INTRODUCTION to our Trinity Fellowship Church family and Greetings our guests! We are so glad you have received a copy of Seed for the Harvest, our prayer guide and journal that will lead all of us on a spiritual journey together for the next twelve weeks. Inside these pages, you will find the roadmap to a spiritual destination that God has set before us as a church. All of the contents have been soaked in prayer, and it is our firm belief that this is a journey God intends for us all to take – both individually in our personal lives and corporately as a church family. We are living in unprecedented times in our community, our country and the world. Never before has the world been darker and more in need of Christ than these times in which we live. We believe that there will be more people coming to Christ in the next few years than at any time we have ever witnessed. So, it is a time when God’s people and the church will shine the brightest and have more of an impact on those around us than ever before. What an exciting time awaits us! As we enter into 2010, we are approaching the one-year anniversary of being in our new building. Though the essence of our identity as a church has not changed, we find ourselves in new surroundings with immensely expanded opportunities for reaching the lost and hurting people of Amarillo. It is a good time to look ahead through this decade, toward the year 2020. The term 20/20 also refers to clear and perfect vision, and we want to see the opportunity before us as God sees it. We believe that prayer changes things, and that things won’t change until and unless prayer has gone before them. So, we are calling on our entire church family to pray together. This devotional is a tool the Holy Spirit will use to bring us into agreement. The Bible teaches us how to pray, but the Spirit of God helps us beyond our knowledge of prayer. Can you imagine the effect of thousands of us praying in agreement for God to move? What a great year 2010 will be!

GETTING S TA RT E D This journal is divided into three sections, or three seasons of prayer: Weeks 1-3, “Born Again of Incorruptible Seed,” focus on

our own individual relationship with Christ and our identity in Him. Weeks 4-8, “Seed in the Storehouse,” focus on us as a local

church family and how our individual effort is greatly multiplied when we walk and work together in unity. Weeks 9-12, “Seedtime and Harvest,” focus on us as

individuals again, with an emphasis on how to reach the lost and hurting in our community as we each do our part to sow seed, plant, cultivate and water for the coming harvest. During these four weeks, we will be preparing for our big evangelism event the week prior to Easter. Each week begins with a devotion theme for the week, and each day contains Scripture and statements or questions to reflect on as you pray. You are strongly encouraged to write your thoughts and prayers on the daily pages. Many times, as you write down what you are thinking or praying, it is then that you hear the voice of God and find that your prayer for the day becomes more than just a spiritual exercise. At the end of the twelve weeks, there will be thousands of prayer journals that testify to our unity, our calling and our anointing and serve as a monument to the great things God has done. Thank you for joining us on our journey! May the peace of Christ rule in your hearts and the Word of Christ dwell in you. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Colossians 3:15-16 NKJV

D

uring these three weeks, you will be guided to pray for your own spiritual walk as we focus together on our identity in Christ. You are a miracle! Christ shed His blood and died for you, but not just so that your sins would be forgiven. He gave His life that you might have a new life – one that is eternal and abundant! In John 10:10 (NKJV), Jesus states in His own words, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” Now that you are “in Christ,” the enemy can’t rob you of who you are in Christ, but if he can deceive you or hide the truth about who you really are, an abundant life in Christ will be largely unrealized. In other words, if we really knew who we were and what we have as born again believers, we would be living on a much higher level and with more power, freedom and victory than anything we’ve ever known. So, for the first three weeks of our journey and the first part of this New Year, let’s draw near to Him in our relationship and allow the Holy Spirit to reveal to us more than we have ever known about what it means to be born again of Incorruptible Seed – the seed of Christ!

week

ONE I Am a Miracle 1 Peter 1:23 (NKJV)

Having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever. Seeds are amazing! From the time a seed “dies” and is buried and until new life comes forth, a miracle that is a mystery is taking place. Think about it – the work of a seed to bring forth life is done below the surface of the ground – invisible to us. Even though we may scientifically understand how it works, the transformation of an individual seed is a miracle in and of itself. You have been born again. Jesus told Nicodemus that unless one is born of water AND the Spirit, he cannot see the kingdom of God. When you made your decision to give your life to Christ, a miracle took place. The Holy Spirit baptized you into the death, burial and resurrection of Christ (Romans 6:3-5). This means that your old man died, and your new man was raised to new life – the life of Christ. You were transferred from one kingdom to another, from being in Adam to being in Christ, from corruptible seed to that which is incorruptible. You are a new creation! You are a miracle! As you lift up your prayers this week, may the Holy Spirit reveal to you more about who you are in Christ and what it means to be born again of incorruptible seed. May the revelation of who you are in Christ come alive!

