Milkshakes and coffee also available, and you can buy cake mix to recreate their recipes at home. Take away or grab the one table if you’re lucky.

Public Restaurant

-by

Calle del Desengaño, 11

Alex del Toro

It is a place with a carefully chosen decoration and affordable prices. Reservations are not allowed and it is usually crowded, so it is advisable to arrive early and be ready to wait. The best of this restaurant are its prices. The menu from Monday to Friday is 10 euros. It consists of a starter, a main dish and a dessert. You have to go!

This is a good place if you want to spend the night with friends enjoying and chatting with good music and a charming environment (young atmosphere). It has a pizzeria integrated inside, a perfect opportunity to taste their delightful ‘nachos’ & ‘pizzas’. Malasaña is a district to go out at night. there are some bars where you can enjoy good english music (indie/pop) and having a good time looking around the decoration, like the Tupperware bar. there are many people during weekend, it´s better go early if you don´t want to wait to go into these bars. Enjoy it! ;)

Casa Pueblo -by

Calle León, 3

Monika Bereciartu

Four of Madrid’s top bartenders own this unique bar located in Las Letras neighborhood. The care they put into their job, the attention to detail, the excellent music (everything from Jazz, Funk and Soul to “soft” electronic music) and the good vibes of the bar’s regulars will make you feel at home and you will be treated like never before.

Lolina Vintage -by

Nice and quiet 2 floor cafe decorated with 50s and 60s furniture and wallpapers. Perfect for a Sunday morning breakfast (try the homemade cakes) but also for having cocktails with friends at night while listening to 60’s Spanish pop rock on the background. You can also rent the downstairs room for your own “guateque” or private party.

Lola Loba -by

Calle de la Palma, 38

Maite Roso

Usually frequented by university students, this cafe is the perfect place to have something to drink while listening to great music. Decorated with old furniture and faint lights it’s a really cozy place to drink some beers with friends. Nice atmosphere during the week and also perfect for those Saturdays when you don’t feel like partying crazily.

Experiences in Madrid Live Music El Junco -by

Plaza de Santa Barbara, 10

Full experience in: www.trourist.com

Monica Bereciartu

El Junco is the best place in town to listen to good music and dance all night long. You’ll find jazz, blues and funk bands playing live almost every day of the week. When the concerts are finished, djs mix jazzy, funky and brazillian tunes which are the perfect ingredients to create a good atmosphere. That’s junco’s style!!!

La Coquette -by

Calle de las Hileras, 14

Imanol Abad

A very charming bar where there are live concerts almost everyday (most of them, Blues). This place is totally underground. A door, a stairs that goes down and a sort of grotto where there are a bar and three connecting caves. In the first cave there’s the bar, in the second cave there are tables and the stage and from the third cave you can view the stage.

Jazz Bar -by

Calle de Moratín, 35

Jorge Perez

I love the decor of this place! The walls are covered with posters of jazz concerts (not only from the past but also from upcoming events), something to be welcomed by the most nostalgic and fans. It is a very quiet bar to have a drink and chat or read an interesting book … but no doubt, the best are the live performances.

Cafe La Palma -by orge

Perez

Calle de la Palma, 62

Pub on the lively street of La Palma where you can hang out with your friends enjoying live performances – there are concerts of different styles and groups-, or simply having a drink after dinner in the area. A good option for those we love live music.

This nightclub, which is very close to Gran Via, is a very recommendable place for people who love independent music, pop or rock. It opens from 12 pm to 6 am, with different DJs every week and live performances once a month. The club where I take my friends when they visit Madrid.

El perro de la parte de atras del coche -by

Calle de La Puebla 15

Irakusne Incierte

I’ve partied there a loooot of times. This club has never dissapointed me. Good and eclectic music in Malasaña quarter (mixes of dance, electronica, pop…). Although it closes soon (3:30 am) it’s a good place to start dancing.

Freeway Club -by

San Vicente Ferrer, 7

Marta Santos

It is one of the few bars in Malasaña where you can have a drink for six euros. I think it is a good place for the first part of the night (they usually close around three). On the ground floor you can dance and above is more suitable to listen to the good music they play. The atmosphere is kind of indie.

Sala El Sol -by Mikel

Cortés

Calle de los Jardines, 3

By far, one of my favorite clubs in Madrid. During the 80s when “la movida madrileña” was really “in” this club was a referent. I’ve been to many shows and great bands usually go there. At weekends Djs mix jazzy and funky tunes till late in the morning. The cover to get in costs about 9€

Experiences in Madrid Find out where to spend your € Fuencarral Market -by

Fuencarral, 45

Mercedes González

Full experience in: www.trourist.com

A unique mall for moderns, heavys, indies, people who like militar stuff, gotics.. With a hairdresser, tatoo parlour, coffe shop in a mini 3 floor mall. The shops don’t have doors so they all share the same music (such as Kaiser Chiefs and Franz Ferdinand) and create an enviroment that you can’t find in many malls in Spain.

Located in the center of the neighborhood of Malasaña, Lotta. Vintage is one of the best known second hand shop in Madrid. Vintage clothes and accessories starting from the 50s. They also have great services such as styling lessons and renting clothes. Don’t forget to check out the jewellery section.

Tips by a local trourist

Marta Vázquez trourist

Madrid is a city with so much to offer that you don’t want to miss even a single corner. If you visit during the summer, you have tons of things to do, without the hassle normally encountered the rest of the year. For starters, there’s a rendezvous through one of the city’s best routes for tapas. A perfect way to beat the heat is to head down to La Latina where you’ll find Madrid’s true pulse in any of its fascinating niches. Once there, look for a street called La Cava Baja and drop in to any one of the local pubs and have a nice wine, sangria or ice cold beer. My personal nod goes to La Txacolina, but any will do. Another route that I highly recommend, to get the feeling of really breathing and living Madrid, is the Atocha-Retiro-Puerta de Alcala-Cibeles stretch, concluding on Gran Via (Broad-way, in Spanish), the unofficial heart of Madrid, one whose beat never stops and is never empty. One of my favorites routes, for sure. And if you still have some tiger in your tank, cross over to Chueca where you’ll find some of the coolest, modern bars in the whole city. Just getting together in Chueca, you’ll soon see is worth the effort of getting there. This neighborhood is a stone’s throw from Malasaña, one of the more emblematic parts of the city, ever since the days of the “Movida Madrileña· back in the eighties when twentyyear-old Pedro Almodovar and his gang used to cruise this scene till the wee hours of the night. Hitting some of the bars here will show you why. Last but not least on the list, is El Rastro, the Sunday flea market. Long, winding, diverse, and daunting, it can be a challenge especially during the summer months with the sun beating down on you. If that’s the case, take a reprieve and shoot over to Huertas for a few cold brews. And speaking of Huertas, there’s a restaurant here where you’ll find the best Galician-style octopus in all the city. The restaurant’s called Maceiras, and if you can hold off till midnight, you’ll be witness to a queimada prepared live and up close, with Galician magical incantations included. When it comes to Madrid, I could go on for hours … but, better still, why don’t you come and see for yourself, living memorable moments personally and getting to know the local folk on your own. 8
