CO U N T RY C LU B H I S TO R I C One of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the Denver area, the Country Club Historic District “suffers not from the fluctuations of the real estate market,” says 5280 Magazine. Developed in the early 1900s at the same time as the Denver Country Club, it was first known as the “Spanish Suburb” because of its many tile-roofed homes and its distance from the city center (these days, just 10 minutes by car). Listed on the National Registry of Historic Places and designated a Landmark District, prominent local architects William and Arthur Fisher and Jean Jacques Benedict created the area’s elaborate Denver Squares, Georgians, Mediterraneans, Spanish Colonials and Tudors. To complement the eclectic variety of homes, wide parkways and distinctive gates were designed to mark entry points to the neighborhood. The landmark designation is significant, as no project that alters a home’s exterior may proceed without comment from the Landmark Preservation Office. An oasis in the city, the neighborhood is made up of only 400 homes. Its location is spectacular, only steps from Alamo Placita Park and Cherry Creek’s “best of the best” shops, restaurants, art galleries, Farmer’s Market and the beloved Bike Path. Residents say they most love the proximity to downtown, the 4th of July Parade, the history of the homes and the beauty of the gardens, gates and flowers. Worry free bike rides for kids and and walks to friends’ houses make this neighborhood a good choice for families. IMPROVEMENT SUMMARY In 2015 and 2018, the house underwent two substantial remodel phases, adding new spaces that result in the home being more versatile, family oriented and supporting working from home with ease. Almost the entire 2nd and 3rd floors were adapted to a more European and family oriented lifestyle. On the 2nd floor a children’s wing was added, offering three en-suite bedrooms, each with their own character and layout. The wall to the South room, however, can easily be taken out to create an open sitting area. To give parents a true master retreat, the master suite was extended, adding a new master marble bath with steam shower, a new dressing room with washer/ dryer and hidden access to a generous master lounge / home office with wet bar on the 3rd floor. Next to the large home office, there is an overflow bedroom/additional office, half bath and secret yoga/meditation/panic room located on the 3rd floor. The upper level of the garage has been converted into a carriage house, now offering a studio with 3⁄4 bath and kitchenette which can serve as guest / office / live-in help / caretaker / nanny / teenager quarters. A state-of-the-art wireless alarm system with sensors throughout the house including, door, window, motion, smoke, fire and CO detectors has been added. A professional video security system provides peace of mind. The whole house is heated and air conditioned. It has Nest thermostats, controlling all HVAC as well as providing CO detection in the 2nd floor children’s wing. To preserve the original leaded glass windows, wooden storm windows have been added throughout, substantially improving thermal capabilities, cutting heating cost in half and reducing outside noise dramatically at the same time. All in all, the house has been upgraded from 4 bedrooms / 3 baths, one half-bath and one 1⁄4 bath to a total of 6 bedrooms / 5 baths, 2 half-bath and one 1⁄4 bath. By finishing the carriage house and adding the mud room/ walk through to the garage, square footage has been added to the house to approx. 5800 SF above ground. This substantial investment resulted in a true family oasis in the city.
