TRINITY COLLEGE DUBLIN

What are student societies? Student life in Trinity College Dublin is extremely diverse and exciting, mainly due to the daily assortment of events and activities organised by Societies. Societies are organised by and for students (sometimes staff as well) in College. There is a huge range of activities covered by these 119 groups and getting involved is fundamental to the Trinity experience. Societies exist because members of College are passionate about them and because your time in college should not be all hard work and no play!

Getting involved in societies will lead to an enriched and rounded college experience. You may even make a few friends along the way and learn something new about yourself! 2

Society Events Societies promote events in many ways, find, follow and like them on Facebook & Twitter or join the society to be added to their mailing list for invitations and updates. You will see many colourful posters around campus advertising the numerous society events. Facebook.com/trinitysocieties Like the CSC Facebook page, as we will share many of the daily events posted by the 119 societies. Follow the societies and @trinityCSC on Twitter Information on societies can be found on their individual profiles on the CSC website

Fourth Week 19th - 23rd October During Fourth week we aim to highlight the central role student led societies and activities play within the lives of students during their time in Trinity College. There will be a wide variety of free events held during this week, that are open to all TCD students and staff. You can try out a society without joining and see what all of the fuss is about! www.trinitysocieties.ie

Freshers’ Week 2015 takes place from the 21st until the 25th of September. But if you miss it, you can join any society during the year by contacting them. Or by attending one of their many, many events throughout the year and sign up at the door. Freshers’ Week is not only for the new kids on the block, it’s open to all undergrads and postgrads, staff members are also welcome to sign up and get involved! Societies and clubs will have stands in the front square throughout the week, where you can meet members and sign up. It only costs an average of €3 to become a member of a society and you can join as many societies as you like, and go to as many events as you can handle!!

Message from the CSC Chairpeson

My name is Andrew Burrows and I am the Chair of the Central Societies Committee this year. The CSC is the body that oversees all 119 societies in Trinity, ensuring they have the resources and support to continue the wonderful work they do. Society life is the best part of being in Trinity. The range of societies means that there really is something for everyone, whether you want to continue an old interest or to take up a new one. Regardless of which societies you join, you will get the chance to be involved in exciting events, meet new people, and learn far more than you ever could in a lecture hall. The CSC executive members will be in Front Square for all of Freshers’ Week to give advice, answer questions, and point you in the right direction on anything to do with society life. Welcome to Trinity, enjoy Freshers’ Week, and do get involved!

I found getting involved in societies was the easiest way to meet new, similarly-minded people outside of lectures. As well as that, it’s a fantastic opportunity to further develop your interest in a particular area, whether that be acting, gaming or entrepreneurship! So go and attend at least 2 society events throughout Freshers’ Week! Trust me, it won’t be the lectures you remember most about your college experience in decades to come, it will be the extra-curricular stuff you do in societies and clubs and the people you met throughout. I met some of my best friends by getting involved in societies, so give it a go and you won’t look back!

CLINICAL THERAPY

DU Clinical Therapies Society is an exciting new addition to Trinity Societies.
