metalsmithing 2014
I find inspiration everywhere: art, design, people, nature, research, adventure. Jewelry design + manufacturing is my creative outlet. I earned my B.F.A. in Sculpture, working with bronze, iron, steel, wood & stone in a large format. I learned traditional metalsmithing and modern jewelry making techniques as an apprentice under a master craftsman and gemologist. Creating small intimate objects has now captured my creative strengths. I am fortunate to be based in the Columbia Gorge, on the border of Washington and Oregon. I came here via 10 years of wanderlust, and found a place that sustained a balance: connection + solitude, spirituality + secularism, nature + culture. Process drives every piece made at trudesign metalsmithing. In combining time honored, old world techniques & craftsmanship with a contemporary aesthetic, each piece organically evolves from a design created to accentuate balance, originality and timelessness. trudesign metalsmithing is committed to the sustainability of our communities and natural resources. All work is handcrafted our studio in the Columbia River Gorge. We use recycled metals and stones sourced from responsible, fair trade practices. We support selected charities with jewelry donations and put parts of proceeds back in to support local organizations. Thank you for your time and consideration in looking through my work, I hope in these pages you find something special.

Argentium silver is the predominant silver alloy we work with at trudesign metalsmithing. It has some amazing characteristics which I have grown to know and love about this sterling silver alloy. Argentium silver is the result of research by Peter Johns at the School of Art & Design, Middlesex University. In the early 1990’s a project began to research on the effects of germanium additions to silver alloys. Presently the argentium silver alloy we use replaces some of the copper of the traditional sterling alloy with germanium, resulting in a .935-.960 silver alloy. The substitution of germanium was discovered to impart many beneficial properties to sterling silver. There are a few that I find amazingly beneficial to our production: tarnish resistance, firescale elimination, increased ductility. However, my favorite quality is its simple precipitation + heat-hardening properties, which allows for stronger designs

In short, it’s a purer, more tarnish resistant, easier to work with + harder silver alloy. amazing!
thank you!
