TRINITY REP HOSTS FREE PANEL FOR INTIMATE APPAREL Peeling Back the Layers: An Intimate Knowledge of Women’s Undergarments | Feb 3, 6PM PROVIDENCE, RI: Trinity Repertory Company invites the public to join in the conversation sparked by their upcoming production of Intimate Apparel, at a panel event hosted on the show’s set. Peeling Back the Layers: An Intimate Knowledge of Women’s Undergarments, will take place Monday, February 3, 6:00-8:00pm in Trinity Rep’s Dowling Theater. This event is free and open to the public. The public panels held throughout the season further Trinity Rep’s mission to reinvent the public square and nurture dialogue among the community.
Moderated by Trinity Rep resident acting company member Mia Ellis, Peeling Back the Layers: An Intimate Knowledge of Women’s Undergarments takes the history of women's fashion and undergarments as a lens through which to examine issues of race, status, gender roles, and sexuality. Panelists include Dr. Radiclani Clytus, Assistant Professor of English and American Studies, specializing in 19th century (African) American cultural productions, Brown University; Dr. Matthew Guterl, Professor of Africana Studies and American Studies, Brown University; Kate Irvin, Curator and Head of the Department of Costume and Textiles at the RISD Museum and Carol Schwebel, owner of Ruth’s Lingerie in Cranston, Rhode Island and expert in women’s undergarments.