TWO The Mystery of Seed Philippians 2:12-13 (NKJV)

Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. Seed at work is a mystery. It is underground, and out of our range of visibility. We nurture the soil it grows in, but the DNA to grow is in the seed. In the same way, God is at work in us, and how He does His work is a mystery. We know that when we read our Bible, for example, we grow. But there is a miracle of transformation that occurs in us that we don’t fully understand. When we are delivered from an addictive behavior, or when we are able to forgive someone for a grievous wrong, or when we discover a new boldness to share our faith – these and other examples demonstrate real transformation. How does it happen? It is a mystery. We say things like, “God has changed my life,” or “I just don’t think the same way about what used to be a real temptation to me.” But the truth is, it is a deep work of the Holy Spirit that changes us. If we knew how God did it, we would want to replicate it somehow. And if we’re back in control, then it doesn’t work. So, God leaves it a mystery. The passage above exhorts us to “work out.” So we pray, read our Bible and go to church. But it is God working in us that produces the real change. That is the mystery at work.

Each day, accept the challenge and notice the inner work of grace He does in you as you work out. Begin giving thanks to God for anything and everything you can think of. You will find yourself remembering and thinking of things you haven’t thought of for a long time. Notice the inner peace and “clean feeling” at the end of your prayer. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. As you pray . . .

A deep inner work all of us need is for the Holy Spirit to come alongside and help us forgive someone for something in the past. Until we do forgive them and release them from our judgment, we are bound to them in an unrighteous way, and we are also bound to our past – unable to move forward. Ask God to bring to your memory this person that you need to forgive today. Release them by cancelling the debt they owe you, even as God has cancelled our debts through the cross.

THREE Cultivating the Seed John 15:4-5 (NKJV)

The Bible teaches us that before we come to Christ, we are in Adam, meaning that we have a sin nature, and we are separated from God because of our sin. But when we come to Christ, the “old man” is crucified with Christ (Galatians 2:20), and the “new man” is raised up in Him in new life. That is what it means to be born again of incorruptible seed. The incorruptible seed is Christ, in whose nature we now share. But for us to grow up in Christ and become the fruitful plant that comes from the seed, the seed must be cultivated. God works in us to produce the growth and to grow the fruit, but we do things to cultivate the seed. In other words, some effort is required on our part to grow, though God causes the growth. Last week you were challenged to “work out” your faith by responding to opportunities we encounter each day, many times unexpectedly. This week, we will be challenged to intentionally cultivate the soil so the seed can grow into a fruitful vine.

Ephesians 4:22-24 (NKJV)

That you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. As you pray . . .

One of the principles of seed is that a seed produces its own kind. An apple seed produces apples, not oranges. So, as we grow from our incorruptible seed, we become like Christ through the renewing of our minds. In the process, we must “put off” who we once were, and “put on” who we are now. It is like wearing garments – exchanging the old for new. “Lord, will You show me some old behaviors I still wear, that are not a part of who I really am?”

Through the renewing of our mind, we are able to see more clearly who we are in Christ. The new man is who we really are now, though sometimes we don’t see it or feel it. However, the Holy Spirit delights in showing us a picture of who we are becoming. Write down some absolute changes God has made in you since being born again. These are evidence of you as the new man.

Mark 4:28 (NLT)

The earth produces the crops on its own. First a leaf blade pushes through, then the heads of wheat are formed, and finally the grain ripens. As you pray . . .

As we spiritually grow, changes can be observed. In West Texas, we commonly see grain growing in farmer’s fields. As the plant begins to grow, we first see the blade, then the heads of wheat, and finally the ripened grain. How do you see yourself? Are you a tiny blade, just coming up from the ground? Or, are you further along, as a plant 2 or 3 feet high? Is the grain head emerging? In reality, there are areas of your life bearing full fruit and other areas that perhaps only the blade can be seen. Consider presenting something to God that needs to go to the next level.

