WHERE HIGHER EDUCATION IN WALES BEGAN THE UNIVERSITY LOOKS FORWARD TO CELEBRATING 200 YEARS OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN WALES IN 2022 AND ITS ROLE IN SHAPING A NATION. The bicentenary celebrations will commemorate the establishment of St David’s College, Lampeter in 1822 and mark its place as the birthplace of higher education in Wales. The University’s Royal Charter of 1828 is the oldest in Wales and England after Oxford and Cambridge. The bicentenary celebrations will provide us with the
opportunity to celebrate the successes and achievements of UWTSD and its founding institutions over the past two centuries. Our presence in Lampeter, Carmarthen, Swansea and Cardiff allow us to have a significant impact on our communities in Wales and further afield. We take great pride in our history and our connection to it, particularly as it has provided us with the determination and confidence to shape our own future for generations to come. 2022 will provide us with the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our staff, students and graduates through the Arts, Education, Humanities, Science and Technology.

BA Acting at UWTSD is a really rigorous course and I’m learning so much so quickly. It’s a lot of fun; very fast paced but I’m learning and growing and it’s far surpassing my expectations. The tutors are passionate and really care about what they’re talking about which makes me care about what I’m learning about. It’s amazing, I love it! It’s so beautiful here. I’ve been to Llansteffan, to St David’s Cathedral and to Whitesands and it’s been great to see new sights. Everyone’s lively and friendly and everyone talks to each other.

The DBA is an internationally recognised qualification that has allowed me to gain critical knowledge and experience to become an expert in different business areas such as: financial management, public administration, project management, and marketing among others. I chose this course for three reasons: the DBA is one of the most advanced degrees available to those in the field of business and is globally recognized; it will help me stand out from the pack of MBA graduates as it shows that I am willing to go that extra mile to prepare for a leadership position, and, a DBA degree will open multiple career paths as this degree not only identifies me as an expert in my field, but has enabled me to acquire a set of management and decision-making skills that may qualify me for senior-level leadership positions and new career opportunities. One of the most important skills that the DBA has taught me is critical thinking and that everything can be questioned, no matter how long established and how widely a received wisdom it is. I feel that I have gained confidence in my own analytical skills, as well as in the work I produce. The UWTSD London campus is one of the most upbeat and exciting places to study with experienced and professional staff, as well as knowledgeable lecturers, who are there on every step of my learning journey. Studying in London, the world’s most diverse city, is also an opportunity for me to meet new friends, build connections and experience cultural differences with student from different parts of the world.

ONLINE COURSES Based at the oldest University in Wales’ our lecturers are not only specialists in their subject area but experts in distancelearning provision. We’ve been delivering distancelearning programmes for nearly 30 years. Distance learning offers prospective students greater freedom to pursue a course of study that is better tailored to their particular lifestyle and circumstances. It offers a flexible learning option to people who cannot be residential. They may be a busy parent bringing up young children or a career professional unable to take time off but eager to undertake professional development or to someone perhaps with mobility problems but keen on the intellectual challenge of studying.
With the application of technology such as the Virtual Learning Environment (Moodle), various e-learning packages, the growing collections of e:resources, the use of audio, video and other interactive materials to support your study, distance learning at UWTSD can offer students a rich and rewarding study experience.
