I have worked in theatre for almost 8 years now and while I normally prefer to stay on the technical side of things, I decided to take a chance and direct a one act this year. When I read Anti-Depressants for the first time I knew it was the play I wanted to do as it about something as insignificant as a short conversation yet there was so much more to it. Directing this show has allowed me to view theatre through a new perspective which I am very grateful for. I would like to thank my actors for being amazing and truly helping my vision come to life, my stage manager Shawn for putting up with me, and all of tech class for helping me out on this project. I would also like to thank my parents, friends, and Mrs. Wood for being there for me throughout this whole process, I couldn’t have done it without y’all. ---Devin Meseke

Ever since 8th grade I’ve wanted to direct a senior one-act, but I never would have imagined that I would be pursuing theatre directing in college. It has been a bonkers, fantastic, and wild experience that I am so thankful for. Picking Space just felt right. Anytime I tried to pick another show I found myself going back to Space in an attempt to find “something like it.” Thank you to Emerson, Lauren and Maura for being infinitely willing to try new things and for all your hard work. All of the thanks to Molly Perez for finding a million and one walkie-talkie replacements and letting me bounce my crazy ideas off you. Thank you to Foster, Chelsea, Peyton, Tatum and Charlotte for all your great designs and cue calling. Thank you to Mr. Sessa, Mr. Williams, and Mr. Byrum for every late night and helpful answer to any ridiculous questions. And finally, thank you to my fellow directors for the gone-but-not-forgotten pre-show skit and many group chat shenanigans. To those watching, I hope you enjoy the show, and to my cast, 3...2...1...Blast Off! ---Callie Mitchell

I never expected to direct a senior one-act, but I’m so grateful I had the opportunity. Working with my cast and crew has been one of the best experiences I’ve had in high school, and I’m glad to have shared it with my fellow directors. When I first started searching for plays, it was a much harder task than I anticipated. I went through dozens of plays that didn’t seem to click until I found Playwriting 101: The Rooftop Lesson. When I read it for the first time, I found it a refreshing break from the many shows I had read that attempted to impart a deeper meaning but failed. I hope this lighthearted play does for you what it did for me the first time I read it. Thank you to MJ, Kate, and Abby for working so hard on this show and making every rehearsal a super fun one! I know you guys are going to do amazing things during your next few years of high school! Thank you to my stage manager Charlotte for always suggesting new ideas and keeping everyone on track. I would also like to thank Mr. Sessa for helping guide me through the directing process and for begrudgingly staying at school until 6:30 for our many rehearsals. Thank you to Mr. Williams and Mr. Byrum for all your help and support during my time at TVS. Lastly, thank you to the crew for putting together all of our shows! Now, sit back, relax, and enjoy the show! *click* ---Karthika Nambiar

When deciding on my one act to direct, The Class appealed to me because of its relation to the world of acting classes. The dialogue between the teacher and Ellen is great as it displays both characters in what feels like two different roles even though they are one person. They each play off each other so well to provide both the great dialogue and the comedic timing of the lines. The big moment though is when the twist of the show comes in and the script is flipped on the teacher. I can't help but crack up at this moment having been the student for so long. None of this would be possible without the help of my actors and my stage crew. Knowing Henry, I had no doubt he would be able to fill the role of the teacher and take on both a serious and no dillydally attitude. At the same time Tatum plays the role of Ellen just as well. Her casual but cognitive and observational character helps to bring this scene to life. I also have to say a big thanks to Itzel Munoz who took on the job of stage manager and was also a big help in bringing the Guatemalan aspect to the set. All in all, I think the show couldn't have gone any better than it is now. I hope you thoroughly enjoy it as much as I did. ---Gage Brazell

Of all the shows we put on each year, senior one-acts has always had a special place in my heart. It’s such a unique opportunity, because it brings the most unlikely people together. When I was trying to find a show to direct, Daniel on a Thursday was the first to catch my eye. Although I continued to look, I kept coming back to the bookmark I had left at the start of the play. I think it captures a certain playfulness and sincerity that makes theatre so much fun to put on. I want to thank everyone who helped with this process, starting with my amazing stage manager, Gita Paladugu. She has made this entire process so much easier by giving much needed input, and supporting me at every turn. Thank you Townes and Bradford for making every rehearsal fun, constantly giving me new perspectives, and keeping me on my feet. Of course, I also want to thank all the designers for their hard work to help bring my show to life. Thank you to Mr. Williams for tolerating all my shenanigans, Mr. Sessa for all your direction in this process, and Mr. Byrum for always saying hello. Finally, I want to thank my fellow directors for the support along the way. I hope you all enjoy watching Daniel on a Thursday as much as I’ve enjoyed directing it. ---Molly Zimmerman

When I was first looking for a play to direct, not many stood out. Then I found Stuck. This play stood out to me because it challenges the director and the actor. It’s a very physical comedy, and there’s not a lot of space to use for both actors. It pushes actors to get the most of their abilities and use their physical acting skills the most. It’s one of the hardest shows I could’ve possibly picked, but I had the right cast to do it. This show is Caroline Sloter (Sara) and Colin Snyder (Sal) at the top of their games. It’s been a tough battle and they’ve had less rehearsal time than any other one-act due to covid protocols, but in the end it turned out the way I envisioned it and I couldn’t be more happy with it. I also couldn’t have done it without my amazing stage manager Sophie Appel. She really helped bring the show to life and you wouldn’t be seeing the same product you see today if it wasn’t for all the great work she’s done. I’m so glad you are able to see my vision come to life! If this is the end of theatre for me, it’s been a heck of a ride and I’ve loved every moment. What a way to send it off. Enjoy the show! ---Wish Lorimer