F

or the last three weeks, we’ve been looking at our own individual relationship with Christ and who we are in Him. These next five weeks we will explore our corporate identity as a local church family. We are the Body of Christ, and the Body can only function properly when all the members are actively doing their part. Malachi 3:10-11 (NAS) says, “Bring the whole tithe into the

storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this,” says the Lord of Hosts, “if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows. Then I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of the ground; nor will your vine in the field cast its grapes,” says the Lord of Hosts. In this passage, God is speaking to the entire nation of Israel and calling them to bring seed to the storehouse, individually and collectively, so that ministry can go out from the house of God to the nations. As we cooperatively work together to bring seed to the storehouse, the result of our efforts together as a body will far exceed the results we could obtain if we all simply pursued God individually. For the next five weeks, let’s consider what our part is in bringing seed to the storehouse so that seed for the harvest can be released to impact our city, nation and the world!

‌ I testify that according to their ability, and beyond their ability, they gave of their own accord, begging us with much urging for the favor of participating in the support of the saints, and this, not as we had expected, but they first gave themselves to the Lord and to us by the will of God. Paul’s report of the Macedonian Christians was astounding. This group of people lived in deep poverty, unlike anything that we in the United States really understand. However, because of their love for God and His people, they begged for the opportunity to contribute to what God was doing. This contribution, however, didn’t begin with money. It began with giving themselves to the Lord as they were moved and inspired by the will of God. This was their first, and most important, seed in the storehouse. As we give ourselves to the Lord, we are positioning ourselves in a place of obedience and blessing. It is from this place that the Lord is able to use us to touch and minister to others on behalf of the Kingdom of God. It is from this place that the Lord is able to bless us with more seed. As you spend time praying and talking with God this week, ask Him to show you how you can give yourself to Him more fully as seed in the storehouse.

SEED in the

week

FIVE Seed is NOT just money Often when we hear someone talk about bringing the seed into the storehouse, our minds immediately go to the thought of money. While money is seed, God has provided us with other resources that can be seed as well. Seeds have the potential to produce life, but they must first be planted, watered and tended. Seeds produce life when they are buried and die. It is from the death of the seed that life arises. John 12:24 (NASB) says, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.” God gives us resources that are ours to properly manage and, like any good owner, God expects a return on the resources that He entrusts to us. These resources are the seeds that we plant in good soil. As a church, we prepare the soil of people’s lives so that the seed that is entrusted to us finds good soil and grows to produce good fruit in the lives of the people we touch and for the Kingdom of God. This week, we will be considering what resources God has provided for us. What is the seed that we can bring to the storehouse, the seed that will be planted in the soil of the lives of people that results in Kingdom fruit?

Proverbs 11:24-25 (NASB)

There is one who scatters, and yet increases all the more, and there is one who withholds what is justly due, and yet it results only in want. The generous man will be prosperous and he who waters will himself be watered. Matthew 6:3-4 (NASB)

But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. As you pray‌

Recognize that the money you have has been entrusted to you by God as a seed. Ask God how that money can best be utilized, for your own needs and the needs of the people around you. Consider the best way you can bring the seed of money into the storehouse.

SIX Sowing and Reaping 2 Corinthians 9:6 (NASB) tells us, “… he who sows sparingly

shall also reap sparingly; and he who sows bountifully shall also reap bountifully.” The law of sowing and reaping is a spiritual principle that always works, in the spiritual realm as well as the physical realm. As we sow the seeds that God has entrusted to us, we can expect a harvest. The law of sowing and reaping says that whatever you sow is what you will reap, that you will reap more than you sow and that the final harvest will be in proportion to how generously you sowed. This law is in effect whether we sow good seeds or bad seeds, so it is important that we are careful about the kinds of seeds we are sowing.

We can only sow the seed that we have. As God provides seed for us, some of it will be used on our own needs, but God doesn’t intend for us to use it all for our own consumption. That portion of the seed we bring to the storehouse becomes available for Kingdom use that will produce a harvest. From that harvest our needs will be provided for, and the Kingdom of God will expand. This week, consider the law of sowing and reaping and how it is operating in your life. Consider the type of seed that you are sowing and what harvest it may be bringing, to you and to the Kingdom of God.

