ARCHITECTU ART AS ARCHITECTURE

This modernist residence was designed by Seattle-based architect Jim Olson of Olson Kundig for entertaining and the display of artwork. Modern and symmetrical, the 13,000 square foot above grade home is situated harmoniously on 3.5 private acres in central Denver’s Polo Club neighborhood. Olson says he designed the home “to maximize the beautiful Colorado sunlight with latticework, skylights and scrims that create soft and balanced light with no harsh contrasts.” The construction materials create their own kind of neutral texture and edited calm. The minimalist interior features a restrained palette and a two-story central gallery that divides private family quarters from public spaces. Custom windows frame views to spectacular private landscapes. 4 bedrooms, 8 baths, 3 car garage and much, much more.

Q UA L I T Y HIGHEST QUALITY CONSTRUCTION

Built in 2008 by Saunders Construction, every material, finish and system in this home was carefully selected and designed to work together. The structure is framed in steel and concrete. The oak floors are rift-cut. The limestone was quarried in France and fabricated in Italy. The Venetian plastered walls are lined with plywood for easy art installation. The elevator is commercial grade. The slate roof has an internal gutter system with copper downspouts. A geothermal-assisted HVAC system guarantees a quiet, consistent indoor temperature always.

L O C AT I O N This Polo Club location is truly exceptional. The landscape architecture was designed by Charles Anderson, a lead collaborator on Seattle’s Olympic Sculpture Park - the award winning nine acre park adjacent to the Seattle Art Museum. When creating the design for this 3.5 acre Polo Club property, he was inspired by the Denver landscape of mountains and plains. He says the design “emphasizes changing seasonal color, expansive use of native plants, and the fusion of landscape, art and architecture. It creates outdoor rooms, frames views to the surrounding landscape, and makes spaces for sculptures.” One of the most special features of the property is a ¼ mile path that winds past terraces, woodland steps, meadows and a secret garden.

THE GROUNDS

NEIGHBORHO POLO CLUB HISTORY

Polo Club Place, the magnificent crown jewel of the Polo area, is a small, private enclave in the heart of Denver. It quietly sits tucked behind 3 discreet entrances and is home to some of Denver’s most prominent residences. Polo Club Place has its own association and architectural review board. The neighborhood was created in 1920 when four young Denverites purchased 160 acres of property at Alameda and Steele and incorporated a new club for polo play. As the sport’s popularity began to decrease, the polo club was closed and the property was redeveloped with homes.
