About

In His Image Fitness Magazine: Editor: Trudy Beerman www.InHisImageFitness.com Published 4 times per year Unless otherwise indicated, all articles here were written by Trudy Beerman. A Christian publication focusing on Stewardship of the Body to move the Christian to see themselves first in HIS image, the image of God. Christians believe the human body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit, and as such, deserves special attention. There are many health and fitness publications available but few address it from a Biblical perspective. This will be the focus of In His Image Fitness Magazine.

Thank you for grabbing your issue of In His Image Fitness Magazine. It is my intention to load this publication with value and Biblical insight, because the Bible is FULL of practical, relevant success strategies for Christians to live an abundant, vibrant life. Our body is how we experience life on this side of eternity. It is simply a 'tent' if you will, as expressed by Peter in 2 Peter 1:13. In fact, the reason why I write this publication, am the Host of Debt-Free WEALTH Radio, produce loads of video, blog and write books, is expressed best by Peter himself in 2 Peter 1:12-13 "For this reason, I will always remind you about these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you already have. And I consider it right to keep stirring you up with reminders, as long as I am in the tent of this body." (CJB) Our time on earth is temporary, and while here, we should enjoy it to the fullest. At the same time, we need reminders that we should do exactly that - and I feel compelled to remind you every opportunity I can, through every media available to me. Feel free to connect with me, I do look forward to it.

DI Y FITN ESS RESULTS WITHOUT A

PERSONAL

TRAINER

The Bible is a relevant, practical guide to success and even in fitness, the Bible can be your guide to success. There are many benefits to having a Personal Trainer or Fitness Coach, however, with or without one - you are responsible for what happens with your body. Doing it solo, or In between training sessionsthere are things you can do on your own to ensure you make significant progress toward your fitness goals. We are mind, body and spirit and even going DIY - you should put strategies in place at each level. MIND: Your mindset and your thought processes will help or hinder your fitness progress. Romans 12:2 "Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect." (NLT) In other words, work on your mindset. Read your Bible, In His Image Fitness Magazine and similar publications, get into community and find emotional support. Ditch your Stinkin' thinking which takes many of us out of the game before we establish the habits of a healthier lifestyle.

BODY: You gotta move. Deskbound for hours, many of us would hardly get 5000 steps in a day without being deliberate about it. I found this out for myself when I started wearing a Fitbit. Anything less than the recommended minimum of 10K steps a day for a healthy heart according to the American Heart Association, and we are basically sedentary. You have to be deliberate about moving your body. 1 Timothy 4:8 "For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come." (ESV) Even the Bible points out that mindset - or right mind and focus is more important that exercise, but exercise is important. 1 Corinthians 9:27 "But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified." (ESV) We are being observed, and we declare a testimony of our faith through our self discipline. Sorry to say this painful fact but, obesity is a public declaration of failed self-control in the area of fitness & nutrition. If you need ideas on exercises you can do at home or on your own, JOIN MY COMMUNITY and get access to FREE and super affordable DIY tools SPIRIT: The spirit is the ONLY part of us that lives on beyond the body. The spirit is the truest version of ourselves and the one thing we cannot hide from even when we can fool the external world around us. This where faith merges with works and is triggered by MOTIVATION! When your pursuit of fitness and health comes from a place of FAITH LIVED OUT LOUD, then even in our silence, our body shouts to the world about our personal discipline, our love for this temple and our lavish of the best care it deserves. While on the outside it looks no different than the outcome of the self-absorbed, self-worshipper - God knows the heart. Continued on pg 14

Being Transformed in His Image...

Who: Tony C. Davis “Wow, 149/100.” That’s what I said to myself after finally going to the Doctor for a check-up. Like a lot of men I rarely go to the Doctor. Why? “I feel alright.” Needless to say, there are a lot of people right now who feel great but are one heartbeat away from a stroke. Then it happened. I went to the Doctor again and he put me on blood pressure medicine. I was furious….not at the doctor, I was mad at myself. You see, as a pastor I believe God gives us our bodies, not for show and tell but to bring glory to Him. continued on pg 17

THE MIRROR V. THE SCALE

For many of us, there is no harsher critic than the one taking residence in our mind. This is one bully many of us cannot ignore, nor fight and when the enemy is self it may take intervention, therapy and even prayer to re-wire the self-talk. What is crazy is when the image in the mirror and the numbers on a scale create an image in our minds that terrorizes some to take action that can cause massive harm, even death. Bulimia, anorexia, popping tons of over the counter weight management drugs all in the search of a mental picture that has nothing to do with reality. Even if you are not at this extreme end of the spectrum, too many people struggle with an ability to love who they are, as they are. Loving yourself is the best way to trigger actions of love ON yourself. The scale only collects data that is returned in a numeric expression. The number on that scale is just a number - an important number, but just a number. Data to be used to move you closer to your goal. Do not give that number any more power than that. What's more, the scale cannot tell what causes the number to be what it is. A 250 pound body builder, and a 250 pound over weight woman is still 250 to the scale. Continued on page 16