SEVEN Seed Is an Investment As we bring seed to the storehouse, we need to think about this seed as an investment in the Kingdom of God. As an investment, the seed God has entrusted to us should produce a return that provides ministry not only to the people who are already here at Trinity Fellowship, but also for those people who God intends to be a part of this family. In the early part of our prayer journey, we learned to invest in ourselves by cultivating the seed. But when we bring our seed to the storehouse, we are investing in others by cultivating their seed. Remember our seed is our time, talent and money. How seed works over time is a mystery. So when you look back at how you were ten years ago, that’s hindsight and the mystery of how God changed your life is revealed. When we look ahead to 2020, that’s called foresight. God wants to awaken our imagination and stir in us a dream for our future. We need to see what God sees, those things that we’ve not yet experienced. This is where faith and hope meet; that new realization creates excitement. We believe that our investment will pay rich dividends. By the year 2020, can you imagine what your life will be like because of the investment you make today?

EIGHT Why Bring Seed to the Storehouse? Just as a farmer stores up seed for future use, we can bring our resources to the storehouse. As we do, we are providing resources that, when effectively used, provide a future harvest for the Kingdom of God. By combining our resources with those of other people, we can have a magnified effect on the harvest that God can send to us. As we bring seed to the storehouse, God promises a harvest of people, changed lives and changed communities. Through the effective use of the resources that God entrusts us with, we have the opportunity to partner with God in bringing the Kingdom of God to bear on the circumstances around us. James 1:27 (NASB) says, “This is pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father, to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world. In bringing seed to the storehouse, we allow the resources that God has entrusted us with to be used to take care of the needs of the poor and rejected. In addition, those resources allow the Gospel of Jesus Christ to be freely shared with people who need Jesus. This week, consider all the ways that the seed you bring to the storehouse is used to reach people with the Gospel who are lost and to provide for the needs of those who are hurting.

uring the first three weeks of our prayer journey, you focused on your personal relationship with Christ. The following five weeks, you prayed prayers relating to how our seed being brought together as a church family can accomplish great things for God’s kingdom. These next four weeks our prayer will be devoted to taking from the seed of the fruit that God has produced in us and sowing it for a harvest of lost and hurting people. A first fruit opportunity for sowing seed is given to us as we plan for our evangelism event the end of this month. Most of the people attending the event will be those you bring. In Acts 1:8, Jesus tells us that through the power of the Holy

Spirit we are witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth. There is a world of lost and hurting people that need to hear from you about the love and hope found only in a relationship with Jesus Christ. We have made our commitment through our prayers and pledges. Now we must walk out that commitment by going in with the power of the Holy Spirit and planting the lifegiving seed of love and hope through Jesus Christ. The harvest reaped will be lives changed before our very own eyes!

NINE You, the Evangelist 2 Corinthians 2:14 (NIV)

But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him. Evangelist is a label we put on those who have some sort of public platform for preaching the gospel. Preachers, TV evangelists, or the stranger preaching on the street corner are all pictures we have of evangelists. However, evangelism is simply defined as the preaching and dissemination of the good news. By reading Acts 1:8 and Matthew 28:19, we can see that everyone has been given a mission field to disseminate, or scatter widely, the seeds of the gospel of Jesus, and that makes all of us missionaries! Through our prayers for the lost, serving the needy and in our relationships at work, school and even with the checker at the grocery store, we are all evangelists whom God uses to spread the knowledge of Him. As you pray this week, may the Holy Spirit reveal to you many ways in which you can scatter the seeds of God’s love.

TEN Timely Planting Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NIV)

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven. Anyone who has ever planted a seed of any kind knows that the quality of the seed and the timing of the planting are important. We can look at the local wheat crop as an example. By planting the quality wheat seed at the most opportune time, there is not only a higher yield at the harvest, but you also get forage for cattle. If the wheat is not planted at the proper time, the opportunity to graze cattle on it is missed. Therefore, extra income from the livestock’s weight gain is also missed. If the seeds of the gospel we spread are to have the greatest effect we must be planting in alignment with God’s perfect timing. To do that, we must pray and be in touch with what God is doing in people’s lives. It is good to tell someone that God loves them. However, it is much more powerful and effective to let someone know that God knows what they are going through, and that He is working in their lives in specific ways. Asking God to use you to speak to someone specifically in the area of their need is planting quality seeds at the most opportune time. As you pray. . .

Ask for God’s perfect timing. May God reveal to you what He is doing and how He wants you to be a part of it.

We are to break up any hardness, or lack of sensitivity to the Lord in our own hearts and seek God through prayer. In doing this, we will experience revival in our lives as God pours out His Holy Spirit upon us.

