2019 FOUNDATION ANNUAL REPORT
Thank you
The Gourlay family have been strong supporters of Trinity College for more than 40 years, helping to fund programs such as Young Leaders, music at Trinity, and the Gourlay Visiting Professor of Ethics in Business. The family’s support provides numerous opportunities to our students, alumni and the wider business community, and for this we are incredibly grateful. In February 2020, we opened a modern 100-room residential building in the north-eastern corner of our Parkville campus. Combined with our generous scholarship program – which we plan to grow to become the largest college scholarship program in Australia – even more students will now have access to the Trinity experience. Professor David Tan (TC 1991) made a kind donation to support the arts at Trinity, so we are pleased to unveil the David Tan Visual Arts Studio in this new building.

POWERED BY
PHILANTHROPY
Trinity College aims to provide transformative educational and cultural experiences for talented students from diverse backgrounds. The extensive support received from our generous alumni and friends helps us realise this goal, and we are forever thankful to those who share and support our vision. The following pages provide a snapshot of philanthropy at work at Trinity College in 2019.
SUPPORTING OUR STUDENTS CULTURALLY In 2019, Trinity students entertained audiences with the musical Urinetown, along with a number of other theatrical and cultural performances.
6
7
SUPPORTING OUR STUDENTS IN SPORT Both our men’s and women’s sports teams had a run of success in 2019 and displayed exceptional sportsmanship. Highlights include the ladies AFL team winning the grand final for the fourth year running, and the men claiming victory in athletics.
8
SUPPORTING OUR STUDENTS IN MUSIC The magnificent Choir of Trinity College wowed audiences on their national tour of NSW and the ACT, including at the High Court of Australia. The choir also released a new album called Land of Dreams.

FUNDS’ PERFORMANCE The Trinity College Foundation received $3.3 million in donations in 2019, and earned a further $2.1 million of income from its investments. At the end of 2019, the Foundation had a total of $42.5 million in assets under management and its net assets were $46.3 million. The Trinity College Foundation uses an independent investment advisor (Jana Investment Advisers Pty Ltd) to help manage its growing pool of assets. The assets of the Foundation are currently invested in a mixture of Australian and international equities, debt and liquid securities. The Foundation does not invest

The inclusion of the College in my Will is based on the hope and trust that the healthy criticism, intellectual curiosity and supportive fellowship indicative of my time at Trinity can be made available to a new generation of young people. Together with good will, financial support is vital to this continuance. Anthony Strazzera (TC 1972)

The benefits I’ve been given have led me to think that giving something back to Trinity is well worthwhile, and I’d recommend that to anybody as a way of saying thank you to an institution that gives people a wonderful start in life. When I got the news that I’d been given a scholarship to Trinity College it was a huge relief. It meant I had a place to stay, it gave me stability, and it gave me a place to call home. I also made lifelong friends and business partners. Louis Dai (TC 2007) Filmmaker Scholarship recipient