MONETISING YOUR PASSION FOR FITNESS I just did a 5K race recently in Tampa, Florida and hundreds of other particpants did the same. It turns out, the ladies I walked with, do these events often - they LOVE working out! I invited them to connect with me later because there might be an opportunity to turn their passion into money. In fact, ANy hobby, that thing you find yourself doing when you have 'free time'; may be just the thing you need to ramp up to supplement your income. When it comes to fitness, there is truly an opportunity to create an income stream from a fitness passion very affordably. When it comes to making an income from fitness, I have taken two routes, one traditional, and one - not so much. Both earned money, one was a much easier path to the dollars than the other. I was a certified Personal Trainer in Jamaica, (where I was born) in 1994. When I married and moved to live in the USA, I became an ACE certified Personal Trainer, and moved on to even become an Instructor Trainer in aerobics and Medical Exercise for ESA (Exercise Science Alliance - they no longer exist). I had a cute studio and was successful right up to the infamous recession of 2006-2009, during which I lost my studio, and my passion for fitness. Consequently, I allowed all my certifications to lapse. I packed on the pounds and began to hate a lot of things about my life, especially how I looked. After seeking the Lord's

help, I moved into the space of Stewardship because God showed me that was the cause and cure to my situation. Poor stewardship (aka management) was the reason I lost everything, and good stewardship was the way to my future prosperity. As I got my life back on track, my body was next on my agenda. As I lost the weight, the natural result of that was observers asking questions and telling me I was inspiring them. Leadership was calling but I was not prepared to invest the time and effort to obtain the certifications I used to hold. Cost to do something is not always a money problem, for me, this was more a time and distraction problem. I had a business to run and studying for this stuff was intense. I had friends who told me about Beachbody and it seemed they offered me the perfect solution! The credibility of Beachbody behind my passion and enthusiasm for stewardship of the body seemed the perfect way to go. No need to reinvent the wheel. Now I am back in leadership in health and fitness, earning an income and this is by far, the easier path to monetising my passion for fitness for sure. BECOME A BEACHBODY COACH!

DIY Fitness continued from pg 5 1 Samuel 16:7 "But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” The body houses the spirit until the spirit heads to its eternal home (which I hope for you is heaven). God gave specific care instructions for the physical Temple in the Old Testament, and it was built and maintained with the best of the best of the best. Why should we treat the Temple of the Holy Spirit any differently today? #ProfitableStewardship

MIRROR V. SCALE

continued from pg 10

. To answer the question, mirror v. scale, I must confess the mirror has more significance to me than the scale. How I look to myself matters more than how much I weight because I already know that my weight can fluctuate with my next trip to the bathroom, my menstrual cycle or the gallon of water I try to drink each day in the progress toward better health. But the mirror can be deceiving, so I have learned that the most effective measures of my progress are the tape measure readings and my energy level. A sluggish day can be matched back to my nutrition and activity so I monitor my energy level regularly and ask myself, "on a scale of 1-10 where is my enegy?" If I am below a self score of 8, I immediately take action to fix that, first in my mind by powerful self-talk, then through physiological action such as standing taller, breathing exercises, and even going for a brisk . walk outdoors The tape measure is my new friend. The tape measure helps me see tiny changes to my body not visible in the mirror nor on the scale. Fat loss replaced with lean muscle may trade out on the scale but is not missed by the tape measure. A few centimeters here and there combined can mean several inches lost and based on my fitness regimen, that loss is fat NOT lean muscle tissue. Those days are very celebratory let me tell you. It can be hard to measure yourself properly, but it can be done. To ensure I get the same spots each time I use body markers, such as: I wear the same bra and take the measurements for my chest at the nipple line; I use the natural indentation of my waist line for that point, and so on.

EMBRACE THE TAPE!

Being Transformed, continuted from page 9 After being put on medication I went on a serious quest to recover my health. No, I’m not talking about a diet but I’m talking about a physical transformation. Not from the outside in (I looked fit) but I’m talking about from the inside out. As I continued to share the importance of “stewardship of the body” with the church where I serve, I was led to the scriptures. What? 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 "Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." (KJV) 3 John 2 "Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth." (KJV) My testimony is that I lost 16 pounds and a few inches around the waist. My most recent blood pressure was 122/78. At this point I am not taking my BP medicine. I did this without the doctor’s advice. I don’t advise you to do this, Share your story the win win win way always get your Become a BeachBody Coach. doctor’s approval.