ELEVEN Fields of Opportunity 1 Corinthians 16:9 (NIV)

…Because a great door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many who oppose me. Fields of opportunity are all around us. Any place of influence in your daily life is a field of opportunity, and it’s full of people in different stages of life and knowledge of Jesus. Some have never heard the good news of Jesus, and some are new believers who need encouragement in their walk with the Lord. The fields of effective work are easy to identify: Speaking God’s truth to the coworker who is in a hurting marriage, praying for the friend who just found out her mother has cancer or simply helping your neighbor repair his fence. They are the people who are searching for meaning in their lives and need a touch from the living God. But whether it is spreading the seed of God’s salvation through Jesus Christ or watering and tending to the fruit that is growing in the new believer, we often let things oppose us, causing us to be ineffective in our witness. Opposition can take the form of busyness, unforgiveness, feeling inadequate or fear of persecution. These are distractions from the enemy and we need to press through the opposition in order to seize the opportunity. As you pray. . .

Praise God for the fields of opportunity He has opened for you. Ask Him for the strength and courage of the Holy Spirit to overcome any opposition to being an effective witness.

Matthew 25:36-40 (NKJV)

“I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.” Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, “Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?” And the King will answer and say to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.” As you pray…

“God, today I choose to serve those around me as if I were serving You.”

TWELVE Bringing in the Harvest John 4:35 (NIV)

. . .I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for the harvest. Many are the workers who have prepared the soil, planted the seed and tended to the growing crop. As a church, we all are workers at different points in the process of planting and tending to the seeds. And now, many are the workers needed to bring in the harvest. We have just passed the one year anniversary of the opening of our new Worship Center. We have experienced God do amazing things, as many lives have been touched and changed. But, there are many more people in our community who need to hear about and experience the love of God. According to research by George Barna, the unchurched are more likely to come to church as a result of an invitation from someone they know. Imagine one of the empty seats in our new Worship Center. Now ask God to show you the face of a person filling that seat. Who is that person just waiting for an invitation to come to church with you? Who are those people that need to know there is peace, hope, acceptance and love in this unpredictable world? Who are those people in your life whose eternal destination could be changed by a simple invitation to church? As a church family, the House of God is your house. Who are you going to invite this week to come to one of the evangelism events next week? It is guaranteed that they will have an encounter with God. Whether it comes to full harvest of salvation in their life, or happens later, God will bring the increase from your faithfulness.

Matthew 4:19 (NIV)

“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” As you pray…

In biblical times, disciples devoted all of their time to following after and learning from a rabbi or teacher. They literally ate, slept and traveled together. We too need to be in intimate fellowship with Jesus everywhere we go and in whatever we do, so that we are skilled fishers of men.

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. As you pray…

In this Scripture, Jesus tells His disciples that the harvest will be plentiful. This assures us that a positive response is awaiting us as we go out into the fields. Everyone is needed to bring in the abundance of new believers.

FRIDAY

March 26 2010

1 Corinthians 3:6-9 (NIV)

I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor. For we are God’s fellow workers . . . As you pray‌

We all have a job as we work along with God who watches over the growth and harvest. It is your responsibility to do whatever job He calls you to do. Through our labors together, we work with God as He draws unbelievers to Himself and reaps a harvest of lives changed.

Philippians 2:9-11 (NKJV)

Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Revelation 20:15 (NIV)

If anyone’s name was not found written in the Book of Life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. As you pray…

“God, Your Word says that at the name of Jesus, every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord. I pray for those that I love, that their names will be among those written in the Book of Life.” List below the names of those you are praying will come to know God through a relationship with Jesus Christ:

CONCLUSION 2 Corinthians 9:10-13 (NIV)

Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, men will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. There is a song by Ray Boltz called “Thank You for Giving to the Lord.” The song is about a believer as he enters into heaven. He is greeted by those whose lives, through his giving and his witness, were changed for eternity. The final person to greet him is Jesus, who takes him by the hand and tells him, “My child look around you. Great is your reward.” Whose faces will you see as you enter heaven? During this prayer journey, many seeds have been planted through the giving of our finances, the prayers for the lost and the speaking of God’s hope and love to those in our lives. Praise God for the abundance He has given so that you can be generous in giving out from the fruit He has produced in you. Also praise Him for the abundance of the harvest. Great will be the reward in eternity for you and them.
