Jindal Power Limited Jindal Power Limited (JPL), a company promoted by Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (JSPL), has been contributing to the growing needs of power in the country since its inception. JPL has set up India’s first mega power project in the private sector at Tamnar in Raigarh district in Chhattisgarh. The company has invested over Rs. 4,338 crores for setting up a 1,000 MW thermal power plant which commenced commercial operation of the 1st unit in December 2007, with all four units of 250 MW each getting commissioned within a span of nine months. The fuel supply of the plant is met through its captive coal mines. To ensure sustainable and consistent power generation, a 6.9 km conveyer pipeline has been set up for transportation of coal between the company’s captive mines and the plant.
The company has constructed a 258 km. long, 400 KV Double Circuit transmission line from the plant to the PGCIL sub-station at Raipur through which power can be transmitted anywhere in India. For meeting the plant’s consumptive water requirement, an 18 m. high dam over the Kurket River has been built, 25 km. away from the project site. The Tamnar power plant has the distinction of having an operating plant load factor (PLF) of over 95%. The company’s plans for the future are equally ambitious. JPL is expanding its capacity at Tamnar by setting up an additional 2,400 MW thermal power plant at an investment of USD 2.5 bn (Rs 13,410 crore).
