Town festivals Among the joys of country living are the community fairs and festivals that enliven the streets of the small villages and hamlets in our area. Here are a few of the celebrations you can join in throughout the summer season. Not all had been scheduled as of press time; we provide contact information for updates.
June Sunday, June 7, 12 noon to 3 p.m. — Tractor Parade, Callicoon, NY. Just what it sounds like: a parade of dozens of tractors of all vintages and sizes, an annual delight for children of all ages. You can start the day with a community breakfast at the fire department, and finish up with a chicken barbeque at the Delaware Youth Center. Info: liaison@ delawareyouthcenter.org.

Saturday, June 20 —Roots & Rhythm Music & Arts Festival, Honesdale, PA. Picturesque downtown Honesdale is filled with music all day long, in the park, on the street and hosted by some businesses. The festival celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. Info: www. honesdalerootsandrhythm.com.
Saturday, June 13, 1 p.m. — Trout Parade, Livingston Manor, NY. Local community groups, businesses and individuals are invited to dress up in finned and fishy guise, make floats, or march in bands to celebrate the mighty trout, that denizen of the renowned coldwater fishery that brings anglers to this area from all over the world. The fourth of July parade steps out in the afternoon, with fire trucks, floats and community marchers. Saturday, July 11, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Art Walk/Chalk Walk. Livingston Manor, NY, sponsored by the Catskill Art Society. There’s art in the shop windows, art in the stores and art on the sidewalks, all guided by a printed map. Info: livingstonmanor.org.

In keeping with the theme, there will be hayrides and animals in addition to vendors and artisans lining the streets of Callicoon with merchandise, crafts and food. Enjoy the country entertainment while strolling the historic streets, viewing the architecture, much of which dates back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and admiring views of the Delaware River. Sunday, July 26 — Riverfest, Narrowsburg, NY. Sunday, July 26 — This festival celebrates the art and natural beauty of the Upper Delaware River. Typically kicked off by a “River Dogs on Parade” event, featuring our furry friends in costume, the event features craft and food vendors, live music, stiltwalkers and other entertainment, and is highlighted by a live auction of specially created posters at midday. It takes place on Main Street, where an observation deck with viewing scope (the better with which to see the local eagles) allows a panoramic view over the Big Eddy.
