WELCOME
Welcome to our Spring Performance Guide, featuring events guaranteed to blow off the winter cobwebs and usher in the New Year in style. Our Gold Medal Showcase 2017 starts the year as six outstanding young artists compete for our most prestigious prize at Kings Place. Catch these rising stars on their journey to the top as they perform at the brink of promising careers. Our Symphony Orchestra performs Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring and plays Side by Side with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and BBC Concert Orchestra, while a unique series of concerts celebrates the piano, vocal and chamber works of Schumann. At the Laban Theatre, we welcome Hagit Yakira dance, Company Chameleon and Rosie Kay Dance Company as well as our home-grown dance talent and youth performances. Spring also marks the arrival of CoLab – this fortnight of experimentation and innovation is at the heart of what we do and who we are at Trinity Laban, and is the best way to immerse yourself in the cutting edge of creativity. And with Beats in the Bar, our regular lunchtime concerts at St. Alfege Church and the Old Royal Naval College and competitions and masterclasses, there is no end of performance to discover. I look forward to welcoming you to a new season of talent. Professor Anthony Bowne Principal, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance

The current Director is Ralph Allwood MBE , former Director of Music at Eton College and one of the most outstanding choral conductors working today. He leads the choir in a varied repertoire spanning over 500 years of music, from Renaissance polyphony to the present day. The ORNC Chapel Choir is unique amongst Cathedral, Church and Collegiate choirs in the UK in having access to the wide range of musical resources at Trinity Laban. Collaborations – with orchestral and jazz musicians, historical performers and composers – are therefore a particular feature of music in worship at the Chapel.

THOMAS BOWES JUNIOR TRINITY AND LTCL, 1982 VIOLINIST
HAGIT YAKIRA MA EUROPEAN DANCE THEATRE PRACTICE, 2006 CHOREOGRAPHER
My time at Trinity [Laban] remains a resource to which I return often both consciously and unconsciously. The intensity of my violin studies with Professor Katona; the huge experience I gained playing in and then leading the college Symphony Orchestra; and the many connections made there with other instrumentalists, singers, pianists, composers and those who are now in top administrative roles in the profession; these all continue to bear fruit half a lifetime later. Priceless assets all.
I believe that Trinity Laban prepared me for the possibility to delve deeply and critically into contemporary thinking of what body is and what a body can do and become.
See Thomas perform the complete solo sonatas and partitas for violin by Bach on Fri 17 Feb (see page 19 for more details).

See Free Falling, a double bill by Hagit, featuring alumni Sophie Arstall and Verena Schneider, on Thu 26 Jan (see page 13 for more details).
