United States.

NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION (NSO) AND PARENT AND FAMILY ORIENTATION (PFO): Beginning on Move-in Day, incoming students and their families will immerse themselves in the Trinity experience with information sessions, a Welcome Picnic, expert panels, and other activities. NSO is mandatory and runs through Aug. 22, while PFO is not mandatory, but strongly encouraged, and takes place Aug. 18-20. PARENT AMBASSADORS: This volunteer program is aligned with the Office of Admissions to utilize parents in helping recruit prospective Trinity students and their families. PARENT COUNCIL: Parent Council members create a welcoming community environment for new and returning Trinity parents and enhance the University experience for all students by working with career development, hosting and attending parent events, and demonstrating philanthropy. PATHWAYS: Trinity’s educational curriculum, Pathways consists of six requirements that provide a foundation in the liberal arts and sciences for all bachelor’s degrees awarded by the University. READING DAYS: Usually the two days before final exams begin, these designated study days give students time to prepare for exams without classes held or assignments due. RESIDENCE HALL: Trinity is known for having “dorms like palaces.” Students must live on campus for three years in residence halls. RESIDENT ASSISTANT: Resident assistants live in residence halls and sponsor activities to help students meet one another, guide students through advising and registration, and provide personal and academic support.
PARENT GUIDE
RESIDENTIAL LIFE COORDINATOR: These full-time professional staff members live in residence hall apartments and supervise student resident assistants. Reach out to residential life coordinators, not resident assistants, for questions and concerns related to residence halls. STUDENT ACCOUNT SUITE: This is Trinity’s online payment system that allows students and authorized users to view statements, pay online, and set up a payment profile for E-Refunds. TIGER BUCKS: Tiger Bucks are funds held on students’ Tiger Cards. Students can use these funds at any point-of-sale (POS) device on campus including dining facilities, bookstore, print shop and printer kiosks, campus vending, campus laundry, parking permits, Health Services, departmental fees, and at participating off-campus merchants. TIGER CARD: Trinity’s ID card, the Tiger Card grants access into campus facilities, including most residence hall rooms, and contains the funds used for meal plan points, Bonus Bucks, and Tiger Bucks. TIGERPAWS: Students use this web interface to search for and register for classes, view grades, GPAs, and transcripts, and log hours and view employment documents if they work on campus. TLEARN: Students utilize this learning management system to access specific materials, such as syllabi, articles, and assignments, for their classes. Some courses will also offer a grade book feature, which can be found on TLEARN.
