FEBRUARY 2013

iPhone Art

Fort Lauderdale in February retains those cooling ocean breezes

iPhoneography, or mobile photography, is visual art created, edited and produced entirely on iPhone. The device is the common denominator of a growing global network of photographers, artists and individuals who have embraced the limited capabilities and have found enormous common ground artistically. Artists the world over have put aside their bigger cameras to enter this amazing social photography scene.

February is very much the in-season for tourism in our region yet the shoreline can be quite changeable. The gulls are still keen and eager but there’s little fish to be had the annual mullet migrations are all done. Another favorite along the shoreline is the pelican, but they too are a rarer sign at this time of year. From a photography standpoint its time to be inventive and look for different ways to capture the morning light. A great milestone was reached this month as the Twitter account for FtLauderdaleSun reached its 10,000th follower. For a purely photographic account this is indeed auspicious. I have supported the project with other social media outlets (inclding a strong showing at Facebook) but good old fashioned Twitter still remains the heart of my sharing. A N D Y

All tangled up... In January the iPhone app buzz was all around Hipstamatic’s Tintype release. This month the buzz is all around TangledFX which creates a series of painterly effects that are all completely controllable. I’ve been giving it a spin...

Pigment printing processes have been utilized since the middle of the 19th century. Digital inkjet printing has seen a surge in the use of the pigment ink as ink sets have been refined to be compatible with the latest in high-resolution inkjet technology.
