PRESIDENTIAL ADDRESS N’aww look at you! You survived the leaving cert! Are you proud of yourself? Well you should be. Plus, you made it into the top University in Ireland *claps in Swahili*. Femi Falana, President

Only thing you have to worry about now is whether the ACS is going to have too much fun this year. So who are we? The society is as old as Africa itself. Ok that is a lie. We are a relatively young society but what we lack in longevity, we make up in erm… youth? Yes, youth. We’re young, you’re young, it’s a match made in heaven. As a society we focus on educating our members about all things Africa and Caribbean through our various events. We strive on making our events fun, while giving you an experience similar to running alongside giraffes and zebras on the plains of the motherland. We have some great events lined up for you this year. So if you want to be a part of a bunch of dashiki-wearing, djembe drumming, all round funloving people, don’t hesitate to find us during freshers week.

MEET THE CREW There they are, the ACS committee, minus a few who couldn’t make the photo-shoot. The people tasked with providing you with events you will never forget. No pressure guys.

Hello, I am Kenny Olaniyi and I am in 3rd year Law & Business. I am the Vice-Chair of the Trinity Afro Caribbean society aka the level headed one bringing order to proceedings. My interests include sports (football ARSENAL), volunteering and gym. I also mentor with TAP and work with school students. Fun fact: my name is Kenny and I work in the Kilkenny Shop...I got the job because of my name (not really).

Hi everyone! I am Debola Shomoye and the Secretary for Trinity Afro Caribbean society. I am currently a Junior Sophister, training to become a legal drug dealer aka studying Pharmacy! I am a singer, piano player & I occasionally dabble with guitars.. I am interested in most music genres, especially gospel, jazz and RnB, so if you're interested in music, for or outside the society, please don't hesitate to contact me! You can find me living it up in the Hamilton building, the Panoz or belting out solos in the jazz society room. If you do bump into me, we can always stop for a quick chit chat or bond over how 6th year was too easy compared to life now... I look forward to seeing you at our events this year and sharing many fun filled, music infused nights with you! Peace! My name is Oluwasebaisolafunmi Adegbemi but you can call me Joseph. I am the P.R.O (public relations officer) of the Afro Caribbean committee, meaning that I am the officer who relates to the public. If there's anything you'd like to ask or plan with the society, I am your man. Contact us through our email afrocarib@csc.tcd.ie and if I see it before the Secretary, Debola, I will be the one to reply you. My hobbies include listening to music, sleeping and gym. Looking forward to sharing a promising year of entertainment with you!

Hi, this is Ifeolutembi (Tembi). I’m the Treasurer of Trinity Afro-Caribbean society this year, and with my fellow committee members hope to share a year full of fun and affordable experiences with you. I’m a third year Human Geneticist and full-time Yoruba literate, but please don’t ask me to speak the language. I beg. I grew up in Nigeria and moved to Ireland for college. Yes, I went to Boarding School, yes it was amazing. Fun fact: I have both Nigerian and Nigerien ancestry. Ha! Beat that please. In my spare time, I enjoy dancing, braiding hair, pretending to have artistic ability, playing card games and hanging out with friends. I am up for interesting political conversations and enjoy really bad jokes. Please feel free to come up to me anytime with suggestions for the society. See you around

Hi! I am Christian and my role is an OCM in the Afro Caribbean society. I'm going into my last year of BESS and I study business only subjects now, such as marketing, human resources, accounting and finance. I have spent 10 years living in Africa and so I am very interested in the continent. I really enjoy traveling and seeing different cultures. I also play rugby.

Hello Freshers! Against all odds you made it to Trinity. Congratulations! I'm Henry and I'm one of your Afro Caribbean society OCMs. I'm a Senior Fresher studying BESS, aspiring to be the next Dangote. You can find me being an absolute social butterfly around the arts block, throwing shapes in the Sports Centre or clearing all the digestives in the Chaplaincy. Don't hesitate to approach myself or any of the other committee members, we're all hoping to expand our fraternities and sororities. Don't be shy, bring along your smiles, talents, experiences and complains about college work. You'll be startled by our similarities or differences.

Hi! I am Linda and I am an OCM in the Trinity Afro Caribbean society. I am a Senior Freshman in General Nursing. I love giving back to others. I am really interested in Rugby and I play for Leinster women and Old Belvedere rugby club. I really like what I do and I am always up for challenges. It's what motivates me to work hard and has shaped the person that I am today! See you all soon!!

Hello, my name is Joseph Amah. I am an OCM in the Trinity Afro Caribbean society and I study Engineering. My interests and hobbies are: eating plums. Especially red plums! They have such a unique taste made from heaven. Remember when God sent manna from heaven to the Israelites in the wilderness? Yeah, you remember good.... However, instead of manna, God sent me plums, showers of plums. If you ask me to choose between plums or sex, I will choose plums any day, any time, any where. If you want to get on my good side buy me plums. Thank you and have a plummy day.

Hi! My name is Tobi and welcome to Trinity College Dublin. I'm a Junior Sophister in Medicinal Chemistry and photographer in the Trinity Afro Caribbean society. Basically, I’m learning how to make drugs. My job in the society is to take pictures and make our members look good in them, which isn't very difficult if you've seen us. In addition to that, I aim to capture the lively atmosphere and emotion that dominate our events and social gatherings in my photography. However, my role in the society isn't limited to photography. The committee is very open and welcoming and just like everyone else, my insights, ideas and opinions are welcomed and incorporated into the successful running of the society. I'd include a bit of advertisement for my photos but of course that would be shameful. Welcome to the Afro Caribbean society. We look forward to having you with us.
