The Container Bar Closing
The beloved Rainey Street, a local bar district downtown comprised of many renovated bungalows turned into bars, food truck areas, and dance halls is on track for some high-rise changes.
First up is the plan for the development of The Modern Austin Residences on 90 Rainey St coming after March 2022. According to their Instagram (@themodernaustin), sales and construction of the condo-tower to commence early 2022. With the new construction of this massive residential high-rise, a bar that has been with Rainey Street since March of 2014 will be closing permanently to make room.

On a normal night out on Rainey street, you and your group of friends might wander into an interesting shaped bar made of containers with a live DJ and plenty of room for dancing.
The Container Bar is a large capacity open-space bar serving refreshing patio-sipper type cocktails and other normal bar drinks. The open patio design of the bar makes it the perfect place to enjoy the weather while socializing. There’s even a closed container space dedicated to people who wish to have some indoor time or avoid the high winds we have been experiencing lately.
The bar is decorated and designed with an urban outdoor style in mind featuring cool graffiti on the walls near the DJ booth. The casual vibe and lights at night make it the perfect place to hang. You may not spend your entire night at the Container Bar but you will definitely stop by at some point and have a few drinks.
With the pending closure at the end of March, there will be a closing party planned to celebrate the bar and its many supporters over the years. The owners, Bridget Dunlap and Chris Parker want to dedicate one final night to show their appreciation for their very loyal patrons.
Follow the Container Bar on Instagram (@containerbar_atx) for the latest information on any events related to closing and the upcoming SXSW. They also host monthly silent discos with the last two on February 13th and March 6th.
All that being said, everyone knows the Container Bar and it will be missed as a staple on Rainey Street. But not to worry, they will have a club space in the basement of the new residential building called Lustre Portland. Stay tuned for more DunlapATX developments.
