Switched PDUs distribute AC power from a UPS system, generator or utility wall outlet to multiple devices. Built-in Ethernet interface allows users to manage PDUs over the IP network via SNMP, standard Web browser or telnet. Each PDU outlet can be switched on or off remotely, preventing costly service calls by allowing unresponsive devices to be rebooted over the network. Outlets can also be locked out to prevent connection of unauthorized equipment loads. Programmable load shedding extends the runtime of critical systems during power failures by automatically turning off nonessential devices. Programmable load ramping avoids current inrush overloads and ensures proper startup sequencing by determining the power-on delay of each outlet. Programmable alerts monitor load thresholds and report alarm conditions via automated e-mail, SMS and SNMP alerts. PDUs support centralized management through included PowerAlert Network Management System or a third-party network management system. Temperature, humidity, alarms and contact closure interface can be monitored through optional environmental sensor. All PDU parameters and actions can be logged. PDU Applications Tripp Lite PDUs can be used for additional applications not discussed here. Contact Tripp Lite Technical Support at 773.869.1234 for assistance. Add More Outlets to a UPS System
Make Any On-Line UPS System Hot-Swappable
Applicable PDUs: All Models 1 The PDU plugs into an outlet on the UPS system. 2 The PDU increases the total number of outlets powered by the UPS system.
Applicable PDUs: PDUMH15AT, PDUMH20AT, PDUMH15ATNET, PDUMH20ATNET, PDUMH20HVATNET
Convert a Single High-Amperage Outlet to Multiple Low-Amperage Outlets Applicable PDUs: Models with High-Amperage Plug or Inlet 1 The PDU plugs into a high-amperage outlet on the UPS system. 2 The PDU spreads the high-amperage input among multiple lowamperage outlets, allowing the UPS system to power multiple devices from a single outlet. Distribute Facility UPS or Generator Power to Multiple Outlets Applicable PDUs: All Models 1 The PDU plugs into a wall outlet supported by facility UPS or generator power. 2 The PDU distributes power to equipment via multiple outlets.
1 The primary input connects to an on-line UPS system. 2 The secondary input connects to a wall outlet. 3 If the UPS system is taken offline for maintenance, repair or replacement, the PDU keeps the load powered by automatically switching from the primary input to the secondary input. When the UPS system is restored, the PDU will switch back to the primary input. Monitor Load Levels at the Rack Applicable PDUs: All Metered, Monitored and Switched Models Connecting additional equipment to a PDU can overload the PDU or the supply circuit, causing equipment downtime. PDUs display load levels in real time, allowing additional equipment to be connected safely. 1 The PDU’s load meter displays the connected equipment load in amps. (Switched and Monitored PDUs also support remote load monitoring.) 2 Additional equipment can be connected without overloading the PDU. (Determine equipment power requirements before connecting.) Monitor Load Levels Remotely
Provide Independent Power Sources for Devices with Redundant Power Supplies Applicable PDUs: PDU40TDUAL, PDUMV40 PDUs with dual power circuits provide an efficient power distribution solution for equipment with redundant power supplies, combining the advantages of two separate high-amperage PDUs without the added expense, space requirements and management complexity. Input cords, breakers and outlets are color coded to match each independent circuit, simplifying cable management. 1 Each PDU input cord plugs into an independent UPS, utility or generator power source. 2 The PDU distributes power to equipment with redundant power supplies, providing an independent power source for each power supply. (The PDU also works with equipment that does not have redundant power supplies.) Provide Redundant Power Sources for Devices without Redundant Power Supplies Applicable PDUs: PDUMH15AT, PDUMH20AT, PDUMH15ATNET, PDUMH20ATNET, PDUMH20HVATNET Automatic transfer switch (ATS) PDUs eliminate equipment downtime by automatically switching to a secondary power source if the primary source fails or requires maintenance. Dual AC inputs can be connected to two utility sources, two generator sources, two UPS sources or any combination. 1 The primary input connects to the primary UPS system, which must be an on-line UPS system. 2 The secondary input connects to the secondary UPS system. Ideally, the UPS systems should be connected to separate circuits. 3 The PDU monitors voltage and frequency, automatically switching to the secondary input if the primary input deviates from the designated operating range.
Applicable PDUs: All Monitored and Switched Models 1 The PDU’s network interface connects to an Ethernet jack. 2 Remote users can monitor load levels remotely to avoid overloads. Users can also set alarm thresholds and receive alerts via SNMP, e-mail or SMS text message when thresholds are exceeded. Control Individual Outlets Remotely Applicable PDUs: All Switched Models 1 The PDU’s network interface connects to an Ethernet jack. 2 Remote users can switch each of the PDU’s outlets on or off via SNMP, Web or telnet. Benefits include rebooting locked devices to avoid costly service calls and turning off nonessential loads during power failures to extend battery backup runtime for critical systems. Centralize Power Management Applicable PDUs: All Monitored and Switched Models 1 The PDU’s network interface connects to an Ethernet jack. 2 The network manager installs PowerAlert Network Management System (included with Monitored and Switched PDUs) or a third-party network management system (user-supplied) on a workstation connected to the IP network. 3 The network manager uses PowerAlert Network Management System to auto-discover up to 250 PDUs and UPS systems, which can then be managed from a central location. All PDU functions are available through PowerAlert Network Management System.
