SECURING TRINITY’S PROMISE
SECURING TRINITY’S PROMISE
Continuing to improve Trinity’s facilities in service of our students’ educational experience, and building the endowment in order to sustain the School for generations to come, increase access for families, and enhance programmatic initiatives, are the twin goals for major capital gifts to Trinity.
MAJOR GIFTS FOR FACILITIES With unparalleled generosity, the Trinity family raised over $122 million for Building Our Community: The Campaign for Trinity 2012-2016 and made possible Trinity’s historic campus expansion and renovation, completed in 2017. A 65,000 square foot addition houses new upper school classrooms, science labs, offices, and the student lounge along with new all-school performing arts and athletic spaces, and an expanded dining room. Renovations to existing buildings created new teaching spaces for visual arts, technology, modern languages, and small group work in all three divisions. Finally, new construction knit the school together around a new, outdoor, commons that has become the heart of the campus.
Over the next several years, Trinity aspires to Renovate the Upper School Library to better serve students in grades seven through twelve. Newly-connected to the classroom floor of the addition, the Upper School library will become the academic heart of the Upper School. The space will be carefully expanded to maximize space for collaborative study, quiet work, research, and reading. In addition to renewing flooring, lighting, shelving, furniture, and mechanical systems, plans include new, ADA-compliant entrances from the new addition and a dedicated classroom adjacent to the new reference and research section. Designed according to modern academic library standards, we will create a twenty-first century library to serve our students today and for generations to come.
Refurbish the Lower School Library. Originally the School’s Chapel, the Lower School Library is a vital center for instruction, research, and quiet that holds a special place in the memories of generations of Trinity students as the space where their personal love of books and reading was nurtured. Plans for the Lower School Library will include creating a space that serves the new and emerging needs of students in grades kindergarten through six and their teachers, and maximizing space for full class instruction, small group work, and quiet reading, all the while retaining the warmth and character that make the Library a beloved symbol of Trinity history and tradition.
Restore the Great Hall. Trinity’s iconic gathering space, the Great Hall will be carefully returned to its historic beauty while maintaining and enhancing its functionality. A restored ceiling, careful cleaning of the nineteenth-century tile and marble, and new lighting and furnishings will combine to create a space that will continue to offer a warm welcome to students and families, a gracious space to begin and end the day, and a connection to Trinity’s history and traditions. Renovate the Morse Theater. An architectural gem housed in the Annex, Trinity’s oldest building, the Morse Theater will be will be fully renovated to create a flexible, state-of-the-art theater for music and drama, lectures, meetings, and other events. Special attention will be given to creating a working teaching space for theater across all grade levels. Technology, new HVAC, storage, and “front- and back-of-house” facilities will be carefully integrated into a renovation that reveals the beauty of this historic, landmark space.
MAJOR GIFTS FOR ENDOWMENT Over many years, Trinity School has benefited from the thoughtful generosity of many individuals who have supported the School’s endowment. Nevertheless, at just over $70 million, Trinity’s endowment ranks in the lower third among our New York City peer schools. Growing the endowment increases access for deserving students and families, provides support for programmatic growth and enhancement, reduces the School’s dependence on tuition and other annual operating income streams, and sustains Trinity into the future. The School has set an aspirational goal of increasing its total endowment to $100 million by 2027.
Major support for endowment may be provided in a variety of ways Unrestricted endowment gifts offer the school maximum flexibility to apply its resources to areas of greatest need and maximum benefit in support of its general operations. Gifts for financial aid endowment help Trinity to provide a robust program of financial aid that increases access for deserving students and their families. All financial aid at Trinity is need-based and provides tuition relief as well as support for the costs of the many activities that enhance each student’s educational experience. Gifts for endowment for programs provide support that sustains and enhances Trinity’s array of curricular offerings and enables the School to imagine and explore new initiatives. Gifts for program endowment may be made for a wide variety of purposes:

• In support of the work of a particular academic department
• For Public Service, Global Engagement, Athletics, Performing Arts
